This is not certified refurbished. Certified refurbished comes in a grey box with all accessories the lens comes with from Nikon (i.e., lens hood and bag).

I have obviously had this lens for a while, but never got around to writing a review--mainly because initially, I wasnt really satisfied with it. I bought it right before a two week trip to Scandinavia and had some focus issues with the lens (wouldnt always seem to focus correctly). I even thought about returning it, as I got back from Europe in time to do so. But somehow, I never got around to it, as I shoot with a D700, and this was the only FF lens I owned. About a month ago, I bit the bullet and bought a 24-70 that I had lusted over for a long time, and was not disappointed in any regard. So when this years Europe trip came around, I packed the new lens, and as an afterthought, packed the 240120 as well (for purely back-up purposes). After a couple of days sightseeing, though, I realized that while the 24-70 was sharp and had great color rendition, a 70mm length was not sufficient for some of the longer range shots that I took (distant mountain tops, spires of churches, etc.) So I tried the 24-120 as sort of experiment and it did fine. It was sharp and the colors were true. I had no noticeable focus issues, and came home with a new respect for this lens. Not that I am going to sell my 24-70, (and I finished the trip with it on the camera) but this lens has a place as a walk-around, sightseeing lens. Heavy, but worth the effort.

Ive owned a Nikon 24-70 for quite a while and its an amazing lens. Very sharp, virtually flawless. But.... It just doesnt have the reach for general photography. I bought this and a little part of me thought I might send it back. Not a chance - now my 24-70 is collecting dust. It has the reach to be a good general purpose walk around lens. high end Nikons allow you to shoot in crop mode so the effective max zoom is more like 180mm. You still get the 24mm at the wide end which is great. I was concerned it naught be too heavy but while its not as light as the 24-85, its not as heavy as the 24-70. Optically its much better than the 24-85 and very close to the 24-70. Losing a stop to the 24-70 isnt a big deal - just crank up the ISO a stop. besides, i dont think Ive ever shot the 24-70 wider than 5.6 anyway. ive used this to shoot concerts & plays at f/4 and its all that I wanted. Highly recommend!

A bit hesitant in buying this lens. I already have the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200. My biggest thing was lugging that 70-200 around and only using it for maybe a few shots while traveling. For my uses I dont care that this lens isnt f/2.8. This lenses is so much lighter and compact then the 70-200. Against the 24-70 it is shorter and just slightly lighter. When zooming from 24-120, it has external zoom. You will pick up an extra 2 inches in length. It does have VR which the 24-70 does not. The VR works quite well. I did test this lens against my 24-70 but only at the 24mm focal length. I used my D810 on a tripod for both lenses and shot at f/16-f/20 with no remote shutter release. VR was turned off on the 24-120. I used ACR 8.7 to view the shots. At 100% both lenses are super close in sharpness. So close its indistinguishable. Above f/16 both lenses had an insignificant amount of diffraction. No news there. Both lenses had slight distortion at 24mm but this can be corrected fast & easy in ACR. I found that at 120mm, f/5 was better over f/4. You still get nice bokeh at f/5 and whatever you auto-focused on is very sharp. I would say this is a very good buy for the money. Who knows, maybe after shooting more with it I will get rid of the 24-70.

I am a long time full time photographer. I dont compromise on lens quality. My experience has indicatedt that the Nikon f2.8 AF-S zooms have always been the cream of the crop. I ordered this lens largely to shoot personal work, and as a "walking around" one lens solution. Speaking as Nikon shooter since the mid-1970s, I have never been so pleasantly surprised as I was over the performance of this 24-120/f4, and I own and have owed over 50 of the higher end Nikon lenses. My primary "working" mid-range zoom has been the Nikon 24-70/f2.8 since it first became available. My backup for that ha been my 28-70/f2.8. Now, my primary working mid-range zoom is this one, and my 24-70/f2.8 is my backup. Thats how much I like this lens. Also, Ive never been a huge proponent of VR lenses, but the VR in the 24-120/f4 works so well that its actually very useful, unlike other VR lenses that I own or have owned. Im extremely happy that I took the plunge on this and recommend it without reservation.

An excellent all-around lens for the full frame Nikon cameras. The f/4 represents a bit of a compromise, but one I am more than willing to make for the added flexibility over the 24-70/2.8. The 24-120 balances well on my D750 and does most everything Ive asked of it well. Its an excellent choice for event photography, is quite good for portrait work, and makes a good "walking-around" lens when we travel.

I was reluctant to buy a refurbished lens but I have had my eye on this Nano Crystal Nikon lens for some time. I have the older version of this lens and it doesnt do well on my high resolution Nikon D800, e.g. soft focus. However, the older version of this lens does work well with my Nikon D700 which is lower resolution. With those facts in mind I wanted to get this lens for my D800 and I am glad I made the purchase. The lens works perfectly with the D800 and I recently tested it on a photo shoot in the Palouse and he images are tack sharp. Now this lens lives on my D800 and the older version of this lens lives on the D700. So far I really like this lens and I will update this review if my opinion changes.

Where do I begin?! LOVE this lens! As a professional photographer, I am always looking for a versatile lens with great quality at a good price. Very hard to come by. For the past couple years I was heavily using the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, but I wanted something with more range. I shoot indoor and outdoor lifestyle sessions in natural lighting, as well as birth photography, so I needed something wide, sharp, fast and could handle unique lighting situations and this lens does all of that for me for a great price! I also shoot a lot of families with active children so its nice to be able to go from a wide angle family shot and quickly zoom in to the childs face for an individual shot without even moving and missing my shot. Its quite heavy on my Nikon D750, but you get used to it. Its not very loud and it finds focus quite fast. I micro-adjusted this lens and its almost as tack sharp as any of my primes which says a lot for a wide range zoom. Great build, solid and smooth focus rings. I definitely recommend this lens for any level photographer :) As you can see from the images below taken at a recent maternity session: without the mom or I having to move, I was able to get a nice wide angle and close up in just 5 seconds with the tilt of her head.

Gigantasaurus! This is a beast. It takes great images but weighs too much and intimidates women, children, and introverts (myself included). I wish Nikon would update the 28-200G with modern glass for these new cameras, but I dont know the technicalities of that process. 24mm is nice to have, but I find I still pull out my 20mm 1.8G for wide landscape and astro shots, and use a 35mm 1.8G for travel and group family shots. I can get close with the 35, as well, for portraits. I was hoping to ditch the 70-200 f4 with this since I can crop so much in camera now with the D850, but the look of the 70-200 still outshines the 24-120, and the extra reach keeps me out of peoples faces. Its not a bad lens, just not a great lens. I really wanted to love and use this lens. Close but no cigar. :/

This factory refurbished lens looks and functions like it is brand new at a 50% cost savings. What a deal! Lens hood was missing but vendor (Cameta Camera) shipped one out so all is fine. I intended on using just prime lenses with my D810, but needed a single lens "solution" for travel. This lens is reasonably distortion free (much better than the DX-equivalent 16-85 Nikkor I used with my former Nikon camera) and has minimal and correctable CA. Autofocus is fast and the VR has allowed me to shoot down to 1/15 at 120mm. Lens stays sharp even when wide open. This is the best zoom lens Ive ever bought for the price, but Im not selling my primes.
