I liked the idea of posting objective photos of how the lens performs out of the box, so Im including a JPEG of a brick wall shot on my Sony a7Sii with settings at f8, 1/1600, ISO12800. I focused with the manual focus assist feature on the camera. You decide if itll meet your needs. Yes, there is obvious distortion. I was thankful that my copy doesnt seem to blur the corners as much as some other copies. It does seem to blur a bit more at the corners when Im further away from the subject. And since others have stated that the amount of blur can change with time, I wonder if the lens will be durable enough for the hikes Im going to subject it to. But, for me, at a fifth the cost of many other lenses, this was well worth the money. I intend to use it for astro landscapes and travel. Will post updates if any significant changes occur.

Great lens. Im using it on a Sony A7 mark II. I bought the native E mount after trying to decide whether to get the EF mount one and adapt it, or just go native. I considered the EF because I thought it would probably have better resale value with all the Canon cameras out there. Since this is the first time Ive bought such an off-brand lens (ie: not Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, etc.) I wanted to make sure any issues were the lens itself and not because it was adapted. Especially since adapters can have a problem hitting infinity focus with super wide lenses. Its nice and sharp and a great lens to shoot with. I normally use Canon FD lenses adapted to the A7, so manual focus is not a big deal to me. Neither is manual aperture control. If you just want a mount and forget lens though, with auto everything, this is for sure not the lens for you. If you want a quality lens and arent afraid to go manual, buy this now. The only issue is the weird distortion it has which shows up in some shots, depending on the subject. You can use the Samyang lens profile for a Canon camera in Adobe Camera Raw to get rid of it though. Kind of a pain, but not needed for most shots. All in all a really good lens. Its much sharper on the edges and corners than my FD17mm f4.0 that I paid a little more for. So what are you waiting for. Its super wide, nice and sharp, and cheap. Go ahead. Buy it.

So far a pretty sharp lens for the money, good value as Im on a budget when it comes to lenses, only other thing I could find for my Sony A7 in this wide angle range and 2.8 or faster f-stop would cost me upwards of $500 to $1,200 and right now thats out of my price range, so this fits the bill. I replaced an older Tamron 17mm with this lens, Ive always liked Tamron and think of them as a good quality lens maker, however in comparing the quality of the two lenses I think this one is slightly sharper. If I were making money with photography I would spend the $1,200 on a dedicated Sony lens, however this is a great lens for the hobbyist, and in some situations I would bet professional use. Its fully manual, probably not as sharp as the higher end lenses, and not small, but for the price you get a really good value.

Ive had this now for six months, like another review said Ive taken my most complimented work with this lens & an A7Rii body. I even use the photo for my correspondence. The question is why is a lens that cost literally a fraction of the other high quality lenes so inexpensive and the others so costly..? For me this is THE landscape lens. Sometimes a little too wide, hardly ever too narrow. It creates beautiful images.

Bought this lens a couple years ago when I first upgraded to a full frame Sony. Upon first inspection, the camera had AWFUL smearing in the corners, nothing was in focus except dead center of the lens. Went back and forth with customer service, who was great and helpful, got the lens replaced over the course of a couple months. When I received a replacement, the lens seemed great. Or at least leaps and bounds better than it was. Now, two years later, I havent used this lens hardly at all since Ive had it, but just recently picked it back up for some real estate photography. BIG mistake. Im not sure if I just didnt realize that the lens was just as bad, or if it has gotten worse since Ive had it, or if my eyes have gotten better since, but the entire image is now soft. Nothing is in focus, awful, awful smearing on the entire left side of the image. As others have said, you either need to deal with the hassle to get a few copies replaced, or you just throw it away. I wouldnt even give this lens to somebody for free. Its that bad. Save your money and put it toward something else.

This lens is amazing for astro, landscape, and even architecture with the right program to correct the crazy distortion. The very first copy I received was decentered and I returned it to receive a perfect copy of this lens. I used it for about a year, but very sparingly (mostly due to its huge size and weight). I recently noticed that its become softer in the corners and decentered. Check out how much worse the coma on the right side of the astro photo I attached is. I will add that I am probably at fault for this lenses rapid degradation, as I am really hard on my gear. Specifically, Ive definitely dropped this lens and had it bounce a good 10 feet down a mountain side. I also trail run with it in my bag almost every time it goes out with me. That being said, I will add that so far none of my other lenses have experienced malfunctioning in spite of similar abuse. If you arent hard on your gear, this may be the lens for you, but I am in the market for a higher quality ultra wide.

I shoot the Milky Way a lot and this lens is clear, sharp, and has great color saturation. I edit in Capture One and use the Zeiss 12mm 2.8 lens correction. Otherwise the distortion is very noticeable. It is has a very fat lens hood which does not come off so it is hard to stow in your pocket if you change lenses. But the focus and aperture control rings are smooth and the infinity focus is right on the money.

Purchased for my A7r and this lens is simply incredible. I do commercial photography and have experience shooting everything from Canons to PhaseOne. have used so many different camera and lenses and the sharpness of this lens is unreal for the price. You wont be able to find anything under a thousand at this focal length that offers anything similar in clarity and color. I use CaptureOne and Lightroom and what sucks is there are no profiles, but it really doesnt need much adjustment. Yes there is some distortion, but CA is minimal with little to no noticeable fringing.

For the price, this lens cannot be beat. I do real estate photography and this lens is the best bang for your buck if you need to get that wide angle view of the interior of a home or an outdoor shot of a neighborhood/landscape. Yes, all of the reviews here are true and this lens will more than likely arrive in your hands with a focusing issue. You will have to spend some time playing around, shooting some test shots and reviewing in post to determine where true infinity is and then youre all set. With a little perspective correction during post-processing, you can get rid of the slight barrel distortion pretty easily. Tack sharp once you figure out the issue with focus. Thats the only reason I gave this lens 4 stars but I knew what I was getting into when I purchased this. Highly recommended if you can afford a little patience to figure it out. Once you do, you wont be disappointed with the results.

Better sharpness than youd expect from an inexpensive 14mm - Rokinon-Samyang is definitely making some great stuff, lately. 2.8 aperture is a bit smeary in the very corners but still usable - F4 and smaller aperture produces very nice results. Ive done a fair bit of night sky star photography with this and the results are excellent. Good color and pop, too! Not the best for architecture with some mustache distortion -- be sure to find the best correction profile online for use with Lightroom and you minimize that considerably. Just be sure you get a good sample, theres some variation out there. Compare left and right off-center and edge clarity at all apertures to be sure yours isnt a dud. Ive been fortunate, both of the ones Ive owned have been very solid.
