I spent a lot of time reflecting before I bought this lens. The reviews, including YouTube evaluations, were generally good to excellent, but not superlative. There was a lot of complaint about the weight. Since I own an X PRO 2, with an additional hand grip, I was not sure about the ergonomics in hand holding. Also, the lens was expensive. Finally, I took the plunge and bought it. The lens is large, but the weight is not the problem that I was led to believe it would be. It is amazingly easy to hand hold. I cushion the flat bottom of the tripod mount in my left hand and use the EVF, with the camera pressed firmly against my face. And it works well. All I can say about the image stabilization is that it is amazing. I am an older person and am more unsteady than I was when I was young. But the ability of the IS to visibly snap in is very obvious in the viewfinder, and the images at 600mm focal length equivalent are tack sharp in the center, which is the most important location for the use of this lens. I do use 1/250th of a second as my standard shutter speed and have not evaluated the IS at lower speeds. Suffice it to say that my shots come in sharp, and in focus. Also, the X PRO 2, shooting at f 5.6 at 600mm equivalent and 1/250th of a second, still allows moderately low light photography at ISO 3000-5000 with very little background noise and excellent color rendition. As far as I am concerned, this lens is a keeper. It is expensive, but costs a lot less than the 600mm equivalent Olympus Pro lens. Despite the extra weight, I plan to keep it in my lens kit bag and discard my older 55-200 lens in the interest of over all weight reduction. Kudos to Fujifilm.

I got this lens just 3 days ago. Took it out to Conowingo dam the day before. Did not know much about how to focus with my XT20, but learnt a few basic things from Ricos book. And I think I got decent pictures for a first timer. No tripod used. Did use a bean bag for some photos. Some photos were taken with the 1.4 teleconverter. Lightly edited in Lightroom. It is a lens I should have bought much earlier.

first I had the 55-200mm and I felt it was a great zoom lens. But i was curious how much better this 100-400mm lens can be. Yes, twice the focal length but is there really more to it? well unfortunately for my 55-200mm, once I got my hands on this 100-400mm lens, I never touched my 55-200mm anymore. More reach and getting more details, better colors and just better pictures opened a new world to me (for example I was able to take pics of an eagle sitting on a tree and seeing all his feathers and super details in great quality). yes, its expensive..yes its heavy and big....BUT it is a great lens with excellent OIS! A lens that can provide something to you that none of the other Fuji lenses can as it takes you so much closer to the subjects. Its a specialty lens..its a unique lens..and its worth every penny. I will be on my way to Yellowstone soon..cant wait. btw, its not as heavy as it looks...its big (dimension wise), but its lighter than it looks. yes its still heavy compared to other Fuji lenses...but much lighter than DSLR zooms, like some gigantic Nikor lenses etc. now that I mentioned the 55-200...by having this big 100-400, it doesnt mean, I will dump my 55-200mm...its a great lens too, an excellent travel lens as its light and compact (compared to the 100-400) with great picture quality. Together with the 18-55, the 55-200 is the perfect travel combo... But for maximum reach and most details when needed (specialty trips like Yellowstone etc), the 100-400 is the way to go.

When compared to the high-priced lenses on the market, the price of this lens becomes more reasonable. It is not subtle, it is the biggest, heaviest XF lens that Fujifilm offers. It really brings the subject in. It is solidly built but is not as heavy as Canon and Nikon comparable lenses I am quite satisfied with the clarity and image quality. The focus ring is a little stiff, maybe because it is new. I wish it could focus closer than about five feet. I get some great bokeh from this lens, though. The image stabilization allows me to handhold the lens and shoot birds on telephone poles. It is good for moon shots with a 1.5 crop factor making it like a 600mm lens in the 35mm format. There are several little "gifts" that come with this lens. One is a little trap door in the hood which allows adjustment of polarizing filters without taking the hood off. The hood snaps onto the lens in reverse when you want to pack it away. There is a focus distance limiter switch, which locks the lens at 100mm for carrying it around and so the autofocus system wont "hunt" over the full range of the lens. I include two photos. The first is an uncropped photo of a radio tower approximately 8 miles away. The second is a crop of the first photo, showing how it can be enlarged.

This lens on the X-T2 has finally given my a viable SLR replacement system for sports and wildlife. The focus speed is awesome. Focus accuracy using the X-T2 is spot on. Add to the the incredible coverage of focus points on the X-T2 and you can track subjects nearly all the way across the frame. This is far superior to even the highest end SLR which dont offer the same frame coverage. At first I didnt fully understand or appreciate the OIS (stabilization) offered by this lens. Fuji should do a better job at documenting it. The owners manual never really details how the OIS works. But the manufacturers product description on their main website explains more clearly how the stabilization automatically adjusts for panning. This is simply awesome. Awesome.

This is one of the best long lens I used. Fuji did a great job. Just wish was a constant F4. Will be a killer on long lens Pros. Very Sharp Image quality Superb.***** Focus very fast Great glass inside, Five ED Elements, One Super ED Element Good range 152-609mm OIS Weather-Sealed Design Cons. A bit heavy but better than other competitors I use in the pass. Overall recommended. Check some images straight from the camera. Used with XT-20

I stepped down from a full range of canon lenses to the Fuji mirrorless camera and lenses. This lens is very good. On the fuji xt-2 it is a 150-600 mm lens. Add the 1.4 teleconverter and you have a nice almost 900mm lens. It works for me. I have a few bird images on instagram if you would like to see the images produced by this lens.

This lens is about the same size as I remember the Canon 100-400 L v.1 being. I think it weighs about the same as well [nope - weighs less see correction] - a very big and heavy piece of glass compared to every other Fuji prime X series lens. But - but it does things in framing and isolating subjects that no other lens in the lineup can do. [edit] [amazon has this lens at 4.2 lbs - Fuji has it at 3.03 lbs - which makes it a pound less than the Canon equivalent] The tripod collar seems fine. It is sturdy and the adjustment is stable and doesnt seem to work itself loose. The foot of the tripod mount is threaded to add a quick release plate, whether arca swiss or other. The hood locks onto the lens with a very firm click and the door for accessing the circular polarizer is substantial and doesnt seem like it would break anytime soon. The construction is typical Fuji - solid, lots of metal, smooth in operation, every bit a premium and well-crafted product. The images are stunning. The lens balances well on the X-T1 with the battery grip attached, and is well-balanced on the X-Pro 2 also. The Lowepro 11cm x 26cm lens case fits this lens - the hood makes it a bit tight, but perfectly acceptable,

The best telephoto that I have ever owned! I have it attached to my X3 on a tripod, pointed at my bird feeders. I get fabulous shots. I only use it with a tripod because it is so heavy.
