I bought the 40 inch model of this TV for our bedroom. It is a fantastic tv, once you adjust the default settings. Out of the box, the sharpness was turned up way too high, but lowering it improved the picture quality to what I expected. After my adjustments, the picture was stunning. My wife said it was like the people on the screen are in the room with you. The clarity is amazing. This tv features a setup routine similar to a smartphone. I was attracted to this TV due to the large sort-of triangle-shaped stand (the one pictured in the photo). I am not a fan of the new style of legs on other tvs, with tiny inverted v-shape legs at the corners of the bottom of the tv. They look unstable to me, and in a house with kids, I did not want to take a chance. So this tv was perfect, as the stand is very stable. I have no concerns about it falling over. The one thing I failed to realize about this tvs stand is how deep the stand is. Due to its depth from front to back, you need about 2 feet of space on whatever surface you place this tv on. Essentially, a one inch thick tv becomes 2 feet thick in terms of occupied space. In fact, the depth of the stand forces the tv to sit far out away from the wall. Overall, the picture quality of this tv is fantastic. Its unfortunate that the stand makes the tv occupy so much space, but then again, it is the style of stand for which I was looking. I would not hesitate to buy another if I had the need.

This has a very nice picture once toned down a bit from the overly saturated default settings a bit. It works great on over-the-air signals receiving even distant stations well. I was very disappointed that it lacks any wired audio output. The specs stated it had a headphone jack, it does not. Samsung appears to have cheapened out later versions by omitting the headphone jack. The speakers that are built in to this TV are horrible sound like tin cans on a string. Since the only audio output is optical, I had to buy a Prozar D/A to connect it to my stereo. You have to change the output mode to PCM from Dolby surround to make it work. In optical output mode the audio output level can not be controlled with the remote and I must use the remote for my stereo. This is poor design. There is a great remote control app on my iPhone MyTifi which allows my to access functions, like an on air program guide, that are not available with the included remote. Samsung also has an app called Smartview that allows you to view content from your iPhone on the TV, unfortunately that app does not work well and is close to useless. Do not loose the remote for this TV. The only controls on the TV are an On-Off switch. All other functionality requires the remote. To get it to work with remote control apps it must be attached to a local network that that is shared by the device with the remote app. This mut be set up using the accompanying IR remote before the remote app can work.

Stated outputs are not correct .. there is no blue tooth and no headphone facility or audio out except for optical output for external system. I checked both the site and E-Manual before I bought this TV as I needed an audio output for remote headphones.I will have to install an audio output myself. Response from Samsung support " Thank you for contacting Samsung. I see that there is no audio output jack is available on the TV: UN40M5300. I have checked the resources; thank you for bringing it to our notice that the model doesnt have audio out jack. I know an apology will not be sufficient, but we are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I have a 32’ Samsung television I purchased the day after Christmas. This past week the sound has been cutting out for about 1-2 minutes and comes back on. I called Samsung, the first gentleman Kevin gave me some tips to do when I got home, since I was at work. They did not work so I attempted to call Samsung back. I kept getting an automated message stating “your call can not be completed as dialed” so I went on live chat and they gave me a different number. The woman who answered put me on hold three different times, which was fine, but then at the end told me I needed to drive the TV to a repair shop, 50 minutes away mind you, and have them look at it. I told her this was unacceptable as I don’t have access to a car daily and I work 12 hour shifts Monday to Friday. She then told me a technician could come out, at some time to look at the tv. When I told her I would not be able to accomadate this as I don’t have many days off and I can’t wait for a technician to look at a 200$ tv, she said, that’s all we can offer, a technician will be out, then hung up on me. I attempted to call back the same number and again received the automated message that my call was not completed as dialed even though I had just used it. I have never had such terrible customer service and we buy many televisions and electronic devices. All I want is to return the device and get a new one sent or get a refund as this tv is not even 3 months old. So frustrating to think such a reputable company has such poor customer service.

This is a great little TV. Assembly was simple since its so light. I love that with its wifi connection and smart apps, I am able to use everything I want without connecting any wires to it at all other than the power cable. Connecting to my wifi router was simple, and the streaming apps work flawlessly. I have Time Warner Spectrum cable, so I downloaded the Spectrum app from Samsungs store, signed in, and now I get all my cable channels. Ive only had it a couple of days, but Spectrum, Netflix, and YouTube work great. The Smart Menu is unobtrusive and quick to navigate. You can reposition the various apps in the menu for quick access to the ones you use most frequently, and you can remove unneeded apps as well to reduce clutter. Picture quality is excellent. The settings options are grouped logically, there are a decent set of presets (Normal, Dynamic, Movie, etc) all of which can be fine-tuned with Expert Settings if you want to calibrate your picture. Sound is fine for a TV this size, it doesnt have the most powerful bass, but the sound is clear and there is plenty of volume available. Overall this was a great purchase, and an outstanding value at this price.

Do not buy this unit if you plan on standing it on a table with its flimsy, unstable legs. I had it on a table with my cable box. Bumped into the table and the television fell over onto the cable box and damaged the televisions screen. Dont know why Samsung went away from the base stands that they use to have.

Got this on friday and so far its a great tv. It was very easy to connect, set up and program. I havent had any trouble with the wifi connection, but it does sometimes requires resubmitting. That in part Im sure, due to my spectrum service constantly going out and resetting. I have not tried to connect my pc, or phone. The sound and volume are just right. It gets plenty loud and so far no distortion. Ive seen some reviews complaining about sound, but in my case it is fine, no tinny sound at all. After reading reviews I was set to purchase a sound bar, but theres no need for one. You can go in and adjust sound as you want. There are different picture modes as well that you can use to suit your fancy. The only thing I could say needs improving, is the night light on the remote. It lights up, but just barely and in the dark can be difficult to read. Other than that, Im loving this tv. If anything changes Ill come back and update. For now a full 5 stars.

The picture on the TV is very crisp, however the screen is VERY dim, even adjusting it to be as bright as possible. Additionally, the sound is awful. If the screen were not so dim, I would have kept the TV and gotten a speaker bar. I am returning this TV.

TV worked for less than 5 minutes (although it looked great) during initial setup before it stopped working. Seemed to work fine until setup of Samsung Account, then screen stopped functioning. TV still powers on but no picture. You can tell its on as screen appears blue from extreme angles (although completely black from straight on) and you still get a tone when pressing certain buttons on the remote. (Although nothing changes on the actual screen.) Ive had a 32 inch Samsung for almost 5 years that still functions fine. Phone is also Samsung, so Id had good luck with them until now. Box it was shipped in looked fine, so nothing appeared to go wrong when it was shipped. Samsung customer tech support not much help. (All of their recommendations were things I had already tried. Pretty difficult to restore to factory settings when you cant navigate to the main menu because the screen doesnt work.) Said I could setup appointment to bring it to a Samsung location to have it repaired, but warranty would be reduced from 1 year to 90 days. Amazon tech support was a bit more helpful, but still have to return for replacement TV. Opted to return and replace it. Hopefully the replacement isnt also dead within a few minutes. Base was also a lot deeper than I had expected at about 14 inches.
