Fuji makes great lenses and this one is my favorite. It is rock solid and is super sharp. Another plus is that I think it is a little faster to focus with the new AF programs of the X-T3.

Borrowed a 27mm 2.8 from a friend and its autofocus was horribly loud, it kind of ruined a video I shot of a training, it was the first fuji lens I used and I almost let it set the standard for what all fuji lenses were like. Bought this 35mm 1.4 after reading reviews I was scared the af on this would be loud also, but the af on this version is livable and fast enough for my needs.

This is the fastest optic for the X family until the 23mm arrives mid-Oct. This is a great lens with roughly a 50mm field of view on 35mm eqiv. The lens is sharp and I like the aperture ring. The styling is great and the results are top notch. The only downers are the sluggish AF performance and the loudish AF motor. It reminds me of my 50mm D on my Nikon several years ago. Compared to the whisper quiet performance of, say, the 18-55 or even the 55-200, its noisy. But the images are worth the wait and the audible irritation. Ive found it only a nuance when trying not to disturb those around me. Its really not that bad, hence it still having 5 stars due to overall performance with image output. If youre used to the likes of the Nikon AFS, Canon USM or even the Sigma HSM, this well feel slow and loud, but it does deliver on image quality. Bottom line, if you shoot with the interchangeable X series and need/want the 50mm equiv. that so many shooters enjoy, this is the ticket. Nothing else comes close nor is anything else this fast. The 18-55 is good at a similar focal point, but not as sharp in my book, and certainly nowhere near as fast. A great, light, fast (optically) lens for the X system.

Very sharp in the center wide open, very sharp across the frame even by f/2.8. Bokeh is a little harsh at f/1.4 in some circumstances (mainly small out of focus objects), but much improved even by f/2. Focus is a little slow even with all focus updates. The lens is very well built with knurled metal focus ring and excellent overall feel. Manual focus feel is not great, but it is fine for small adjustments after initial autofocus. I recommend this lens for available light shooting, or excellent performance stopped down. There is always the question whether or not to buy a large aperture prime or a standard zoom. This lens will shine in that f/4 and wider range that is not covered by the zoom. If you never shoot at larger apertures you will likely not notice a big difference between the two. This lens is a great classic standard for the Fuji X system.

This is my second lens besides my 18-55mm. Both are very sharp, which is due to great glass and the great fuji camera sensor. Im impressed by Fujinon lenses and can say it clearly beats my Canon 50mm f1.4 in sharpness. The bokeh is great. I was debating between 23mm and 35mm, but I wanted more blur (longer focal length=less distortion), smaller lens (lighter), and its cheaper (-$300), so the 35mm won. Im glad I chose the 35mm to add to my arsenal. The 35mm equals to what your eye can see and its great to put the camera to your eye and see the same scale. Capture images the way you see it. A few downsides: -Noisy focus motor (not any louder than the shutter tho, but louder than 18-55mm) -Lens goes in and out about 1/4" or so, but it doesnt rotate. -Focus hunts a bit in low light (paired with my xe1) Im sure the newer cameras dont have this problem.

The Fuji XF35mm 1.4 R is amazingly sharp. Even wide open, the 35 1.4 is a very managable lens to maintain edge to edge sharpness. It truly has that special feel and image quality that makes it an instant classic. While not weather resistant, the lens is built well. The XF35mm 1.4 R has a solid, metal construction that fits the hand well. Where this lens excels in optical performance, it stutters a hair in auto focus performance. It is adequate, but not stellar. Compared to say Canons 50mm f1.2 or 85 mm f1.2 which are two of the slowest lenses I have ever used, this lens is definitely a step up in auto focus performance. However, even with the most recent firmware upgrades and on Fujis fastest current camera (the Fuji x-t2 at the time of this review), it has some focus hesitations. With Fuji entering the video market with the new x-t2, I would be careful with this lens unless you are shooting b-roll or in manual focus. The lens is loud in AF mode and one can hear it pulling focus with even an on camera shotgun mic. Also, the focus action is fairly jerky in movie mode and a little unsettling compared to Fujis other lens offerings. All this said, I would still highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for a fast, normal focal range on an x-camera. If editorial, landscape or normal day in the life photography is your subject matter, this lens preforms superbly. What focus lag there is, Fuji makes up for with the accuracy of their system. This lens may take a fraction more of a second to hit focus; but when it is does, it is accurate. This is more than I can say for other systems I have used over the years that have cost many times more than this quality piece of glass.

All I have to say is "wow". The image quality of this lens is amazing. Its tack sharp, has really nice bokeh, and is very small. I purchased this to use with my XT-1 and they work awesome together. I really like the aperture ring, it has been quite easy to use. There is an automatic setting, so even if you arent that experienced you can still use this lens on "auto" mode. The construction of this lens is very good. Its mostly metal and glass. I really like the design of the sunshade that was included. It has a very firm and audible snap when you lock it in place. Everything about this product is first class - including the packaging it arrived in. If you are looking for a 50mm equivalent lens for your X-mount camera, this is the product for you.

This lens is magic. The perfect companion to my X-Pro 1. Image Quality: Its tack sharp at f/1.4 and only gets sharper stopping down. Very minimal chromatic aberration in really high contrast scenes and non-existent in pretty much everything else. Out of focus areas have a very pleasing smoothness. Build Quality: Wonderful. Lightweight yet a fully solid metal construction. The focus ring is drive by wire but on my copy its buttery smooth. The aperture ring has a pleasing click in 1/3 stops to it. Just the right bit of firmness at full stops and slightly softer in between. Size is just right. Some areas that have bothered others and my take: • the lens is loud... its not loud but you can certainly hear the feel the motor working. Its not a super silent lens but doesnt kill the moment. • the lens hood makes using it with filters impossible... NO IT DOESNT. Put the filter on before the hood. All of my Hoya filters work just fine this way • the rubber lens cap is useless... it pretty much is. Its always falling off when I pull my camera from my bag. I dont use a lens cap with this lens anymore, though. I leave the lens hood on and its always ready to shoot. • the AF is terrible... the autofocus is not terrible. Its mid-range for Fuji. With the current firmware updates, this lens is pretty darn good in good light. Even in bad light youll get solid focus, but you need some contrast on the subject or something nearby to nail it. Its more the Fuji cameras on this area. As they improve I bet the capabilities of this lens will show more.

Amazing Lens !!!!! I also had the 35 F2.0 and in my opinion this Lens runs circles around that one. Super sharp! Light weight! small footprint! and faster. One of my favorite! There is a reason its $200.00 more then the 2.0 Its worth it.

This is an amazing lens. It creates very nice bokeh and incredibly sharp images. I couldnt be happier with the purchase. It was originally intended to compliment the 18-55 X-T1 kit lens; however, since I put it on I just cannot take it off the camera. It is a pleasure to use. I hesitated on this purchase because I read so many reviews of people complaining about the noise and the terrible hood/cap situation so I figured Id address those: First, yes, it does make noise but I have a difficult time imagining it being a deal breaker to a potential buyer. With the latest firmware installed (never tried it without) you know its working but I highly doubt it will spoil your day. As for the lens cap situation: The hood is not compatible with the lens cap and the hood cap will fall off. I keep the hood on all the time to protect the glass and I keep the caps in the box at home. This works great for me and is a frustration-free solution. I prefer this to a larger hood that may allow the use of the cap but also takes up more space in the bag. I wanted a small, tidy package and this delivers. If either of these issues are giving you pause I would encourage you to just take the plunge. While the complaints are not without some merit they are also a great example of how the internet takes small issues and amplifies them into something they are not.
