I rented this lens for a vacation to Moab and quickly knew it was one I wanted to own. I read many reviews and it didnt disappoint. Theres very little distortion compared to other wide angle lenses and Im super pleased with my photos.

Great Nikon quality. Amazing lens for taking in the scene in close quarters. Noticeable fisheye effect at 14mm setting, but this is to be expected. Pop it to 24mm and the effect is pretty much gone. Crisp images. Everything right. Expensive and worth every penny! Of course, know what you’re getting into when you buy a lens this wide. If you like going wide as much as I do, this puppy won’t let you down!

Update: upgraded my camera to the Nikon D810. Coupled with this makes a fantastic setup! Try closeups with dramatic wide background. Update: For those looking for a filter system search for Lee SW150. Currently I am using this with a D300s. I wanted a good wide angle lens and figured Id also invest in the future when I upgrade to a newer full frame body. Anyone who invests in this end of the spectrum knows photography is more user then equipment. The lens does what it is supposed to do: take in a wide angle view with crystal clear glass that will last a lifetime. While features like autofocus and filter rings are useful a good photographer not only does not rely on them but rarely uses them. Many things can affect the AF mechanism. A good photographer relies on his own eyes. Having said that, AF does actually work really well most of the time if you want to use it. A few notes on focus or capturing detail. While this boats a fast f/2.8 that is not what you generally use for landscape or if you want everything in focus. Wide open is for shallow depth of field or the closeup that fills the frame entirely (some prefer to use the term Bokeh). Think of those flower shots where the only thing you "see" is the flower. Landscape shots where all or most of the detail is in focus and clear requires a narrow f stop of at least f 22 which of course slows down the shutter speed and in correct lighting requires a tripod. This lens works correctly. This is an excellent lens and does what it was intended to do.

This completes the holy trinity for me. I have had 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 f4 for long. I was wondering whether I should get this for my trip or not. I relented and decided to get one for myself. It seems to be a good decision as I came very impressed with this lens. I have both Nikon D810 and D90 bodies but I had been using D90 + Tokina 11-16 for nature and anything ulta-wide. I like Tokina but mine is a DX lens and it doesnt do justice to the D810. I took a plunge and I am very happy with the results. The images are sharp and the colors (see the attachment) are amazing. I am very happy with the results.

This lense is a beast. It is heavy, over 2lbs, cant take filter (without expensive, exotic filter kit). No surprises, just amazement in what 14mm at f2.8 can do. The the field of view is so wide, it has to be seen to for you to understand. I tried the 16-35 f4 it was a great fast lense and sharp too, I just did not like the 16mm distortion that it created, so I jumped into the river and bought the 14-24 f2.8G. The front bulb is quite scary since it protrudes out when you zoom in. This lense is sure to be a classic, and one of the most sought after wide-angles one can have on a full frame Nikon. The linear distortion is easily correctable with like Dx0. So much fun, now I want to travel so I can get those great wide-shots that I couldnt do with my 17-35 f2.8D. Everyone should consider this lense, it replaces 14mm, 16mm, 24mm, that alone makes it a deal. It is heavy, and best mounted to a D700 with MB-10, or D3 and the like. Why didnt I buy it sooner? You will ask yourself that question, once you own this lense.

This Lens has always been a dream to have and go with my 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 and now I can say that my trinity lenses is complete with this 14-24 f2.8. Dont believe the few negative reviews about this lens. This lens is a must have and the only regret I have is that I didnt buy this lens sooner. The lens focuses fast and picture quality is sharp. You can buy filters if you uses the WonderPana 66 FreeArc Essentials 0.6SE Kit - Rotating Filter System Holder, Lens Cap, 6.6"x8.5" 0.6 (2-Stop) Soft Edge Graduated Neutral Density (Grad ND) and 145mm Circular Polarizer (CPL) Filters for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens for cost of just over $500.00. I use this lens for landscape and Real Estate Photography and other general shooting.

I am biased for ultra wide lenses, I was used to a $400 10-20mm Sigma on a crop camera. I upgraded to a nikon d800 and with this lens, i.am.in.love. The images pop almost like a prime lens, not in terms of DOF but the quality of the image, CA, distortion, sharpness corner to corner are impressive -and at this cost it should be-. To me it was between the combo of a Canon Prime 24mm paired with a MarkIII vs D800 paired with this lens. They do come close but the MP on the d800 paired with the freedom of this zoom lens where sharpness behaves like a prime, i was sold. Only drawback is not having a filter big enough for this, they sell an adapter ($150) for the 145mm filters, but those items are huge. I am not quite sold on the gel filter holders, I may give it a try. This lens is an amazing piece of glass in itself, heavy, sturdy, well built, the dials are smooth.

...And on the seventh day the Nikon engineers did say, "Screw it! Lets tap the last of that pony keg and see what we cook up!" And born from that day was this lens. If you like to shoot wide it doesnt get much sharper than this monster. Youll get some warping either way but even at 14mm wide open the distortion is surprisingly minimal. The main problems with this beast are, as usual with Nikon lenses, it weighs a LOT. The body structure is steel which is great but beyond that it is very front heavy so be sure your tripod can handle it. Secondly the forward lens element bulges out at 14mm and extra care needs to be taken to ensure it doesnt get damaged. It bulges out from the integrated hood so extra care really needs to be taken.

I have rented this lens many times over the years and love it. Now I own it. Amazon had it on a good sale and I had it sent to me using the locker technique for safety. Worked flawlessly. Love my new lens and very happy I could send it safely. Use the local locker for expensive, delicate items. It worked great for me.

Ive been shooting with this lens for about a year now. Its still the lens that I "go to" most often. Its useful in all sorts of situations -- landscapes of course, but also anything indoors, architecture, museums, aquariums, cathedrals, and events as well. The quality is very sharp and contrasty as you probably have already heard :) The only complaint is that its quite big/heavy and the lens bulges out like a sphere. Its smaller than the 24-70mm f/2.8G though and it fits well on a full-frame Nikon. I dont use a filter, but I think there are some custom filter systems out there. So, this is a lens you have to be really careful with. But its a whole lot of fun. Expect a lot of wow factor. One more thing -- theres a learning curve to shooting wide. Check out some photos on Flickr to learn. You have to get CLOSER and remember to find both a foreground and background.
