I purchased this lens when I bought the new D610 Nikon FX format camera. I had 3 reasons for doing so: 1) This mid-range zoom will cover most, "Grab the camera and go!" situations. 2) When bought with the camera as a package, it was $300 off. 3) It uses 77mm filters, which is the same size as all of my other Nikon AF-S lenses. I also like the constant f-4 aperture. I have only taken a few dozen photos, so far, and they are consistent with every other Nikkor lens I own. Its a chunky lens - but I have big hands, so thats not an issue. The auto focus is very fast and quiet. If you shoot with a DX format camera this lens will be an effective 36mm - 180mm f-4, so I can use it on both my D7100 and D300s. The vibration reduction (VR) is amazing! If you shoot in low light, the VR will allow you to shoot handheld at a 3 stop slower shutter speed than the normal 1/focal length rule. In other words, if I am shooting at 120mm focal length, without the VR, I should be using a shutter speed of 1/120th of a second or faster. With the VR, I can easily shoot at 1/30th or 1/15th shutter speeds. The autofocus works in both an AF mode and in AF/M mode. This means you can override the AF by just using the focus ring on the lens. Ill update this review in the near future after Ive made a couple hundred images with it.

I love this lens! Ive tried almost every focal length range available, and THIS is the lens Ive chosen to leave on my camera 99% of the time. Its so good that I find myself using my 70-200mm F2.8 much less often than before because this 24-120mm gives me beautifully blurred backgrounds. But Im not giving up my 70-200mm VRII just yet. It produces superior photos, but it cant beat the versatility of the 24-120mm. I cant count the number of times Ive wished I could zoom wider than 70mm when my subject is suddenly close to me. Actually, just the other day I had the 70-200mm on my D600 and the 24-120mm on a D810, both around my neck. Thats my ideal combo. When I was trying to decide between this and the 28-300mm, the constant F4 won me out, and after shooting with this lens for 22 months, Im very glad I chose this lens. If I want more background blur, I go to my 85mm F1.4. I also own the original and 2nd versions of Nikons 24-120mm, and while I was a huge fan of both, this one is by far the best! What about the 24-70mm some might ask. Well, 70mm was too short when I was shooting with a D300, and now that I shoot full frame, theres no way I would be happy with 70mm as my long end. Plus, I absolutely love VR and cannot do without it, especially for video. Im sure thats an awesome lens for many, but its not my cup of tea.

This is a very useful and practical lens. A whole lot of photographs are made within this range. Everything from a moderate wide angle to a short tele. I was a little skeptical at first because of the 5x zoom range, but was immediately impressed with the results. I have owned both Nikon and Canons 24-70 f/2.8 lenses in several different iterations, and have found that although these lenses are extraordinarily sharp, the 24-120 is more useful in its versatility. The VR more than makes up for the shorter zooms one stop greater aperture. The 24-120 does not have as good as bokeh as the 24-70s, but the slightly increased depth of field of the f/4.0 can help in difficult to focus low light situations. I use this lens on a Nikon D810, which definitely shows the ood and bad qualities of lenses.

Recently moved to primarily shooting with a Nikon D3 and bought this lens brand new from warehouse deals for under $500 hundred bucks. Lens is well built and a very solid performer, optics in a word are spectacular Ive shot with plenty of lens, wide angle, tele zooms, mid-range zooms and primes at all apertures this lens is very versatile it even has excellent bokeh for photographs, colors are accurate and focus is spot on. My previously favorite lens was the 17-35 2.8 for its wide angle and ability to shoot everything inside and out, I now prefer the 24-120 for its wide range and image quality. I shoot stock photography and this lens will serve me well for many, many years.

Outstanding lens, recently did a shoot in Boston on Newbury Street, the photos came out amazing. The only thing you dont get is that bokeh that so many people want, however it can be easily added in to photos if you need that using plugins with Photoshop. However, at f/4G nobody should be expecting that superior bokeh, therefore I dont feel it is fair to knock the lens due to this. If you need a lens for event photographer or street photography then this is ideal. It also is very good in low light. The images pop as well, colors are always bright, I shoot with a D610 and work as a freelance photographer. Finally this Lens has the Nano coating which I highly recommend to anyone buying Nikon lenses. The trick is to be sure to get a filter that is also Nano, some may argue that point, but I find that it is very important and makes sure your images are on point.

Great lens for the price. Although shooting wide open the vignetting is clearly obvious. Nothing that cant be fixed in post. The VR is great. This lens is very good as an all around do everything type of lens. It saves space in my bag where I dont have to carry the 24-70 and the 70-200. This falls right there in the middle. I would have giving it 5 stars except for the vignetiing

Sold my Nikon 28-300mm VRII AF-S to help fund this lens. This lens with a constant f/4 is remarkable. There are many reviews out there on both lenses and each has its advantages. For me sharpness is more important than "Super Zoom" capability. This lens is definitely sharper...my opinion with many, many test shots. I highly recommend this lens. Its perfect with my Nikon D600.

Every lens has some sort of compromise, especially in the zoom range. However, I am happy to report that this is one of the better zoom lens from Nikon! It is extremely sharp (even wide open) with excellent contrast and has a very useful zoom range to boot! I debated between the 24-70mm and this lens. The picture quality to my eyes is virtually equal other than the difference of one aperture stop. Im sure the 24-70mm owners will disagree with this, but that is my finding. The biggest pro for the 24-70mm is the extra 1 stop of light, slightly quicker autofocus speed, and of course the corresponding softer bokeh due to the 1 stop aperture opening. However, the cons are numerous: its heavier, has a shorter focal range, is more expensive, and has no VR. The first and last cons is what pushes over to the 24-120mm side, but the extra focal range and $500 less is nothing to sneeze at. When I take pictures with low light at 1/30 with rear-curtain flash sync, the VR is a godsend. There are absolute uses for VR beyond shaky hands! When taking landscape pictures, I stop the lens down to 8-11 and I cannot tell the difference between this and the 24-70mm. Furthermore, I use primes when I need the wider aperture. The biggest issue with this zoom (and the 24-70mm) is the high distortion. With Lightroom, this issue is virtually eliminated with the lens correction profile. Im happy to report that this and the 50mm 1.8G (for in-doors and portraiture, soon to be replaced by the 85mm 1.8G) are the only two lens I bring with me on vacation. Check out my 3 recent pictures taken with this lens. Alas, I must return this lens for now. There is a small dust spec right in the middle of the lens below the outer glass. This can only be fixed by sending to Nikon. That is shoddy QA for a $1300 lens. I will return and re-order when it comes back in stock.

Says certified refurbished. Looks like a new lens, and probably is, at half the price. Some doubting Thomas need to do a little research on the web to understand the terms certified refurbished and white box. I registered my lens with Nikon with no problem. Not a knock off or gray market lens. This lens is tack sharp on close-up product photography as well as landscape photography. It seems a little heavy making it and my D610 just under four pounds. Not complaining. I was a 130-pound runt in high school decades ago lugging around a 6-8 pound 4x5 Graflex Speed Graphic with flash!

Nikons 24mm-120mm f4 g is a well made lens which produces good results. Ive given it 5 stars for most aspects: construction, image quality, etc. Ive given it 4 stars for versatility-its a little heavy and may not be comfortable for carrying around all day. Some reviewers have questioned its sharpness in certain situations, but, for all-around use, its a nice lens
