Coming from a photographer that grew up using ZOOM lenses at the age of 16, I am NOT a fan of fixed lenses. This lens, is absolutely worth it if you are in any stage of your photography journey. The picture quality is SO much higher than that of a kit lens for a fantasticcccc price. Yes, there are more expensive lenses with higher glass quality, but this one is absolutely amazing. I havent taken it off my camera body since I got it almost a year ago and I am going to continue to use it for quite some time. (for reference, I have a rebel t7i crop sensor)

I actually ordered this "USM" lens by mistake (thought it was the STM version). However, I like it very much. Yes, the STM is "possibly" smoother for "constant focus" video, but I believe this one actually focuses "faster" that the STM for photos. So, if you are shooting action photos, this may be the way to go. I ordered the STM version this week as well, and I am going to do a side by side comparison. I dont normally shoot video. My main interest in comparing the lenses is photo image quality between the STM and the USM...if thats the same, I think I will prefer this one for photos. I think I will also prefer it because of the metal mount ring as apposed to the STMs all plastic mount (Just personal pref)? All my other lenses are STM and they work great too. 10-18 Wide angle STM, 18-55TM (Kit), 35mm Macro STM. Cheers!

Love this lens! I was able to replace the 2 kit lenses my Canon Rebel T3i came with and now I just use this lens and my 50mm 1.8 lens. My pictures with this lens are tack sharp and I love how I cant hear the autofocus - very quiet! The perfect lens to take with for big family events, concerts, etc. If you want a good universal lens without spending a small fortune, this is the perfect lens.

If you have a crop sensor Canon DSLR, this lens is a must! Very sad to lose the ability to use it when I moved up from the Canon T3i/T4i to the full frame 6d. It allows you to get several different looks with photos and video that would normally not be impossible without a tripod. I was able to get a lot of work using this lens, if you have cable television I have a lot of clips, Commercials (Ronco), Documentaries (Near MIss) , News Casts (CNN, FOX, etc.) and even on The Smithsonian Channel. This lens has never let me down and should be the first you consider for an all around lens.

Initially when I first received the lens, I didnt realize that it was bigger than my other lens so my hoods didnt fit but I really love the lens! I received a STM and whenever the lens autofocuses, it take the CLEAREST photos even on my Canon Eos T6! Its way better than my standard 18-55mm that came with my DSLR. The lens beautifully focuses with no noise what so ever, only when my camera closes its shutter is the noise I hear, a huge plus everytime Im taking photos. This lens is for anyone honestly, even if youre starting out as you get comfortable with distance and good quality. I would like to mention that my lens however, does not allow for manual focuses even if I switch the manual focus button on, unless Im doing something wrong? I can still zoom in and stuff, the auto focus is amazing but I dont think the switch is necessary if i cant focus things my self. This is the only flaw Ive noticed, probably just not me unless you guys know whats wrong.

Week after buying Canon T1i camera I went to Mt St Helens National Park and realized how much I need extra zoom. So I ordered the new Canon 18-135IS. My first impressions are very positive: - The build quality is pretty decent. - The lens is relatively light and feels pretty balanced on the T1i body. - Front of the lens doesnt turn during auto focus which is a plus if you use a polarized filter. - AF is quick and very accurate - it easily finds focus even in dark conditions. - Image Stabilizer supports horizontal and vertical panning. - I think sharpness is comparable with the kit 18-55IS (looks like corners are a bit softer). - Zoom range is perfect for vacation/outdoor photography. - There is no zoom creep (so far). - Very smooth bokeh (background blurring) Few cons: - No zoom lock. - Doesnt have USM/full-time manual focus - this is the feature Id expect in the $500 lens. - Distortions on the wide end (18-24mm) - More CA than 18-55IS. P.S. Ive spent the last couple of weeks reading endless forum posts and reviews. Here are my notes about the similar/competing products: 1. Canon 55-250IS - My friend got this lens - its sharp but some shots have bad color saturation/contrast. He also told me that he needs to change lenses too often. 2. Canon 28-135 IS USM - sharp, has full-time manual focus, but the lens is quite big and heavy for T1i and has a zoom creep. 28mm is too much for the wide shots on the x1.6 cameras. 3. Sigma 18-125 OS HSM - good zoom range/color/price, relatively sharp. I almost bought this lens but then I noticed that almost every review mentions the constant background noise produced by the image stabilizer. Sometimes I use the camera for short videos so that was a deal breaker for me. 4. Sigma 18-200 - good zoom range/color/price, but too heavy. Sharpness is very inconsistent. Also not much extra zoom comparing to the 135mm. Overall I think this lens is a good choice for nonpro photographers looking for a multipurpose zoom lens.

I used this lens with my Canon 80 D on my last trip to Asia and it performed great. Its wide enough with just a enough zoom range for most shots you will encounter when on the go. All of my photos turned out sharp! My camera came with a 18-55 mm and a 55-250 mm which are nice but I did not want to change back and forth between the lens to get my shot so I bought the Canon EF-S 18-135mm and it turned out to be a great choice.

I like this lens. I replaced an old 18-85 with a flaky aperture, and I like the extra throw. The zoom has a nice feel -- neither too loose nor too tight. Having said this, I wish I had looked at the Sigma first -- I could have gone even longer.

I love this lens. Its my everyday lens when I dont want to carry a zoom. I use it with a Canon 70D and can leave it on the camera for street shots, portraits, birds or distant cityscapes. Its lightweight and not burdensome. Images are clear and colors are vibrant. For most of my work, I use an L lens, but this is one I definitely plan to keep in my bag for years to come. Its a must-have for any budget-minded photographer looking for an all-around default lens.

Bought lens for my uncle’s Cannon DSLR. Takes great pics (will load once I receive the pics). Since this was a white box item no box or manual was included (I did not realize this until after the fact) but lens is new and was bubble wrap well.
