I just recently bought this lens when it was on sale. I have walked around a local lake to take some pictures, more nature pictures rather than portraits for the time being. Using a x-t1 with high performance mode on: This lens is pretty fast focusing for Fuji depending on the focus point box size. On the larger sizes, I was able to grab focus on flying ducks and geese mid air. I was also able to track runners around the lake. Both coming toward the camera and running away from the camera. Both AF-s and AF-c seems to do well. I think its a little faster than the xf55-200. On the smaller focus point sizes, it was a tad slower. It is also a bit slower to focus if I am changing between extremely close and far subjects. The output is good, which I have come to expect from Fuji. We all know the pictures will be great, or why else are we even thinking about dropping $800 for a single lens. I have an outdoor wedding coming up and I cant wait to try it out then. I have attached some photos from this lens from a trip to the zoo after purchase. I did a little editing, but they were all shot in jpeg in fuji standard film simulation. Added 3/23/16 I just had a chance to shoot a portrait session last week. This lens did exceptionally well. Very sharp and contrasty. Bokeh rendering was good. The focus speed was quick - I was using eye detect focus and the subjects usually shift around between shots. Although that was fast enough. The focus was still a touch slow when it comes to focusing between a near and far subject.

This lens is pure joy for myself. It stays on my camera 75% of the time. I love getting out into nature with it. I love taking portraits with it. Its snappy, sharp, weather sealed, and has beautiful bokeh.

Sheer magic! The 90mm has it all!!! I cant think of a down side at all. If this lens was damaged beyond repair, I would buy a replacement the same day!!!! This is my go-to outdoor portrait lens and WOW factor workhorse:) My favorite trio: 14mm 2.8 35mm 1.4 90mm 2.0 Ive posted an 100% cropped straight from camera head shot to give you a better idea.

This lens is spectacularly good; its WAY better than I am. Freakishly sharp, great in low-light settings, focuses fast, even on my ancient Fuji XPro-1. It has a certain something that makes pictures taken using it look extra special, flesh tones are gorgeous and pretty much all of the best photos I have taken in my 30+ years of photography have been created using this specific lens. 100% thumbs up from me. I have never used a better lens.

This is one of those special lenses that Fuji has come out with that I soooooooo love. Watch out Canon and Nikon (Mainly Nikon) Mirrorless is picking up steam and Fuji and Sony are at the head of the pack. This lens is perfect for waist up portrait and also head shot photography. But thats not all that its for. Because this is the equivalent lens as a FF 135mm you can also use it to shoot sports as the new line of Fuji Cameras and the next to come are going to be getting better and better for faster moving subjects. This lens is one of my favorite and I have it on my camera at least 40-50% of the time and my 50-140mm f/2.8 on my other camera body.

This is a very sharp lens. Focus is fast and accurate. I purchased this lens to take photos of indoor sporting events. The reach and bright aperture are ideal for the often poor lighting conditions inside a gymnasium. I use this lens with a Fuji XT1. The lens is large by mirrorless standards. I have also taken stunning portraits with this lens. The compression at 90mm combined with the 2.0 aperture offers the absolute best creamy backgrounds of any of the Fuji lenses I have owned. This lens is a keeper.

This lens has been amazing! I love it. It doesnt have optical stabilization which would have made this the best lens ever.

This lens is as close to flawless as you will get. Every Fuji XF is stellar and this one stands above the others. On the X-Pro2 AF is astoundingly quick. Sharp Beautiful Fast oh, and Bokeh / blur that is top notch.

This is an early review: Ive only had the lens for two days, and Ive maybe taken a few hundred photos with it. I shoot with an x-t1 and have the newest firmware (4.0). Every aspect of the image quality is out-of-this-world from center to edge/corner at essentially every aperture setting, including f2. I havent tested it much past f11 yet. If you peruse the internet for early reviews of the lens, everyone is drooling. Its so incredibly sharp that Ill just use this as my telephoto lens most of the time: I can easily crop out half of the pixels to get a 200mm full-frame-equivalent photo (at about 7mp, which is fine for most online work and smaller prints). The aperture ring is nice and firm - a little more firm than the XF 23mm. Maybe a little too firm if you really want to move it with one finger. I like that the focus ring isnt a clutch-style mechanism: I like to use the Auto+Manual focusing mode; and, its really not that hard to flip the cameras switch over to manual focusing. I was worried about the size and weight, but its not bad. Its about the same size as Canons 85mm f1.8, which was one of my old favorites. It is heavier than the Canon, but the lightweight Fuji bodies make up for the difference. Im definitely glad its not larger, and it would be nice if it were smaller, but the weight and size shouldnt detract a buyer too much. Im also glad that they shrunk the width of this guy compared to the original fat version they were demoing. Thanks Fuji for creating more lenses with the 62mm filter size. I appreciate that this lens is weather resistant. In addition to the obvious benefits of weather sealing, its good to know that I can sell this lens as used in 5 years without buyers too concerned with dust inside the lens. Interior dust isnt the end of the world for a lens, but it can make it harder to sell in the future. However, I doubt that Ill ever sell this lens. Yes, the lens hood is plastic, but the fit is great, and its easy to get on, off, and reverse. I also use step-up rings, other metal lens hoods, and 72mm filers. With the MCEX-11 macro adapter, the working distance is about 10 inches to 30 inches, which is both a large range and not crazy close. http://www.amazon.com/FUJIFILM-Macro-Extension-Tube-MCEX-11/dp/B00R1F11H8 If I were to complain about anything, its the focus speed. I was prepared to be wowed beyond belief because of the quad-motor. Sometimes the focus speed is incredibly fast (small adjustments with phase detection) but other times it does contrast-mode searching that takes a little longer than Id like (approx. between 1 tenth and 7 tenths of a second). It also occasionally likes to focus on the background, especially when it has more contrast than a small subject. Firmware updates may be able to fix this. In the meantime, I can improve the performance by adjusting the size of the focus box to match the size of the part of the subject I want it to lock onto. If its still not grabbing the subject, then theres always the manual focus ring. Overall, though, Im happy with the focusing speed. Oh, and its crazy quiet, all of the time. ... I also tested it with some of the new focusing options, thanks to FW 4.0. I used it at a kids baseball game and captured beautifully in-focus photos of the runners and pitcher using the continuous mode with both wide tracking and the zone mode. Very happy. Id say the last thing to consider is the focal length itself. I like this focal length for portraits, although it puts quite a bit of distance between me and the subject. This works great when Im capturing candid photos, e.g. at a wedding. It lets me get a nice portrait shot without disturbing the subject. However, most portrait photographers like to be closer to their subjects, or need to be closer because of space limitations. There are many photographers that find this focal length kind of boring: not enough of the scene, but also not tele enough to really reach much. As I mentioned earlier, if you dont mind reducing the dimensions of the photo some, the sharpness of this lens will help it function like a greater telephoto lens. Because of the excellent image quality at f2, I imagine Ill use this mostly to separate interesting and beautiful subjects from the background. Additionally, with this lens superb image quality and the Xt1s beautiful jpegs, especially B+W jpegs, my suspicion is that Im about to embark into some personally-unexplored areas of photography, which is very exciting. Fuji has been great at integrating online user feedback, and you can tell they have incorporated a lot of that feedback into this lens. Thanks Fuji for an incredible lens.
