Makes a perfect lens to use for most situations on on my Nikon D5300. It is bigger and heavier that the 18-55 that came with the camera but it certainly smaller and lighter and can take most of the same shots as the 55-300 lens that also came with camera. I am a beginner with DSLR cameras but this seems to be a great all around lens.

I purchased this lens on Friday and I simply cant believe how amazingly perfect this lens is. Easily outperformed every lens Ive used thusfar. The lens is quick to focus and has a perfect focal length and range when needed. So far my pictures are all insanely crisp and perfect in nearly every way. Im using this on a D3200 and it works perfectly. If youre looking for a good all purpose lens, this one would work perfectly. Edit: Every Nikon lens Ive owned prior to this (and some very expensive, high quality lenses) have required post processing for sharpening. This one does not, or has not for me yet. Its an amazingly crisp lens, right out of the box. Highly recommended.

The picture quality on this lens is astonishing! The way that the autofocus works is not. I have learned to focus manually due to this being a common issue. You get a lot less depth, and when quick in the moment you cannot rely on autofocus ever.

Very nice lens. I checked it out on photozone and it has some very good rankings. Im shooting a full frame D750 so vignetting is a problem but for a nice all around lens that stays on the camera for regular shooting its sharp as a tack. I did get a little fall off on the edges during an astrophotography shoot the other night but that is to be expected. Amazon had it in my hands in two days without shipping costs. Great job Amazon

I love this lens. Replaced the included 18-55mm lens. This lens heavier and feels better constructed. Works flawlessly with silent motor drive. Auto focus fast and accurate. Optics clearly step above standard kit lens. These Nikon lenses all look similar but can vary significantly in their quality. You get what you pay for. I found this to be higher quality than usual at an ideal price point. I use this with my 70-300mm which covers 95% 0f my needs. Just need a wide angle and am set. Buy it.

The external plastic casing broke shortly after purchasing. Though I could live with it since it doesn’t affect the photos. But at the end of the day, it kills the spontaneous part of the experience.

This is the primary lens on my Nikon D5200. At 7.8x zoom, it covers almost all my focal length needs, with surprisingly few optical compromises. Build quality is solid with near premium materials. Its reasonably sharp at all focal length. Focusing performance is superb: lightning fast, and always on target. There is essentially no focus hunting, even in low light. At longer focal lengths, you get a nice background blur. The zoom gears are a little on the stiff side, but as a result there is absolutely no zoom creep. At 55 mm focal length, the aperture opens to f4.8, which is one-half stop brighter than the f5.6 value of Nikons 18-55 basic kit zoom at the same focal length. What are the downsides? In the first place, a well built long zoom like this is going to be big and heavy. There is no way around it. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to its size. When zoomed out, the top edge of the lens does cast a small shadow when the built in flash is used. Its only noticeable in certain situation. There is minor barrel distortion at the wide end, but it can be easily corrected manually in-camera if it bothers you. Nikon has not issued a firmware update for automatic distortion correction yet. The image colors taken by this lens are not as vibrant as what you get with a prime, but certainly no worse than the standard 18-55 mm VR kit. Regarding the price. This lens is listed at $600, but the price drops down to $350 when purchased as a kit along with Nikon D5300 or D7100. Verdict: A perfect all around lens for your Nikon DSLR if you dont mind the bulk

Love this lens so far. This was for my first DSLR and everything I have read pre-purchase recommends the 18-140mm for all purpose photography. Great for portraits, travel, and general photography. Looking forward to using this in Italy/France in a couple of months!

Works as expected. Happy with this lens as a first choice to go with my new D7200. I will obviously upgrade and move from this lens, but it serves me well now.
