AWESOME lens!! I bought this lens (EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS ll USM) for my Canon 70D to take pictures of my many travels and wildlife while at home in the country. I took it to an airshow for my first outing and filmed fighter jets whizzing by at over 1000 mph using only handheld option at full zoom. Pictures were clear but not crystal clear on a cropped image in post production. (I repeat 1000mph/handheld! ......and I wasnt shooting in shutter priority - oops - so probably my fault!) Still took VERY high quality pictures though! Extremely good pics on static displays with handheld. Love the 3 stabilization options. I used the panning stabilization at the air show and worked great! Very, VERY nice!!! Love that feature! (It stabilizes the object as you are panning instead of bouncing all over) Although this lens is heavy, it was not burdensome at all. (Im a 65 yr old woman) I actually like the weight (ok, except when backpacking it through the desert). I felt it helped to keep the camera on mark. I noticed quite a few people with this lens at the airshow. (I did extensive research before purchase and didnt find any negative reviews!) I then took it to Death Valley in California with occasional high winds and sand. No problems. Good seals. Bundles features - The hood is lined (flocked) and very nice with the slide opening to manipulate filter. You cannot zoom while lens hood is reversed. It covers the zoom ring. The hood has to be reversed or off to fit in case. Now about the filters. It will NOT focus (auto or manual) with dark filter (CP or ND) (too low light) and barely with UV. The filters are a waste. Of course they are cheap glass in a bundle package. Picture quality was so much better without the filters. They may work better on 100mm. I have not tried them that way yet. The case is very nice also. It comes with a thin strap also has a belt loop. (I put on a padded camera strap.) The tripod ring is not the one in the picture. It is the standard one that comes with the lens (much better) that has 2 knobs - one for ability to move around lens, one to remove the flat tripod attachment and leave on tripod. The ring stays on lens. The monopod is nice quality (I already had one) but you really need a tripod with this lens. Monopod helps with weight but not movement issues. I didnt try the remote control. I already had one. They are nice to decrease camera shake. I have been looking for more than 2 years for a lens like this that was a little more affordable. I almost got the last model (IS USM not the IS ll USM) and Im glad I paid a little more for this one. Sooooo much better. I like the rotating zoom not the slide zoom anyway. I would definitely buy this lens again. It was well worth the money!
