I got this to replace my D60. I really wanted the D5100 but couldnt afford it. It has all of the basic features I wanted but is missing the additional resolution of the D5100, 14.2 Meg vs 16.2 meg, and the adjustable screen which is OK. The most important thing to me is that it uses all of my lenses and attachments I had for the D60 and uses them as well or better than the D60. Its a very nice camera. It takes very nice HD video. It is limited to 10 minutes but when you think about it thats a pretty long video. Im glad I bought it!

I had a D5000 but screen went black after 2 years and that was pure disappointment . Didnt want to spend $600-700 again so settled for a cheaper model since this has lots less options . But I never used all the options on the D5000 anyway and the D3100 has plenty options to take very nice pictures . Lens, battery and accessories were interchangeable so this helped a lot . Pictures still turn out beautiful since the same lens is being used . If your not a professional photographer then this works great without the extra expense .

I bought this as a replacement for a Nikon D70 that finally quit working. It was actually a gift replacement which was for my grandson. He loves the camera and it works with his lenses. He particularly likes the movie capabilities and we just returned from a winter photo trip to Yellowstone where it performed quite well. We just wish that it had exposure bracketing capabilities for high dynamic range scenes. Other than that, it works quite well and it was a great price as a used camera purchase from an Amazon Merchant.

for the price this camera is very good. I was quite surprised by how fast the auto focus is compared to my D 3000. I recently shot panning pictures and the autofocus worked quite well for this type of tricky photography. the frame rates per second are a little slow, but I knew that before purchasing the camera.a lot of the features and buttons are more intuitive to this camera than my d3000. the autofocus speed in the Live View is a little slow, however I do not use that feature it uses a lot more battery power.I have not used the video mode, because I do not shoot much video and that was not with the camera was purchased for.this camera is pure Nikon quality. it is not as fast or have quite as many fancy features as the professional line cameras, however if you were on a budget and you know how to use a camera thoroughly, this camera can do all that the intermediate cameras can do.this camera uses all of my prior Nikon mounting lenses, which is a great feature of Nikon. would I rather have a d610 or D 7200 yes, but I dont have the 1500 to 2000 dollar budget. this camera body was well worth the $233.00.thus I now have two functioning camera Bonnie that will get me through well I save my money for the more expensive Pro models. Also, Amazon shipping was great and I received the camera within 2 days.

An excellent, simple to use camera for a beginner, or a great lightweight backup camera for the advanced amateur or pro photographer! Im using this camera as a lightweight backup to my D300 and D700. Great camera when I dont want to carry the extra weight of the pro cameras. A couple caveats about the D3100 (I would have given the camera five stars otherwise). 1) It will only autofocus with the newer AF-S type lenses that have a built in motor. The older AF-D (screwdriver type) will work but wont autofocus. (There is a very useful rangefinder focus aid available in the menu options if you use manual focus). 2) For some reason Nikon removed the wireless remote capability from this camera. A little annoying but not a big deal because there are aftermarket options available if you need this feature. The D3100 is no longer manufactured. The current model in this class is the D3300.

I had fallen in love with my D3100 and about the time my grandson arrived, my camera died. I thought about upgrading, but finally decided that I really didnt want any more bells and whistles. I loved the D3100, so why not stick with what I know? Havent used it a lot, but brought it along on a visit to Medieval Times. The show was spectacular, but not terribly camera friendly. Even so, got some pretty good shots. Very happy with the purchase.

Poorly packaged and although it said it came with a battery & charger, mine did not come with either one. I was at least expecting a battery in there. Scratched up. I dont know if its from being used or from how poorly packaged it was lol. I should expect that with free shipping, though. It has no SD card, but thats cool. Obviously it came with no lens, I knew that before I purchased. It looks pretty beat and used up. At least it came with a strap though lmao I feel like I got what I paid for though not gonna lie.

This is my first d/SLR. So far, Ive been very happy with my photographic results. The on-board RAW editing and video trimming reduce the amount of housekeeping Id normally do in post on a desktop. WB is the only feature I have set to Auto and its very accurate in most scenarios. I really have only two complaints: 1.) No manual mode for video (although, you can use a flashlight to adjust the exposure and then lock it.) 2.) The LCD screen lights up when Im adjusting exposure in the viewfinders HUD. Also, I feel it worthy to mention that this camera has survived outdoor shoots in torrential rain.

I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews. With all I read I finally settled on this camera doing the best for me. I have had it a couple of weeks now and I love it. I would rather have a camera body that has an auto focus motor, but my lenses both have it, so all works perfect for me. Maybe down the road I will upgrade this one too. I love it!!!
