This lens is a performer. I have never shot the sony 1.4 but I dont feel like there could be $700 of improvement in this lens.
At first I was skeptical about buying but I knew I wanted a 35mm F1.4 for my Sony A7R3. After long research I figured this would be the best most economical option and let me say I was wrong.. This lens performs TOP NOTCH... It works very fast (not as fast as SONY GM lenses) but if you change the reactive settings on your Sony camera itll make a difference. This lens is on my camera 70% of the time when Im shooting events. I am now spoiled with the F1.4 aperture. I refuse to purchase any F4.0 lenses.. This is a wonderful buy. I definitely recommend.
I absolutely love this lens. The quality of the materials are top notch and it’s ability to autofocus as a third party lens is on par with the Sony lenses. The only criticism I have is that this lens is large. If you’re looking for a workhorse lens this is for you but if you’re wanting a walk around lens I might suggest the Zeiss 35mm 2.8.
