I was waiting for this lens long time and finally got it and just love it from first photo! Great service from the store!

What a great lens. So far, Ive used it for landscape, general walk around (during hikes), studio portrait work, and on location portrait work. As a landscape lens, this lens is extremely sharp at f8. If this is the only lens that I have and I need a wider field of view, I usually can get a way with making a panorama. Love taking night sky shots with it. Great as a general purpose walk around lens because of its light weight. Studio work is still nice because this lens is very sharp at f1.8- f16. On-location/Environmental portrait work is where this lens shines! I find myself shooting at 1.4 a lot more now since I am comfortable and familiar with the lens. Ive tried the sigma 50mm art and that was a pretty great lens (more versatile than the 58mm), but the 58mm will bring life to your portraits. Here are sample images at 1.4 (child only) and 2.0 (mother and child). Brandon Charles photography

This lens will never nail the focus for me like its cousin, the 85mm. Tried calibrating the focus according to the chart, brought it my local Nikon service and they send it to Nikon for adjusting, but still the same. The weird thing is that it does a lot better on my D7000 than the D810, but then its not a 58mm anymore. Im puzzled and frustrated, if I have to shoot over F2 then why not just use the 24-70 zoom.

This lens is so expensive comparing to ones that look quite similar in both focal length and aperture, but it simply stunned me and I cannot love it more. And of course it is worth every penny. As a example, even though I already own the Micro Nikkor 105mm, for close static portraits (which normally should be the advantage of that one), I still just cannot resist this 58mm prime, as long as the additional merits of the former is not too much of a necessity. While on the other hand, the 58mm focal length is so sweet that I find it also strong and versatile for scenery photography where normally people might tend to choose a lens of wider angle. Not to mention its way stronger when compared to my zoom lens Nikkor 24-120 in the middle of its range, which you may know is also a quite good one. Simply impressed.

I have a crop frame camera (D7000), and really love the 85mm portrait lens on full frame cameras. However, because of the crop factor, 50mm was too wide and 85mm was too zoomed in to get that ideal portrait length. 58mm is 87mm on a crop, and with a nice f/1.4 aperture to boot, this was right up my alley. I looked at the other 55mm 1.4s, but they werent autofocus, or much more expensive than this one. Colors, bokeh, etc are great, and sharpness is really great - lets be real. Im not printing 11x17s for everything, nor am I really super zooming in on shots in post either; the lens makes sharp, beautifully rendered photos for all of my use. Now you might be saying, "Why did you buy this lens and not use it on a full frame camera?" I dont really have an answer for that other than, I like my body, and was only looking to upgrade my lens. Maybe someday Ill upgrade my body, but then Ill have to actually buy the 85 f/1.4, and hopefully Sigmas ART lineup has an 85mm in it for even sharper photos!

WOW ! The price of this lens scared me ... and I have a 50 mm. But YOU NEED THIS LENS! What creamy dreamy shooting power it offers. Worth every penny.

This is a wonderful lens for portraits so now I carry two cameras for portraits, one with this and the other with the 24mm 1.4.

This lens is defective. I’ve tried calibrating it myself and even took it to a shop to be calibrated and it’s only sharp on two apertures. I’ll be sending it to Nikon to have it fixed and by that time, I could have just bought a new lens for the same amount. Thanks for nothing!
