After the original lens that came with my D40 kit inexplicably crapped out on me, I searched high and low for a better, yet affordable Nikkor. Enter this little gem. I was iffy about buying a refurbished lens, but if you told me it was brand new, Id totally believe you. It focuses fast, work smoothly and shoots beautifully. Ive heard criticisms that it tends toward a pincushion effect when zoomed out, or that a purple haze sometimes appears along edges, but I havent experienced anything negative in my shots. Also came with some nice accessories!

This was a replacement for a lens my wife dropped in a lake. The camera (a Nikon D90) dried out and worked fine, but the lens failed to return to normal function, so we bought a new one. The previous lens lasted 2 years without any problems, and as you might have guessed, it occasionally got some rough handling. Others have reported problems with broken mounts, but we never had any problem with the mount. The lens always worked perfectly and gave a very crisp and high quality picture. This is the general go to lens we use for all the outings. I would recommend this lens, and we have bought another.

I like this lens. It is great for general shooting around the home, hiking or exploring little towns. It is light weight and not cumbersome when walking into little shops or antique stores. It is not a macro or zoom but will work well for general use for the general photographer. I gave it only 4 stars because it is for general use; a professional my not use it for professional shoots. I do think it is great for the causal photographer and great for the price because of the quality. I am glad I have it in my collection.

I had been looking for the perfect lens for portraits. This lens covers the exact zoom length I need, while retaining the wide angle. I was nervous about getting a refurbished camera lens. No problems at all. In fact, you would never even know its a refurb. Its not a "fast" lens. But, you wont get a fast lens with VR. Thats ok. Its easy to make up the difference with shutter speed. And for doing photos in a church, where its rude to use a flash, it opens up enough. Again, shutter speed helps there. Plus, shooting in RAW makes all the difference in the world. Lenses are personal. Just do your research, and figure out what you need.

Weve had this lens for 3 years now & still love it. Its held up really well given that it has a plastic lens mount. We switch out our lenses fairly regularly and still have had no issues. We purchased this lens to go with an older Nikon DSLR we were gifted. We upgraded to the Nikon d3100 this past year and were happy to save a few bucks by not needing to buy the whole kit. For the "average joe" this is a great lens!

I use this on a D40. I like it because it has VR and it has a good range for the money 18-105mm. Think about where most of your photos fall on that scale. Barrel is larger diameter from the kit lenses, so it may cut off the AF illuminator at short distances, but all works perfectly for me. The only bad reviews I saw concerned plastic cracking at the mounting. You can avoid this, and keep your sensor a lot cleaner, by not switching lenses so frequently. Get yourself a good circular polarizer while youre at it.

The refurbished lens shipped quickly and item was in great condition as advertised. I have used the lens for a couple weeks with great results - no concerns with the integrity of the lens have been noted - item appeared new and arrived in a Nikon box with all applicable components. This lens has become my favorite Nikon "walk around" lens. The perfect range for close up and far away without going to the super heavy and much more expensive lenses. I am getting super sharp images with this lens. I highly recommend this lens especially for beginners.....
