I owned the Sigma 35 "Art" lens, and while it was nice and sharp, I am glad I replaced it with the Nikon version, as I greatly prefer how Nikon lenses render the out of focus areas of the picture. For me its just a smoother, better, more pleasing to the eye feel, (yes, I realize this is all subjective), and I think its worth paying more for the Nikon lens (if you can afford it.)

I was looking for something a little wider than a 50mm lens with the ability to get a short depth of field. It doesnt get any better than this. Im finding the lens very effective for photographing toddlers in their element. Since they dont sit still very long, this lens just allows you to follow the action and get a sense of place in the image. Its certainly not cheap, but the lens has such a beautiful quality, a look you dont see everyday.

This is another outstanding Nikon prime lens - sharp, fast, and well built. I would highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for a slight wide angle that is perfect with your full-sized sensor Nikon.

Love the lens and ability to use it in low light. I have a small in-home studio and with the 35mm I can get the whole picture. Crisp and clean and very pretty bokeh.

Sharp in the center wide-open, sharp to the corners at f/2, sharp throughout the frame at f/4. Heavy vignetting at f/1.4 that disappears entirely by f/2.8. Mild barrel distortion thats largely unnoticeable. Purple fringing and LoCa somewhat common, but not severe. Highlights in the bokeh have a tendency to blow-out at f/1.4, very smooth by f/2. All-in-all, a very satisfying lens. My first foray into prime territory and undoubtedly my most-used piece of glass. Pictures from this lens tend to have a very specific feel that you will either love or hate -- after a month of constant usage, I opted for the former. Id highly recommend renting this one before a purchase.

I used to use the Nikon 17-50mm, a very expensive lens! But going prime is the way to go after you take your photography to the next level. I can do a wedding with this lens, an 85mm, 50mm and 20mm. Four lenses but oh... so worth it. This one completed the kit to leave my zoom in my back up back. The sharpness is superb. The look and bouque amazing!

Sweet spot is bottom right corner. Bottom left corner is hard to get completely sharp. Wide apertures dont work so well unless youre close to the subject. Once you get used to it, very sharp & great colors! On my D600 75% of the time, shooting portraits & weddings!

I love this lens, the focus is wonderful and quality is great but my favorite thing about this lens in the tone rendering. Colors are so beautiful and if you use VSCO this is a wonderful compliment to their presets. Its going to be awhile before I take this lens off my D700.

Its a great Nikon AF lens. It is NOT small or light…but a beautiful lens that produces fantastic images. Because I was on a search for a F1.4 "Museum Lens"…I decided to try this. I have a 50 and an 85 but I am still searching for the "right" lens to use in museums and churches while traveling. Now I am looking at the 24…but it seems kinda crazy to be spending so much $$$ just trying to find the "perfect travel lens for indoor shots". I need to just accept that fact that it aint gonna happen and I sure am not going to carry 4-5 big and HEAVY lenses on trips. I love the lens…but not for what I had hoped it would do. I need to spend more time with these lenses at home and use them locally to see how I can find a solution base on what I have…which is an arsenal of fantastic fast primes…..

Phenomenal lens with an FX body. Impressive sharpness and contrast. This is my go to lens when traveling despite its weight and size.
