I am new to photography but my observation regarding this lenses is that this lens is a good all around lens. The photos that I have taken are sharp. The lenses IS loose. If you are walking around with the lense on your camera you will need to hold the camera parallel to ground. The lense really needs a lock. I cant complain considering the price I paid.

This is a really versatile lens and is my go-to for trips where packing light is essential. I used this to shoot recently in Niagara Falls, Ontario and was really pleased with how it handled everything from low-light to behind-glass to close-ups and panoramas. It captures color as true-to-reality as any Canon lens (which is great, by the way!) and though it is a bit heavier than a standard kit lens, it isnt terribly noticeable. There is a little tiny bit of lens creep but its really not that bad either. Most people who are going to use this lens are looking for versatility without having to waste time with stopping to change lenses and thereby expose their camera body to dirt/dust. So, if that is you, dont get too wrapped up in the overly technical reviews. This is definitely the lens for you!

Mine came in today (3-18-14) and have walked around with it and am very pleased with it. Pics are good and sharp, color is very good with it. Would recommend this to anyone who wants a good walking around lens. You wont be disappointed if you buy it. Bought mine used and it was in great shape, clean glass and functioned great.

Canon EF-S 18-135mm IS is an affordable all purpose lens designed especially for Canon beginner digital SLR camera users. The built quality are very similar to Canon Rebel XS, XSi and T1i body. It does not feel heavy and too long. Focal length of 18-135mm (equivalent to 29-216mm) is very versatile. It is wide enough for indoor or long enough for outdoor. There is no USM (ultra sonic motor) in the lens, so it will make a a bit of noise when the lens auto focus is activated. AF is moderately fast and very good for everyday use. Image quality is very good relative to consumer grade lens, it is certainly not as good as expensive high grade Canon L lenses. Bokeh is round and quite pleasing. Alternative lenses are * Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Standard Zoom Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras which has longer reach but also more expensive and longer. * Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras which is not wide, compatible to full frame Canon body and has USM. Built quality of this lens is better, but image quality is average. Check out full size image samples at my website. Look for my web address by viewing my profile. Thanks for reading.

I shoot with mostly primes but wanted something with good IS and a good zoom range as i am starting into much more video recording these days. I am very impressed with this lens IS system. I can shoot stills up to 1/4 of a second and get some great, smooth handheld video shots. I also shoot in very well lit environments which is a must for this lens. It performs poorly in low light. It is a sharp lens. Nothing compared to most of my primes but very acceptable for a kit lens. My biggest complaint is the lens distortion, but this is not a huge deal because it is easily fixed in post. I purchased this lens used which i thought was a fantastic deal. I would really have to think hard if it was worth it to have to pay the price of a new one.
