After trying several Canon and Tamron lens, I kept this one. We were on vacation in New Mexico, and the lens I just bought previously, a Tamron 35 was just too limited. I watched reviews on YouTube ordered this from our rental. It arrived in 2 days, Abes from Maine to New Mexico, thank you Abe and Amazon and worked perfectly for videos and stills for the remainder of our trip. Been doing pro photography for 40 years. Love the weight and mostly the quality. Pairs nicely with my new Canon 80D. The 17 to 50 with 2.8 is perfect. Stop shopping around and get this high quality, fantastic build, WITH lens shade, for your camera. It will help make you a better photographer because you will have better pictures, like me!

This lens is a great product. Specially if you are just an enthusiast looking for a fast lens and not wanting to pay for professional grade glass. f2.8 is awesome (nice bokeh). The only star Im taking of is that the auto focus is REALLY noisy. I normally take video and edit them to have music, so it doesnt affect me, but if I need to record dialogue in a moving subject, the awesome dual auto focus on my Canon SL2, with this lens, results in an awful continuous clicking sound. Yes, Im aware this isnt a video lens, its not like the Canons new STM lenses (and its even louder than the USM ones), but its noisy. Unfortunately. Besides that, its the best lest to upgrade and start playing with photography and videography.

I went back and forth between this lens and the Canon 17-55mm f2.8. I ultimately chose this one. It does lose 5mm on the Tele end, but for the price difference I am happy to sold those few millimeters off. Like most lenses it is at the sharpest in the middle of the aperture range, but f2.8 is no slouch and is great for low light. The fact the f2.8 is constant throughout the focal range makes it even better. Focusing is fast and audible noise from the lens is low. The optical stabilization is fantastic and adds to the usefulness of the lens. Is there better lenses out there? Maybe, probably, but not for this price point and for that I give it 5 stars.

Got this lens for portrait work. Is very shaper and fast focusing. Downside is it is very loud when used for video. All of Sigmas older lenses have this problem. Great overall lens, big improvement over the kit 18-55mm lens.

I bought this lens specifically for shooting portraits with my Canon 7d Mark II. I did some Macro test shots on my patio to see what this lens was capable of at 50mm Wide Open f2.8. Viewing the images that I took in Lightroom revealed that this lens is Razor Sharp. I could not tell the difference from this lens and any of my Canon lenses. The following is the list of Canon lenses that I own. 17-40mm f4 L, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.8, 70-300 f4-5.6 L and 100-400mm f4-5.6 Mark II L. In real world shooting situations, if you do your part, this lens will do its part and you wont be disappointed. This lens is the Best Value you will find anywhere from anyone.

Everything about this works great! Stabilizer is fantastic, the zoom range, and the included hood. My only complaint is that the focus mechanics are really noisy. If I was just shooting photos, this wouldnt be a big deal, but Im also shooting pro video, and I cant have that little bit of noise in the background. Id also say that the furthest zoom is not quite 50mm. I have a Canon 50mm prime, and that prime is zoomed just a tad farther, so Ill still keep my 50mm prime handy just in case I need a little more range. Last detail is that it has some weight to it, which is nice, but it also means I have to add more counterweights to my steadicam rig I use, but this is definitely becoming my new favorite lens!

I really love this lens as a way to dive into photography. Its a moderately lightweight to travel with. The auto focus works generally well in well-light environments, but suffers in darker settings. The colors dont really pop with this lens but if you shoot raw you can extract them no problem. The edges arent the smoothest, however not noticeable when viewing the photos as a whole. Overall I enjoy using this lens very much.

I dont have enough words to express my love for this lens. The quality is what I expect from sigma. It is a bit heavy, but well made. The focus is amazing and spot-on. Well worth every penny spent!

I was so excited because I was finally going to get a camera that makes the background super blurry, so the pictures would look a lot nicer. I mean, the background is a little blurry but not as much as I hoped.... I noticed that this lens can take crazy wide shots, which I really really like. You could be up close to someone taking a picture, but if you zoom out, all of a sudden you get the entire room in the picture, yet youre not even far away to get the entire room. I dont even know how its possible but its crazy awesome!! I do recommend, just wish the background was more blurry.

This lens is tack sharp wide open compared to my older more expensive Canon 17-40 f4L. The image stabilization really helps in low light situations. Im giving the autofocus 3 stars only because it is not full time. If you set the lens to autofocus you cannot make focal adjustments like the more expensive lenses, which is probably a reason this lens is priced relatively low. All in all this is a great replacement to the dreadful slow aperture kit lens.
