I was replacing the older version of the 24-70 and really torn about buying a new lens or spending the $1000 to repair. I decided to buy the new one because it is a bit lighter and I wanted the extra sharpness. I use this and the 70-200 2.8 as my workhorse lenses. And this lens is sharp. It is excellent for product shots and with portraits you will see every pore if you shoot correctly. I love it. It is a step or two up from the older canon 24-70 2.8. I do of course wish it had IS, especially at this cost. But if you are in the range of buying this thing wit performs a bit better than expected.

The first copy I received had an auto focus problem, manual focusing worked fine. Amazons exchange lens was exactly what I have come to expect of Canon lenses. Absolutely tack sharp, nice bokeh, and the focusing ring is perfect, neither too stiff nor too loose. I also own the big brother, the 70-200L USM and the 70-200 only very slightly out performs its little brother in stunning sharpness, color rendition and minimal chromatic aberration. My only gripe about the 24-70 is the horrible lens bag they provide with the lens, it has a leather bottom and cloth sides, NOTHING like the professional lens protector shipped with the 70-200L USM. Canon lenses retain their value, particularly the "L" series. Buy it, youll never regret it if you are in the same league the lens is.

This item is durable! Feels excellent when holding it. A little on the heavy side but is as expected. Liked how it was shipped the lens was protected in case of a drop. Would recommend buying from here

In short, this may have been my best investment as an amateur photographer and filmmaker. This lovely bit of glass captures great color, and the wide aperture works wonders in low-light situations. The range of its focal length gives me plenty of options when shooting without having to swap out lenses (something I hate to do when Im just out for a leisurely stroll and shoot), and the focus ring has a lot of travel, allowing for much easier focusing than lower-end lenses. The weight of this thing is its gift, and its curse. It feels solid and sturdy enough to take a mortar shell, which is comforting. On the other hand, when snapped onto an equally hefty body, such as my 6D, it becomes a challenge to lug around without a nice strap. It also presents balancing issues when placed on any cheap steadicam; a common sight on amateur film shoots. If youre looking to step up your gear, I would highly suggest starting with some nice glass like this.

I have spent a fortune on prime lenses. If I had purchased this lens first, I would have not purchased several of them. This astro shot was taken by combining many 70mm images into one. Shot at 2.8. with a little imagination, this is a very versatile lens.

Using a Canon Mark III, I used the Tamron 28-75 for years. I upgraded to this one and am amazed by the clarity and quality difference. I was spoiled with the Canon 70-200M 2.8 L-lens, where eyelashes and everything are crisp and and in focus, and I wanted a high quality everyday lens that could match the quality. This did not disappoint.

Absolutely the best lens Ive ever used. Thing is super fast and clear and I love the fact that I can use it in a Gym and actually capture Volleyball action pics at a very low ISO. If you are looking at this lens compared to an off brand Id recommend this one every time..

What can you say about this lens that has not already been said? Perfect range for portraits and wide enough at 24mm for most landscapes. Even handheld at f/2.8 I get really sharp shots.

My wife and I operate a photo/video business. We originally owned the 24-70 version 1, but found we never used it in professional scenarios due to lackluster sharpness when comparing to our primes. We sold it, and were dithering about which prime lens to buy next when this lens was released. After some initial reviews (and with Amazon Primes excellent return policy) we decided to take a chance on this lens. WOW, what a difference! It holds its own against our prime lenses. The sharpness and color saturation is just amazing. This has become our go-to lens, not just for a great walk-around lens, but in most professional scenarios as well.

I love this lens. It is fast. The f2.8 is a great help and as someone who uses primarily prime lenses, the zoom feature on this lens is very useful when shooting wedding and fluid events. Images are sharp and crisp, focusing is fast and quiet. I really enjoy using the 24mm length for wide angle and dramatic shots.
