Ive had mine for about a week. I shoot amateur Mixed Martial Arts, a fast paced sport that happens in bad lighting. For the past 5 years, I have been shooting with the Canon 1dMkIV, which has been a great camera for the purpose. I didnt move to the 1Dx classic, because it just wasnt a big enough step, not with a camera in hand that worked well. The MkII was a bigger step, and I took it. I am not going to repeat all the stats and figures. Those are great and they are all over the internet. I shot an event saturday night, and I have some images to share, if this site shows them accurately. The autofocus is accurate and fast, the color is great, and it works like a charm in the dark, through a chain link fence. These images were shot at ISO 5,000-8,000, 1/500th, f3.2 or f3.5 processed in lightroom, pretty much the same way I always process fight images. There is some noise reduction, but its not terribly strong. I wasnt making lab test images, these are real production images. This is what a flagship camera does, how it is really used. update: Time has passed, I am still shooting fights with my markII, its still a fantastic camera. The controls are basically the same as the earlier flagship canon I own, but there are differences. The menus are different and as with any camera, it takes time to learn to get the most out of it. Im getting there. I have added some new fight images as well as some from a raptor photoshoot.

So a lot of people looking at this camera are probably wondering just like I was if this or the Sony A7sii was the camera to get. I had the Sony A7sii for a year before I switched to Cannon and the 1dx and absolutely loved it. Personally, I loved the colors on it and new it like the back of my hand, but at the end of the day, the Cannon dx Markii is still king when it comes to video. Pros of Canon 1dx Markii compared to Sony A7sii: Video quality is hands down better ( once you shoot with it you will tell that image is much more detailed) Dual pixel autofocus, it is very amazing and allows me to keep my aperture super low without going out of focus on a subject. Lens choices (but Sony is slowly turning that around) 4k 60 frames - I use this for a lot of my shoots and love it Pros of Sony A7sii Right out of the gate the Sony A7sii is reasonably a lot cheaper and not only with the camera itself but there are other things you have to consider the cards are more expensive especially if you want to shoot 4k 60 you will need a C-fast card and a quality 128GB and cost $500.00 and up. Batteries are more expensive as well and you will also need a Card reader to transfer the footage to your computer. Next weight, now I know a lot of people love a heavier weight because it feels like its holding something solid but you have to think about the equipment you use with your camera. With the 1dx Mark ii you will need a better tripod, also its a little bit trickier to find the right stabilizer to hold the size of the camera, I recommend the Zhiyun Crane 2 + Gravity plate. Lastly the biggest negative is that there is no in camera stabilization. Just like how people who dont have dual pixel autofocus on their Sony A7sii dont know what they are missing same goes with Canon owners and the internal stabilization. Handheld shots are not as smooth even when you using the trick of using your strap on the back of your neck All in all what I will end with is this if you want the Canon 1dx Markii the quality is there but be prepared to invest more and have to think out how you do things a little bit more then with the Sony. I personally think its worth it and have seen my videos improve majorly but if you want to save some money the Sony A7sii is probably the way to go. I love both cameras a lot and have things that I respect about both. Both will get the job done Also when I walk through the airports with my 1dx mark ii I have never gotten so many compliments in my life about my camera, this never happened with my Sony and its funny because most of the people who come up to me dont strike me as people who know anything about cameras. I assume they think big camera = good camera.

Hands down the best DSLR you will ever use! I purchased the 1Dx Mark ii for its incredible image quality & high frame rates for both still images & video. It’s ability to take 120 FPS video at 1080p is totally legit & well worth the money! It’s also full frame, so the images this camera produces are unparalleled. This is a heavy camera, but it curtainly helps with image stabilization.

So far, love the camera. I will say after seeing the previous review I was nervous about possibly getting rocks. Looks like they got the issue figured out and I got what I ordered. I already had to send in the charger for warranty, as it only worked two or three times then completely quit. Other than that happy with the purchase!!

I photograph club and high school soccer. When my Canon 1DIV finally wore out, I upgraded to the the 1DX M-II and the low light performance is significantly better, which is important for the high school night games. Subsequently, I am able to shoot at a high shutter speed. I always shoot burst mode; images lost due to poor focus is about 2-3%, which is a little better than the 1DIV. Image quality and the depth to which I can crop is significantly better.

I always been a big fan of canon cameras till this camera broke after a year. An almost $6k camera shouldn’t break after a year , was showing error 20 and Is going cost $300 to fix it plus shipping if you have all that money to trow go head and get it.

Overall an excellent improvement on the 1DX. Features that I find most useful are: 1) All 61 focus points (21 X-type) can focus at f8 when one uses series III teleconverters on specific L-lenses. 2) Increase spread in AF points across the frame to aid in composition 3) Improved dynamic range below ISO 1600 and improved shadow noise. Below ISO 3200 there is virtually no noise and noise is well controlled up to ISO 12800. 4) AF sensors in red rather than black so they are easier to see 5) Improved buffer with 170 RAW files (from Canon) although I saw a video with Andy Rouse where he got over 200 RAW files before the buffer slowed down. WOW!! 6) DPAF for quick focusing on sensor (useful for stills and movies) in live view mode 7) Ability to view a level in the viewfinder at all times which is very useful for handheld photography. 8) Better focus tracking ability 9) 1.5% spot metering

Such a joy to use! The features and versatility of this 2016 product from Canon is a professional photographers dream! Even at this price, it has been worth every penny! This is not the camera for a beginning photographer though by any means. It has features and settings that are not needed for the Beginner and even Intermediate photographer. The less expensive Canon EOS cameras such as the T6i and others are much better cameras for those who do not do photography for a living and do not need a full-frame model.

When speed counts, there is no better camera body. Its faster than me. One of the unexpected features is its auto focus when in video mode. No more need to measure, plan and pull focus while shooting. Everything is automatic, or selectable with the touch screen. Simply brilliant.
