I’ve been a massive remote speedlights user since the year 2008. So I had very high expectations from this flash but unfortunately, I can’t say this thing is great. It’s just ok. And here’s why. 1, It’s stupid but it is. The control dial has a bottom click. Which I pressed with my FOREHEAD like 15 times during the 3-hour reception shoot. And this is how itll ruin your work. On-camera mode: The accidental forehead click changes the mode to stroboscope (RPT) which I honestly think no one actually use. If its in exposure correction mode, the accidental forehead click dials down the power output of the flash. The only way to avoid it, is after every time you changed the power output, select zoom function where the bottom dial click has no effect. Remote control mode: Accidental forehead click changes the mode to stroboscope (RPT). If one group is highlighted, the forehead click dials down the power output for the group. The only way not to change anything due to this flaw is to highlight the group you NOT use, after each adjustment you made. It’s horrible. 2. The dial itself also wobbles, very cheap feeling. Perhaps its the reason why the dial being clicked too easily and accidentally. 3. The LCD backlight doesn’t turn on when you turn on your camera backlight. So basically if you’re shooting in a dim light as I do, you have 2 options: 1) turn the flash backlight on by pressing any button on it (and changing a setting by doing that), 2) keep the backlight on the flash always on which is way too bright for a dim light environment and you can’t change it 4. The plastic surface got scratches after 1 travel in a bag with another flash. Overall it’s a good flash which does the job. The remote control on previous versions was HORRIBLE where you had to press like 4 buttons and rotate 1 dial to make a slight change. This version is a step forward from v860ii but still, it’s so far behind the genuine manufacturer’s remote control design (Nikon in my case)

I am amazed at how good this Godox V1 flash is. I replaced my Nikon SB 900 because I wanted a strobe that I could incorporate with my Flashpoint AD600 pro and AD 360 lights. It is so simple to control all these lights with the r2 controller. The output is consistent and the color is good. The Li-ion battery recycles last and lasts a long time. The TTL function has to be dialed down -.7 or -1 stops for best out put, but the quality of light is very nice. The AK accessory kit for the flash is a must get and also very adffordable.

We purchased this to supplement our aging SB700s and did not want to spend $600+ for an SB910. We are thrilled with our decision! This light works absolutely flawlessly on our Nikon 810 and Nikon 700. It is very well-built and even has a clever system which uses magnets to attach accessories ( we also purchased the accessory package ) So no more lost diffusers, etc. We also love the Li-Ion battery which is good for 400-500 flashes, but havent figured out how to order an additional one yet. Again, we are very, very pleased with this light!

So far I like this flash much better than my Nikon SB900 but that’s based on very limited use. I e only had it about a week. I really like the circular flash head and the ease of the controls. I’m still learning the ins and outs on how to setup the flash and use with my other lightheads. This product is of great value in comparison to the Nikon SB900s. I do plan to purchase another V1 in the coming weeks to replace my SB900s.

This flash unit provides more flashes than you’d expect! I photographed a 2 hour event and still had 80% available. No need for AA batteries. My only gripe is that the mode dial is easy to change by accident if your face/forehead should meet the back of the unit. So the work around is that you have to pay attention to the

Definitely a great update with the round head compared to the previous rectangular version. With a slightly fast recycle time.
