AWESOME lens!! I bought this lens (EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS ll USM) for my Canon 70D to take pictures of my many travels and wildlife while at home in the country. I took it to an airshow for my first outing and filmed fighter jets whizzing by at over 1000 mph using only handheld option at full zoom. Pictures were clear but not crystal clear on a cropped image in post production. (I repeat 1000mph/handheld! ......and I wasnt shooting in shutter priority - oops - so probably my fault!) Still took VERY high quality pictures though! Extremely good pics on static displays with handheld. Love the 3 stabilization options. I used the panning stabilization at the air show and worked great! Very, VERY nice!!! Love that feature! (It stabilizes the object as you are panning instead of bouncing all over) Although this lens is heavy, it was not burdensome at all. (Im a 65 yr old woman) I actually like the weight (ok, except when backpacking it through the desert). I felt it helped to keep the camera on mark. I noticed quite a few people with this lens at the airshow. (I did extensive research before purchase and didnt find any negative reviews!) I then took it to Death Valley in California with occasional high winds and sand. No problems. Good seals. Bundles features - The hood is lined (flocked) and very nice with the slide opening to manipulate filter. You cannot zoom while lens hood is reversed. It covers the zoom ring. The hood has to be reversed or off to fit in case. Now about the filters. It will NOT focus (auto or manual) with dark filter (CP or ND) (too low light) and barely with UV. The filters are a waste. Of course they are cheap glass in a bundle package. Picture quality was so much better without the filters. They may work better on 100mm. I have not tried them that way yet. The case is very nice also. It comes with a thin strap also has a belt loop. (I put on a padded camera strap.) The tripod ring is not the one in the picture. It is the standard one that comes with the lens (much better) that has 2 knobs - one for ability to move around lens, one to remove the flat tripod attachment and leave on tripod. The ring stays on lens. The monopod is nice quality (I already had one) but you really need a tripod with this lens. Monopod helps with weight but not movement issues. I didnt try the remote control. I already had one. They are nice to decrease camera shake. I have been looking for more than 2 years for a lens like this that was a little more affordable. I almost got the last model (IS USM not the IS ll USM) and Im glad I paid a little more for this one. Sooooo much better. I like the rotating zoom not the slide zoom anyway. I would definitely buy this lens again. It was well worth the money!

Having owned the original 100-400 lens and wanting a better version of it I read the Amazon reviews and decided to take a chance and buy the new version. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that this Version ll is not only better but a whole lot better than the original. The push-pull zoom is gone in favor of a quarter-turn zoom (although you can still push-pull if you want to). This lens can focus down to under 1 meter so flowers, insects and the usual macro subjects are possible. But the real beauty of this lens is the image quality which is simply outstanding and competitive with my prime lenses. Hard to believe with a zoom lens but the images speak for themselves. Add its smooth zoom range and well behaved image stabilization system to all that and, except for having a wide-angle capability, you have a fine walk-around, ready-for-anything lens. This lens is heavier than the original 100-400 and is also heavier than a Canon 300mm, f/4 but if you can handle that you wont regret buying this one. I certainly dont.

First of all the lense and accessories are exactly as advertised. VERY FORTUNATELY the lense arrived in good shape. I say that because this was aguably the worst job of packing for shipment Ive had the displeasure of viewing. The external box was far to large in height for the lense and accessories and the only additional padding was a large sheet of packing paper that did NOTHING to keep the lense container (fortunately padded internally by Canon) from moving if the box was flipped. Since there were to "This side up" or "Fragile" on the box to add a layer of caution, I can only say Digital Goja was luckier than they deserve.

Everything has worked out better than expected. I had used a Sigma 120-400mm for the past 6 years, which worked very well with my T2i. After upgrading to a 6D, I found the Sigma to be lacking on the full frame 6D... edges were soft, as were the colors. The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM is sharper, especially around the edges, and the colors are GREAT. This lens feels like a big step up from the Sigma, and I love the extra 20mm on the wide side. I have taken several hundred shots, under mostly darker conditions, and have been very pleased with the results. The weight is not an issue for me, but it may be for some. The focusing works faster than what I expected. The only issue I have with this bundled package was that the battery in the remote was dead on arrival, so I have no clue to how well the remote works at this time. Im very happy with my purchase!

I have rented the Canon EF 100-400mm version I and II for gigs over the past two years. I had to bite the bullet after starting to rack up the rental bill, and I doubt I will have any regrets. The version II is unbelievable. No more telescoping push/pull zoom... and the image quality is out of this world. This lens is tic tac sharp and keeps up with my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8. The IS is another thing of beauty... I can literally hand hold at 400mm at 1/60th of second and not have any camera shake. I use this lens primarily for concerts where they only allow me to shoot in specific doorways, and I am usually between 300-400mm, and shooting at 1/200th to 1/320th with a 6400 ISO. I am excited to give this lens a whirl at some vintage car races. I have attached two shots, one with, and one with out IS. Both handheld at f/5.6, 1/60th and 3200 ISO, and taken straight out of the camera, no editing, other than the crop.

