Cool lens, has pretty good quality images but it makes noise when focusing. Not an issue when Im shooting portraits but if youre going to shoot video it might not be the best option.
Since I had read such great reviews about this lens, I HAD to get one for my portrait photography! And I must say, it is AMAZING! I am still in 2 minds whether to return it back and get the sigma 35mm f1.4 ART or not. But I am pretty sure it isn’t going to be that much different from it as all the specifics match to the T! I highly recommend this definitely for a hobbyist, also for pro photographers! If you don’t care THAT much about auto focus taking a slightly longer time than a native Sony lens, then you should be ok!
For the money, I have no complaints with this lens. I am using it on the newer A7Riii, which does have improved focusing, especially in low light, compared to older versions of the A series cameras, so keep that in mind with my review. Some others have complained about focus speed, but its very snappy for me, maybe a few ms behind native Sony primes, but very quick. Sharpness is good, and really great around the center, even wide open. Sharpness really shines around f/2-2.8. Bokeh isnt as nice as some Zeiss/Sony options, but its not bad looking either. I will likely pick up the new Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 and compare it to this when it comes out and end up keeping one. For now, Id definitely recommend the Rokinon over the Zeiss 1.4 given its documented decentering issues.
Excellent lens! Image quality is nearly indistinguishable from my Sigma art 35mm 1.4 a except the bokeh balls on the Rokinon are more uniformly round. It does make some noise when focusing.
I have been looking for a 35mm F/1.4 for a Long time and finally made my mind to get this Rokinon. Absolutely amazing. Autofocus is beyond expectation and image quality is phenomenal!

Low aperture is great for low light
It takes excellent pictures and the autofocus works great. The only downside is the lens is very big.
great for the price. Autofocus is a bit noisy in low light but still very good lens compare to Sigma 35mm f1.4 that is super expensive.
First off I would like to say I spent months researching and comparing multiple lenses before pulling the trigger on this lens. I primarily do street/car photography and this was a highly desirable focal length for me. After almost a month of shooting with this lens I regrettably decided to return it. These are some pros and cons I was able to come up with. Pros: - Price - F/1.4 - Good build quality - Sharp center photos Cons: - Slight Vignetting - Chromatic Abberation is apparent - Corners are soft - Bokeh is weak - Slight focusing issues when shooting in low light. - Color has a stronger amber finish (Could be a pro for some) - Noisy when shooting any kind of video, not to the point where it affects the sound quality but very noticeable. My biggest gripe with this lens was the inconsistencies. Sometimes it was very sharp and other times it just didnt do well in low light situations. There were focusing issues and shooting any type of video was painful. Corners were always soft. The biggest asset to any prime is the ability to step it down to say f/1.4 and get that sweet bokeh. However if the lens doesnt perform well for the intended perks it makes it difficult to justify the purchase no matter the price point. Im hoping this review helps others that were also on the fence when comparing lenses. Who knows if this was a bad copy or if this was a common issue but my Sony 85mm f/1.8 has never let me down for 1/3 of the price. The color and bokeh on that lens is top notch and has made me realize the importance of sticking with native lenses.
