I am using this lens with a Sony Nex-7. This lens is made in China. At first it functioned properly. After a while the auto focus stopped working. The worst scenario is if the problem happens only once in a while. If it happened all the time, one would never use the lens again. In my case the SEL18200LE worked fine 99% of the time. So I kept using it. What you experience is the lens wont focus. You can try to change the zoom, etc., but you wont get the beep or the green box indicating that the focus is locked. You can snap the picture anyway, but when you get back to your computer, youll find the picture is badly blurred. As time went by, this happened more frequently. I called Sony, and they want $166.50 to look at it. After they looked at it cost was $647.63 to fix it! (Aperture Control Assembly was faulty. I am not alone. While researching this issue, I discovered a thread at DPReview in which several people had the same problem with this lens. Come On Sony, if you want to Play with Canon and Nikon, you have to stand behind your products, and fix your mistakes!

I agree with "Dave in Connecticut" who talks about focusing problems. I have had the exact same problem as he describes, while shooting video on a heli-boarding trip. It was *so* frustrating, and I missed so many good shots. Switching to manual focus didnt help either, as the focus gets messed up as I would change the zoom level. In most cases it was so obvious what it needed to focus on. What a dissapointment!
