When I first saw this lens mentioned, I was fairly disappointed due to its widest aperture being only 5.6. However, after receiving this lens I totally understood why and realized what Fuji was striving for. Just to be concise, this lens is amazingly sharp, very light, has awesome image stabilization, and a perfect all-around lens. I am betting that Fuji saw that they had already produced the perfect 250mm lens and realized that they did not need to duplicate a mixture of the 110-120mm lenses and instead went after an awesome all around lens that can be carried pretty easily. I do not have the 50R but I would imagine that putting this lens on it would be very manageable to carry and get great results. Personally, I use this lens predominantly for landscape shots for which I feel it performs perfect as I cannot find a weakness. Of course, it would always be nicer to have it faster but one has to realize the confinements of physics in production. I have used it for portraits and found that one can still separate the subjects from the background quite nicely. I did include a photo that is not very good just as an example where that can be seen. The bokeh is generally quite nice although it is not perfect like the 110mm lens. I feel that it is a bit more busy but very far from being a poor performer. Both the landscape and the portrait shots included were taken hand held at the 100 ISO just to demonstrate how amazing the image stabilization performs. It is extremely nice to have this and allows one to take very nice hand held shots at shutter speeds actually quite slow. When testing it out, I found that I could get extremely sharp shots at speeds as slow as a tenth of a second. I really do not have any complaints about this lens at all. The only thing that I wish they would have done differently is have made the lens foot have an Arca-swiss type plate so one would not have to attach one but that is actually quite minor. I very highly recommend this lens!
