Living on the Arctic Ocean in Northern Alaska is cool, heck its down right COLD! I wanted to be able to stay inside my car shooting polar bears from a distance and the safety of that car. Problem solved. This lens gets me right in there and much more close than I was! :) I use it in conjunction with my Canon 5D M3 and the 70-200mm 2.8 II. The 3rd version has better optics and stabilization than the previous version. This is what the Canon rep told me when I called... My thought was Id save a little money buy buying the 2nd version but after talking with him and also thinking about my already amazing system, I thought why skimp and put Sams Club tires on my sweet ass corvette.... I mean right?!?! Dont get the 2nd version of this extender, spend the extra 30 or 50 and get the updated stuff, especially if your already shooting with great stuff... this is not a ploy NOT to shop at Sams, heck I have a membership there... ;) Im just saying... keep the corvettes in nice tires. Youll thank me later. ;)

This extender doubles the mm of any lens for which it is designed. When used with more recent Canon cameras automatic focus is completely functional. However, it is helpful to make a quick manual partial focus. I have an EOS 50D which will not auto focus using this extender. However auto focus works with my EOS D77. I have this and the EF 1.4 III extender and the two convert 1 lens to 3 lenses with every lens for which they are designed.

This extender adds a lot of flexibility for a reasonable price. I use it with a T2i Rebel and a 70-200mm f2.8/L lens. The combination adds enough reach for wildlife and sports photos where you need to reach out farther without much degradation of photo quality; certainly not enough to warrant spending three times the price for another lens. The autofocus works just fine, but then again the original lens is a 2.8 non-IS, so thats to be expected. What Im most pleasantly surprised by is the low light performance. All in all its a nice add on, one I absolutely recommended.

This is a very well designed and built teleconverter. What you would expect given the Canon brand. I purchased it to use with my 70-200mm f2.8 L zoom lens and use it with a 5D Mk III. I am very happy with it. I will purchase 3rd party products for my camera but I insist on the best lenses I can afford. For my purposes I can accept the max 5.6 aperture this allows. You must weigh the pluses and minuses of using this teleconverter but for me it was the right choice.

I began wondering about this product when I purchased the 70-200 f2.8. I absolutely love that lens. But I found that, occasionally, I might like to get a long distance shot, so thats where this product steps in. Originally, I had considered buying the 100-400, but I decided against it, since I found out that the 70-200 f2.8 is rated much higher than the 100-400 and since the addition of the 2x extender Mk iii to the 70-200 f2.8 Mk ii wont compromise significantly neither image quality, nor autofocus. Now, I have to say that they were totally right. I couldnt be more satisfied with this product. It pairs extremely well with my 70-200 f2.8 Mkii. Images are beautiful and sharp and autofocus isnt noticeably affected. Highly recommended.

I bought this extender with the Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6L lens, which is listed as a compatible match. It does work, and compared to the $14k for an 800mm lens I cant complain. But Canon should really be a little more clear in their description of what they mean by "compatible". The auto focus does not work when looking through the viewfinder, but it does work in Live Mode, which I find very odd. I have the set mounted on a T2i (550D). Anyway, so long as you are prepared to manually focus on your subjects, this is a very cost effective way to get the long reach for wildlife shots, etc. Others have already commented on the quality, which for a novice like me, I did not notice any quality degredation from adding the extender From Canons support website for those considering this extender: "If an Extender (sold separately) is attached and the maximum aperture of the lens is f/5.6 or smaller (larger f/number), AF will not be possible (except Live mode/u Live mode AF)." So why couldnt they print this in the product description? And I still dont get why AF will work in Live Mode, but not otherwise--if anyone knows the reason Id love to hear it :)

I have a Canon 70-200 2.8 II and I picked this up so I could double my range while still enjoying image stabilization. It works perfectly in combination with that lens and now I have the best of both worlds.

I really had my doubts about this extender, now I don’t know how I lived without it. My 70-200mm suddenly becomes a 400mm and I’m not really giving up anything other than going from f2.8 to f5.6 but that easily compensated with speed or ISO. I’m heading out in the morning to the local zoo, can’t wait. A very inexpensive way to own a 400mm lens. Buy this you’ll love it.

This is exactly what the reviews said it would be. This is a great bargain if you have an L rated telephoto. Check to make sure your telephoto qualifies for use on this product. I use it with my 70-200mm L IS lens and it produces very good images. Unlike previous tele extenders, this one produces very good images. I have a few hanging on my wall. My images are tack sharp showing very good detail as long as you dont have to do too much cropping. Cropping does compress but the clarity is retained. I highly recommend.

I own the Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS Lens. Not the version II. The original lens. I also own the 1.4x teleconverter version 1 also. I bought this for bird photography because the 1.4x was not quite close enough to suit me on the smaller birds. My blind is set up at a fixed distance so its pretty predictable how much telephoto power I will need. I am shooting with at Canon 7D Mark II. The effective focal length with this converter on a 1.6 crop camera is 1600mm. Very, very nice. Unlike other reviewers I found this teleconverter to be the equal of the 1.4x (at least version 1). I cant imagine it being much sharper. Please see the full frame dove shot and the 1to1 crop. You can see the full frame uncropped full resolution image at flickr.com/photos/davidpitts/18102024249/sizes/l If you need the reach and you have a Canon long prime lens, Im not sure how you can go wrong. I should add here that I spent considerable time working with Canons AF Microadjust feature for this combination of 2x converter and lens. It made a significant difference in sharpness. If you have this feature on your camera you should do this for every lens.
