I was looking for an easily portable (20" or smaller) monitor with 1920x1080 resolution and a digital (HDMI or DVI) input. This was the only monitor I could find that met those criteria. All other currently available 20" or smaller monitors have lower resolution (i.e. 1600x900 / 1366x768) panels. There are also a handful of smaller USB powered monitors, but those dont support proper HDMI / DVI input, and instead rely on sending video data over the USB cable via DisplayLink. (Which means they dont properly support 3D video cards, and often suffer from lag / compression artifacts) As far as the image quality goes, I was very pleasantly surprised by this monitor. The "SuperClear" MVA panel actually looks brighter and has a higher contrast ratio than my 24" IPS monitor that sits right next to it. It makes me curious if ViewSonics MVA panel is actually a P-MVA, S-MVA, or A-MVA panel. Regardless, it looks great and is easy on the eyes. The only downside of the panel is the relatively slow (25ms GTG) response time. For playing fast action games, this may not be the ideal choice as some ghosting / blurring can be noticed during rapidly changing scenes, or when scrolling a document. For casual gaming, document editing, web browsing, etc. this should not be an issue. As far as portability goes, the monitor is light weight, and the stand easily attaches / detaches without screws for storage in a travel bag. The monitor also only draws 18 watts at full brightness, making battery powered use cases possible. The only thing that would make this monitor even better would be proper HDMI input, instead of the DVI / analog audio combo, especially as the monitor has built in speakers. (ViewSonic, if you read these reviews - Id happily pay another $10-$15 for this monitor with integrated HDMI. Please consider that for a future model!) Anyway, this is another great ViewSonic product, and Im happy with my purchase. PROS: 1920x1080 resolution High brightness / contrast ratio DVI input Integrated speakers CONS: Somewhat slow response time No HDMI input

Display quality meets my needs and the price was great. I was disappointed that it only had a single VGA input; I was expecting it to also have a DVI input, given that it was advertised as an HD monitor. My fault: I should have looked more closely.

The speakers are worse than useless but the monitor performance and resolution are excellent. I bought it primarily because i wanted to make text easier to read [as compared to my previous monitor]. So i wanted the largest screen-size i could find that would run in a Native 1920x1080 resolution. 20" was the ticket and this monitor was the best-priced 20" monitor i could fine. Even the smallest text is perfectly clear and easy to read. One note... like others have said, its wider than you might expect however, i like that since i can put 2 document or web pages side-by-side on the screen at the same time for reviewing. Very happy with the purchase [just dont buy it because you think you might be able to make some use out of the speakers. Honestly, they are truely worthless... i would have gone 5 stars if i could even hear them but they are a joke]. In any case, i would buy it again just for the viewing quality.

I needed a basic external monitor for a security system network video recorder and this item fit the bill. I have owned and used ViewSonic monitors in the past and have decent success with them. This item has a simple VGA connection and along with its 1920x1080 resolution, it satisfied my needs. This one, luckily, had zero dead pixels, the brightness and image quality are good enough for what I needed; and for less than $100, I feel I did okay.

Good: Bright HD widescreen 1920 X1080 resolution. Once its set up, no problems. Very bright with no bad pixels. Backlit HD widescreen, Viewsonic quality. BAD: Major pain in the neck to set up. 5 Tiny buttons at the bottom of the screen are nearly impossible to tell apart. Tiny black identifiers on black background. No aid from included user manual. To set any of the required screen settings is an exercise in frustration. Monitor kept giving me the "Helpful" onscreen reminder that 1920 resolution was best. Kept popping up that reminder in middle of screen while trying to install new operating system. Monitor only has 1 VGA (AKA DSub) input. No DVI or HDMI inputs, so check your video card outputs to be sure you have VGA output or buy an adapter. Review updated: After 2 weeks of use raised to 4 stars. Great monitor for computer use, just tough to set up.

I purchased a ViewSonic VA2055SA monitor to upgrade an old 1366x768 monitor of the same size. The ViewSonics better 1080p resolution is very apparent (if you are thinking of upgrading to a 1080p monitor from a 720p monitor, do it) and I am pleased with the image quality. I do have two bones to pick with this monitor, though. First, setting up the monitor is a bit frustrating. The buttons on the monitor are identical (save for the power button, which is slightly larger than the others) and they are not well-marked - Some indentations on the monitor show which buttons are which, but unless you are in a well-lit room or shining a light on the monitor, you will not be able to see those indentations. Second, this monitor has significant image ghosting. If you are using it for gaming or movies, it might not be ideal. Otherwise, for everyday use, it should be fine. One final detail you may miss if you only glance at a picture of the monitor: There is a sticker on the upper-left area of the bezel with the ViewSonic birds. If you want a 100% plain black monitor, this might annoy you, but it is a non-issue for me.

Im not a pro photo person but we use adobe photshop for a small business venture with graphic design and these work perfect. Sure there are much better monitors but i dont make books for a living. I spent way too much timing reading to find the right monitors and i just gabe up and bought these on sheer price. Glad i did!

Pixels going bad, getting red dots of different sizes on the screen. Two of them so far, after <6 months. Here is their response: "Hello Jerry, ViewSonic LCD desktop display products are warranted with our LCD Pixel Performance Guarantee. Through this limited warranty, you are guaranteed high-quality screen performance with no more than a total of three (3) improperly operating pixels and no more than two (2) bright or two (2) dark pixels. Thank you for contacting ViewSonic" So, it looks like I have to wait for 2 more bad pixels to appear before they will take any accountable responsibility. Low standards, to have an acceptable amount of failure and defect, kind of like an acceptable number of mouse turds in your hamburger. Failed pixels equal a failed product, period.

I specifically decided to buy this monitor because I didnt want to also buy external speakers when building my pc, and its nice to not always have to have your headphones on. Dont bother getting this model if thats also what youre going for, the sound quality from the built-in speakers is terrible and barely audible, even at 100 audio on the computer lol. Otherwise, the pixel quality is very good!

The product was well-packaged and arrived in perfect condition. It took all of five minutes to set up the monitor, snapping the stand together, hooking up the power cord, audio cord and the VGA cable. Both Windows 10 and my graphics card recognized the monitor immediately, I downloaded the latest drivers and registered the product on the ViewSonic website. The built-in speakers can be adjusted from the built-in menu, but they are not much to write home about - not very loud and rather tinny sounding, even with adjustments on my audio manager software. The video is beautiful. This 1920x1080 monitor is well worth the money.
