This lens has an amazing price-to-quality ratio! I was tempted to spend 4x more on the "L" version but weeks of research I decided to give this one a try - no regrets. For the cons, this lens produces a decent bokeh, though a little harsher than the "L". If you can live with that and a slightly slower f/ naturally, then you wont look back. I can highly recommend it. Other than of course the price difference, the biggest plus for this lens is its weight. Do not downplay the weight factor. Nobody sane enjoys carrying heavy gear during hikes or street photography. This lens is quiet, focuses very quickly, produces sharp photos wide open and its affordable. Bravo Canon!

This lens is a real gem. I used to own the Canon 35L, and I can tell you that this lens is better in every way except for max aperture and build quality. The build quality isnt as good as the L, but at half the price you can buy another one if you manage to break it. The smaller size and weight relative to the L make it a much better choice for travel and street photography.

This is a fantastic lens! I have been using it for low light stills and just shot some hand-held video tonight with the 5D3. The IS really is excellent! I loved the results so much that I just ordered the 24mm f2.8 IS lens as well. I have been shooting a fair amount of live music in dark clubs and this lens rocks for stills and video as well. With that and my 85mm f1.8 I am pretty well covered for most of those situations. I highly recommend it! The 35mm was always my favorite focal length followed by the 85. Happy shooting!

Great lens. My only complaint is that the auto-focus can get wonky at times. I dont use the AF much, but when I do, I need to be ready for a 50/50 experience. That said, its been a really solid base lens, since I picked it up. Its been everywhere with me, and has kept quality, despite a lot of travel usage in rough terrain.

This is s a super fast lens with nice, sharp images. The bokeh is also nice for a moderately-priced lens. My favorite use is for video though. It has IS so you actually get nice, steady shots without a Glidecam or tripod. Its great for low-light indoor video. Im very pleased with it so far! (I shoot with a Canon 5d Mark III - my other lenses are 24-70 f/2.8 L, 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II, 50mm 1.4, 100mm f/2.8 L Macro).

This Lens is amazing. Ive been using ir for a copule of months and its the best purschase that Ive Made. The 35mm lets you capture a wide angle of the sceen without deforming what you ser, AND the f/2 aperture lets you capture all the brightness of the ambience without the need of a high ISO. I really recomend this lens over the 50mm because It lets you get closer to what you are photographing.

Quality Canon lens. Great resolution. Daughter taking baby pictures and may need 28mm to expand field of view to get more of baby. Like prime lenses since they are usually faster and physically lighter than their zoom counterparts. You may need only one or two, like the 28mm and 35mm if most of your photos are in your home. After year one, a zoom may be more handy as baby becomes more mobile.

I bought the lens and couldnt wait to try it. I get it and it just didnt seem new. As I analyzed it more, there were so many dust pieces inside the lens lid, around the edges, scratches, smudges, worn out words/numbers on side, color wasnt "new black" ... I was disappointed. It was sorta "clean" but obviously used.

There are many reviews by people who know substantially more than I do about lenses, go read those. My simple review is, I went from being very disappointed with my T5i with two "kit" lenses to loving it again by using this as my primary lens.