This lense is my new goto lens for my Canon 80D. I love it more than any of my other lenses. The Altura Backpack fits my camera body, this 100-400mm zoom lens, my 18-55mm lens, my 75-300mm lens, all the filters and hoods for this lens. The filter holder packet is great too. The CPL filter I had to take off because it would not allow good focus. It has a double image for some reason, so I only use the other two filters in this combination. The 80D body that I have has no problem adjusting the light so not using the CPL filter is not a problem. The Sandisk memory card is not the best card on the market, but it works ok for what I use it for. This card is a U1 card, so I have ordered a U3 card to see if I can get some more FPSs out of my sports mode sequential shots. Overall, I love this lens and this backpack. All of my gear fits perfect in the backpack and the monopod is sturdy enough that I am not afraid the big lens and camera will fall off. The backpack also has a small zipper pocket on the outside so I can easily get to my other SD cards. The inner pocket fits the charger and batteries, and there is also another pocket that will fit an IPAD. I dont use an Ipad, but if I ever do, I know there will be a place for me to put it. Great package to be bundled with. I have not used any of the cleaning supplies, but they will definitely come in handy when I need them. Great bundle whoever put it together.

I have had this for 3 days now, and I am so thankful already. The reviews that you have read will give you more than enough accurate information, including the "weight" of the lens. Here are a few things I can confirm. 1. Weight: It is a much heavier lens than anything I have been use to in the past, but I am embracing the weight, as the quality difference in my photos has been greatly improved. 2. Buyers Remorse: I was really concerned that I would regret purchasing this lens at $2k, and then have buyers remorse. That has not happened. In fact, one review I read said, that this lens will inspire you to want to get out more and take more photos. I must agree! 3. Quality of photos: The improved quality in the photos is substantial. See the photos I have taken in my backyard over the past couple of days. These photos were taken with my Canon T6i. 4. Extra Gear: The extra gear is a really nice addition for the price. Again, I am very pleased with this lens, and looking forward to years of enjoyment and improved photo quality.

Took this lens on a wildlife shoot 2 days after receiving. Replacement for my Tamron 150-600mm. Very pleased with this canon lenses image quality. We also have the Canon 100-400L version 1 and initial reviews showed even better quality than the version 1. Shooting on a Canon 7D MkII body. I was concerned with this package deal that the lens was a international copy without a 1 year warranty not a USA model with the 1 year warranty. I contacted Digital Goja via email and they replied very quickly stating they were an authorized Canon dealer and this lens is a USA model and does have a 1 year warranty. Good customer service wins repeat business. Thank again Greg

The Canon EF 100-400 L ISII is amazing. However, the accessories provided by Digital Goja in the kit dont match up. In particular, the filters are of not value for a lens of this quality and they didnt have any better filters when I contacted them about this issue. Also, the monopod they provided in the kit would likely break as soon as a lens of this weight was mounted on it (it has a small plastic quick release plate).

I had rented the earlier model 100-400mm lens several times, and always had trouble adjusting to the push-pull telescoping mechanism. Canon has eliminated that in this model in favor of the traditional rotating ring, and its much more user friendly. You can adjust the friction of the telescoping mechanism via a ring, labelled "smooth - tight" inserted just above the knurled rubber telescoping area. At the tightest setting it keeps the lens from drifting while youre carrying it around. At the smoothest setting, with the least amount of friction, it moves easily but may be subject to a bit too much drift while youre on the move. The lens hood has a small notched out area with a cover that you can slide back to reach in and rotate a CPL filter - a very handy feature. The lens quickly and efficiently locks focus whether youre in One Shot, AI Focus or AI Servo modes. It does take some practice to hold this lens steady when fully extended to 400mm. I use the High Speed Continuous mode to shoot a burst of images when shooting fully extended, to improve the chances of achieving good focus. Ive been taking it out on my walks to shoot birds and small animals, in preparation for an upcoming African safari trip. Im really enjoying having a lens with such a long reach in my arsenal of lenses ! Update after African Safari: I absolutely adore this lens! It was always able to lock focus quickly, even in fairly low light conditions during our morning game drives that started before the sun rose. I used it with a Grizzly bean bag to steady it on the top ledge of the safari vehicle, and I achieved crisp focus over and over. I usually set the camera in High Speed Continuous mode and fired off a burst of images. Now, after returning from our nearly 3 week safari with ~10,000 images, my biggest challenge is choosing the best from among a batch of very similar images - its a good problem to have :)
