Having used GodoxFlashpoint lights professionally for more than 4 years I can say they have come a long way. I’m putting aside the Profoto who did it first argument and just looking at the light and accessories kit itself. The good: Master controls for other lights is the best most responsive yet. The screen is crisp and things are less vague when changing powers or groups. Battery life is incredible. 4 day wedding and it still had one bar at the end of it. (1/4 power at most) The new usb c charger is a great direction and I can charge the battery with USB power banks now too! The round head creates a natural look with no modifiers and when combined with the grid can make perfect soft directional light. The built in magnets makes no need to add heavy mag grip accessories. The not the best: No multi user for when I shoot with other photographers and want to share lights. The CTO gel that is supplied is more green than anything. (Cut my own out). The labels on the spinning dial sometimes rotate with the button making this $300 kit seem like a $50 flash. Overall: This is the best flash yet. Everyone wants perfection for the lowest cost but the fact that you can buy a round head flash this powerful for less than $300 is insane. Godox I know will improve it. Profoto will be the better made. But who cares. Buy what you want and can afford. Get off the photo blog comment sections and take some nice photos.

Small, light-weight flash! I was actually quite surprised how light it is. Worked great with my Nikon. Fast recycle is very nice. Light quality looks great! Overall, Im very pleased with the V1. I might get rid of my 3 Nikon flashes now!? I have a Flashpoint R2 transmitter but couldnt get it to work with the V1 off camera, so that was a bummer. Not sure how useful the AK-R1 set will be. The grid didnt do much, I suppose I expected more. I look forward to using the color correction filters, however. Being able to add accessories is super easy with the magnetic connection. I think the barn doors will be the most useful item. Godox now needs to make a V1 compatible S-type bracket Bowens Mount holder.

Only downside is it doesnt fit in the Bowens speedlight mount. Everything else is awesome. Just buy it. But dont get rid of your old flashes

Received it early (5/14/2019). The V1 is amazing. It will make shooting events a breeze.

The flash is solid, coming from using Canons 600EX RT I can say that it is slightly less powerful, but the circular head is nice, I also dig the magnetic attachments. I do wish that it took AA batteries, right now you cant find their VB-26 batteries as they are on "pre-order" so apparently if you want another battery you have to buy the flash. I am sure there will be plenty on the market soon though.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the v860ii was the master mode interface was slow to navigate because you had to scroll between groups. This is completely solved in the v1 as you have dedicated group buttons, and for event shooters this alone may be worth buying one. This is the most valuable improvement to me. The modeling light is a great benefit as well, it has a usable brightness and can also be left on to help assist focus in very low light situations, like dark wedding reception dance floors, or sparkler exits at weddings. Or you can just use it as a continuous light source for ring shots and other things, very useful. The round head is a double edged sword; you get a nicer spill pattern but you cant use your bowens S brackets anymore, need the special accessory kit to have correctly shaped gels and modifiers, and you can in some cases lose effective power output because of the wider spread of light when bouncing flash compared to the V860ii. The actual output is the same through a softbox where the light is gathered though, so the flash is not putting out less light, its just spreading it more, but it still affects how much light you can get when bouncing flash, especially in taller ceiling spaces, regardless of the zoom level set on the flash. The advantages outweigh this con though. Having TCM saves a lot of time finding a good manual power setting when moving between spaces. Awesome feature. The step backward compared to the v860ii is power adjustment when using it as a single, non master mode flash. On the V860iis you could use the wheel to make power adjustments instantly without having to press anything else first which was very convenient. On the V1 you need to first press the +/- button and then use the wheel or touch pad. It takes time getting used to if youre used to the v860iis where you did not have to press anything. Also the wheel only goes in 1/10th power increments instead of 1/3rd and there at this time is no way to set it to use 1/3rd stop increments. You can use the touch pad to go up and down in full stops, but I miss having a quick way to make 1/3rd stop adjustments as 1/10ths are not necessary most of the time.
