I purchased this lens when the refurbished one on purchased (same model) didnt work out of the box. So far this one is great....of course it is a new one, not used! The AF is pretty quick for a basic kit lens and the clarity and range are good as well. It is a good everyday lens.

Just got it! Lens looks Ok. Doesnt look new by any means.Works OK for now.Took a few snaps indoor.The rear lens cap is very cheap and white plastic cap.Not anywhere close to the original Nikkor lens cap.The original is not expensive at all! Will update about the lens later.Now I need to order the rear lens cap possibly from Nikon website! They claimed that this lens is new and got it out of a Camera bundle and not used at all! Had GDS Technology lens cover!

Great walk around lens. Ordered this to take on a trip to Finland and it spent most of the time on my camera during the trip. VR allowed me to shoot indoors with low light. Overall I am very happy with the lens. I am finding that I prefer Nikon lenses even the inexpensive ones to third party lenses. Mine was a refurbished model and has performed flawlessly for a very cheap price.

Bought this lens for a friend that bought my D5100 body from me. It is usually kit lens. Its a solid lens with very nice build quality. Not sure how I feel about the lock on the barrel. Not sure I have ever really needed a lock on there. Its pretty much the only lens Nikon makes that has the lock. But I used it for a few days before giving it to him, and I was very impressed. And he seems to love the lens!

In fact, this lens is superior to the normal lens that came with my camera. Ive loved that camera for quite a few years now, and was devastated when I dropped it and jammed the lens. This excellent lens kept me from having to purchase a new camera.

Had a freakout over the new camera lens. Attached to the camera body fine...turn on the camera..."error no lens attached"...WTF!!!! Ah ha moment....Lens manual focus ring has a lock position. Unlock the ring and it works automagically. Who knew.

I had another 18-55 previously that I loved - but this one seems like an older version and photo quality isnt as good and has a button to push to rotate zoom.

The fit finder said this lens would work with my camera. I got it in and once I had time to try it out, my screen says the lens isnt installed. So obviously it doesnt work with my camera. I emailed him for a return and he denied it, asked me no questions, didnt try to help me at all. So now I have a USELESS lens that I spent $220 on. Terrible customer service.

I was somewhat hesitant to try this lens. There are three different ones in this level of lens, so what is the difference? (I originally had the cheapest version - which broke, but lasted 5 years or so). The physical dimensions of this model are smaller. It has a push button to lock it in place (Which is easily released before use - its just past the widest angle setting and is correctly placed for your hand) The clarity is far better than the other lenses. It is not as clear as the pro level lenses - not a real surprise - and is definitely an excellent value. I elected to buy a refurbished model - I have bought several refurbished products in the past and have always been happy with them. I have used this lens for several months and have had no issues with it - highly recommended if you have one of the lower level lens in this focal length or if you dont have one at all.
