I have had this extender for a couple of weeks, using it on a limited basis. I have only used it on a Canon 7D MkII with the Canon 100-400 USM II. My experience has been that you must have good light. Most of my photography is early morning and late evening and without a tripod. I have not been able to get clear and sharp photos with it under these conditions. Maybe I just haven’t leaned to use it effectively yet; I’ve never used one before. But so far for me, I’ve been disappointed with the outcome. Will keep experimenting.

Picked up the latest 1.4x to test on my 70-200mm F/4 IS. Overall, the halving of light (going from 4.0 to 5.6 aperture) is too much for me, when Id already compromised on light by buying the F4 instead of the 70-200 F2.8, which might be able to handle the reduction in light more adequately. My lens at least has image stabilization, I cant imagine using such an expensive extender on the plain F4 without IS. Extra zoom = extra shaking from narrow angle and the loss of light would require a slower shutter speed adding shake yet again. The image quality is okay, maybe a small bit better than if you simply took a 70-200 shot without the extender and cropped it to the exact same angle... though each time you want that bit of extra reach, pulling out an extender, unscrewing two caps, taking my main lens off, screwing the extender in and then screwing lens back onto it often seemed like a bit too much hassle most of the time when the payoff was so small. If the price was half to two-thirds of current price, Id probably rate 5 stars, particularly for F2.8 lense use. At its exorbinate canon gouge price for such a small piece of glass with so many drawbacks for the lens I tested it on, I can only rate it 3 stars and advise renting one to try with your lens before purchase.
