I purchased this lens as a permatnent installation on an old-school Fuji X-E1. The lens doesnt look like much, but the images it turns out are just stellar. I call this combo my po mans X-100/S/T. A great walk-about combo that still works at the professional APS-C format.

I bought this lens a few months ago for my xe-1. I had been shooting with the f1.4, 35mm and wanted a slightly wider field of view. This lens has provided me with a great field of view and very good sharpness. Is it as sharp as my 35mm, probably not, but who cares. A real pleasure to use.

I originally purchased this lens because of its focal length and its size. It is good for family functions and taking pictures of people moving around its also great for street photography. This lenses small enough that it can almost make a Fuji X-E1 pocketable. With dress slacks and nothing else in my pocket Ive been able to fit this camera in comfortably. The focus is pretty fast while not the fastest Aperture it gets the job done. I dont have any complaints about softness in the corners with this lens that others have had. However the one drawback with this lens is because of its size I find myself shooting like I have a point-and-shoot which can sometimes lead to bad photos that couldve easily been corrected had I took my time, and checked my settings.

This is a great little lens. As other have stated dont pay MSRP. The autofocus is not what I would call graceful, but it punches out reliably focused sharp/contrasty photos rather quickly. I suspect the people who are complaining about the autofocus have mostly pro gear. Make sure your body has the latest firmware! No its not up to Ultrasonic Canon EF lens auto focusing specs (or Olym m4/3 Ive heard), but its pretty darn good. Its certainly better than my canon 50mm f1.8 (aka the grinder, non-ultrasonic) Others have said dont take pictures of the kids with this lens, but I dont agree. Coupled with Fujis low sensor noise the F2.8 aperture is adequate. I loved setting my canon EF primes almost fully open, but frequently I paid the price with out of focus shots (moving subjects, action) due to the narrow depth of field F1.8 gives you. This lens sort of cured me of that problem comparing recent outings with the contrasting set ups. Point being is dont shy away because this is not an f2.0 or 1.8 because for a lot of shooting scenarios you wont shoot that wide open anyway and the fuji lens is sharp fully open. The glass is plenty sharp at this price too. If you are looking for an awesome single focal length walk about camera on a budget I can recommend the X-E1 (fall 2014 price are dropping) and this lens. End up having an amazingly cheap and sharp setup with low sensor noise at higher ISOs and a great jpg engine. Im taking tons of pictures and enjoying the results without feeling like I have to tweak every photo (canon). Im new enough to the Xtrans sensor and this lens that Im still giddy when the camera makes a good photo out of low cruddy light. Its not a miracle worker, but Im certainly having fun.

Great for my style of street photography. Very discreet. Good picture quality. Probably wont rival the best of Leica, Canon, Nikon, or Zeiss. But in practice, its plenty good enough. I use it with the XM-1 to buld myself a very compact camera that looks like a P&S. Most people do not even notice I was taking their pictures.

Using it with my Fuji X-E1. I wanted a thin lens to use instead of the kit 18-55mm lens I normally have on the camera. Turns the X-E1 into a more discrete camera to carry around when shooting street photography or in traveling in areas with increased risk of theft. Im able to now fit the camera with this lens in my coat pocket and dont need to place it in a camera bag. For its price, its a very good lens. No aperture control trough he lens itself but not an issue for me using the camera controls to do.

This is a peculiar focal length - a little wide of "normal" but not really "wide angle". It is equivalent to a 41mm on a 35mm film camera. Very few lenses of this category have ever been offered. Yet there has been a debate going back decades that the angle of view presented by these lenses comes closer to the natural or "normal" view seen by humans than does the traditional normal lenses (50mm in 35mm film or full frame digital). I cant say who is right but I remember the 40mm that came on my first serious camera, a Konica TC. I remember that it was easy to use and did its job very well. Attached to a Fuji X-E1 or X-E2 the 27mm gives you a very light, compact package with a lot of versatility. I often prefer this to the 16-50mm kit lens that I also have. With a little foot work and thought I can cover almost the sane range of subjects. Subjectively, image quality appears very sharp and clean to me. Reviewers with the means to do more objective technical evaluations seem to agree. Pros: Small, light, flat. No zoom. No aperture ring (use thumb wheel instead). F/2.8 Cons: No zoom, No aperture ring. F/2.8. Not particularly close focusing. I dont see how a lens faster than F/2.8 or with closer focusing could be designed without being larger and heavier. More: After more use here are a couple of additional observations. --If you are doing hardcore landscape photos (i.e., tripod & cable release & ND filters), either the 35mm or 23mm is a better choice since the additional impedimenta just cited pretty much negates any size and weight advantages. -- You may be willing to to bring an X-E2 plus this lens along on difficult journeys (for example- 10 hours on horseback) where a larger body & lens would wear you down.

This lens is exactly what I would expect for the price and then some. I was looking for a compact lens for my X-E2, something with an approximate normal field of view. The 27mm F2.8 lens looked like a good fit. Before I go any further I do want to acknowledge the complaints about noisy focus and a degree of hunting before the lens locks on to the subject. Compared to the 18-55 kit lens both motor noise and focus hunting are evident in the 27mm lens. If your typical subject matter would suffer from 1/2 second more focus time, dont buy this lens. Bear in mind that this is essentially a sub $300 lens and set your expectations accordingly. My review of this lens is characterized by the word Enough. It is sharp enough, fast enough, accurate enough to make me pleased with my purchase. I didnt expect legendary performance from a lens that sits at the bottom rung of its family price tree. I did however expect sharpness and color fidelity equal to the standards set by Fuji and I havent been disappointed. Party pictures - great! Still life - fantastic! Street shooting - discreet! Five kids tearing around the backyard - meh. But then thats why I have the 18-55 or I can purchase some other $600+ lens with similar focal length. Buy this lens if you want a compact kit that screams Dont leave me at home! Buy this lens if you love the composition challenges of shooting a normal-ish lens where the zoom is your own two feet. Dont buy the lens if your subject matter frequently includes fast moving subjects - but then you wouldnt want an F2.8 when faster lenses of similar length are available.

Ive had the lens for over two years and it is still my favorite. I love the small form factor and excellent image quality. I put the 16mm f/1.4 on my X-T1 occasionally, but the 27mm always returns

Small, compact, very very light with a fairly fast autofocus. The focusing ring on mine is very stiff, not sure if that is normal but the image quality is also great. I use mine with a fuji xe2 and the whole setup is extremely light and compact. Must have.
