Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM Lens

This is my second prime lens after the 50mm f1.8 STM. I like it since it is a bit wider, equal to approximately 35mm full frame. This focal length produces some very nice natural looking shots as it is close to what the human eye sees. Image quality is very good, definitely a bit sharper than the standard 18-55mm kit lens that most cameras come with. At f2.8 it isnt the sharpest, but thats a sacrifice you have to make for letting in so much light with such a small lens. Stopped down to f4 sharpness noticeably improves. But back down at f2.8 this lens can get a surprisingly shallow depth of field, especially with a close subject. If you are the type of person who likes to post pictures of your food all over social media, this is the lens for you. It is wide enough to capture food without needing to lean too far out of your seat, is very small and convenient to carry, and at f2.8 lets in a lot of light while nicely blurring the background. I thought my Samsung Galaxy S8 did a good job of capturing food until I tried this lens. Now I want to carry my DSLR around even more. It does unfortunately lack optical image stabilization, so its not an ideal lens for video. I tried it, but since my hands are not the steadiest I was not very satisfied with the video results. It also doesnt have the quietest autofocus motor, especially for an STM lens. This means that even with an on camera mounted external mic you might be able to hear the lens focusing, something you definitely want to avoid in your videos. Overall I highly recommend this lens, especially for anyone who likes the 50mm f1.8 but wants something a bit wider. The small size also makes it a very portable lens, and when combined with a body it makes for a much lighter and more compact DSLR experience.

This Canon EF-S 24 mm wide angle lens is a good complement to the 55 mm lens I already have with my Canon Rebel camera. Even though a 55 mm lens is the closest to the human eyes perspective, there are situations where you want to capture the periphery and not just the limited field of a 55 mm lens. Taking a picture of a whole group of people in a room while attempting to capture a good image of the room itself is one area where this 24 mm lens comes in useful. Landscape and cityscapes (such as street shots) are another place where this lens does a good job. This lens is an odd looking, thin APS-C Format "pancake" lens that has one aspherical element, a single step motor for quiet auto-focus, and a seven blade diaphragm. The lens, like most better quality lens, has a hydrophobic coating that reduces reflected glare (analogous to polarized sunglasses) and protects the glass against scratches. This coating gives the lens a blueish/purplish tint when you look at it. We have used the lens for quite a few indoor group shots, to capture images of rooms and indoor areas, as well as a few landscape and outdoor shots. The lens produces sharp, vivid colors, good contrast, and I did not notice any chromatic aberration around the edges that are characteristic of some wide angle lens. The lens is a reasonable fast lens at f/2.8 and produces fairly good quality pictures at lower light levels (without flash) especially. Sure, I would prefer a faster f/2.0 lens but at this low price, I cannot complain.

great budget lens.... I use on my 7d mark ll.. for the price its pretty good in dim low light indoors and outdoors I do recommend this lens. when you can upgrade to better lenes like the pro red ring line up do it. but until then this lens can get you by. not to narrow and not to wide. heres a couple of in door pics that would look a lot dimmer with a reg kit lens
