What was advertised as a Surface 2 laptop (newest generation) did not actually show up. I felt great that the outside label attached to what appeared to be the original MS packaging stated the correct description of a Surface 2 laptop (newest version). But after turning on and checking the system configuration i realized the laptop came with a generation 7 i5 (7300) intel processor. That is NOT a surface 2. That is the original surface laptop. The primary upgrade to the Surface 2 (released in late 2018) was to the generation 8 intel processor. Make sure you check the system configuration or you may not know you received the incorrect item (particularly since the label was misleading and inaccurate). Note, after this mistake I carefully reviewed amazon comments and I am not the only one that had this happen recently.

Install Flash Player Ive had nothing but trouble with the Microsoft Surface 2 laptop I received. Ive had several blue screens of death. Whenever I came back to it after not using it for a while it was unresponsive and required a reboot. After several days of problems, I found a solution on the Internet, disable the Surface Intersil Ambient Light Sensor, see the attached video for how this works. Also notice how much memory is freed up when this device is disabled. The one star review is because you should not need to search for solutions like this for a new laptop. I would have rather the computer be dead on arrival than partially working.

Got my Surface Laptop 2, I5/8GB RAM/265GB aaaand...returned it. First, fit and finish are tight. No complaints there. Lack of USB-C was a bit of a thing, but I decided to try anyway. Display was beautiful, another non-complaint. Main reasons for giving it the boot was: 1. Battery life. The SL2 struggled to give me 7 hours no matter how I configured it. Less than people were reporting and waaaay less than Microsoft advertised. 2. Slow. With the chip and RAM inserted, everything should have been faster. 3. Performance. Could not get it to play movies in any app or player without severe hiccuping/studdering. When the performance and battery life is on par with the Surface Go, the laptop had to go. Maybe I got a lemon, but I also read about how the SL2 was non-user fixable or upgradable. You can’t even replace a dying battery. Opening it up is impossible without destroying it. Everything inside is glued, soldered or spot welded down. Microsoft even admitted that due to the way the devices are constructed, any problems result in the laptop being junked. Not very eco-friendly.

I ordered an i7 and received an i5 cpu instead. Also i ordered a surface laptop 2 and i got a surface laptop 1. You can tell because the cpu is 7th gen and not 8th gen.

To be honest I am not a Mac fan but I am forced to use one at work at times. I dont like the OS but but the hardware has been superior to anything else I have used if you are willing to pay the higher prices. That is until I tried the Surface laptop 2. The hardware on this laptop is every bit as good as what is on a Mac if not better and you also get to use Windows and the thousands of software programs that also run on it. The screen on this laptop is just amazing. It renders 4K video flawlessly without stuttering at all. I have to say this is the best screen I have seen on any laptop period. Im not a heavy gamer but Ive ran photo editing software and other programs that my other laptop struggles with. The Surface so far has run everything that Ive thrown at it without issue. It comes with the new I 5 processor that is supposed to have fifty percent more power than last years chip and from what Ive seen so far I believe it. It out performs my older PC with an I 7 processor. Battery life is excellent also. With light use I am going on four days without charging and still have 50% battery remaining. With heavy use it will get me through 8 to 12 hours before I have to charge. I havent had it long enough to get a firm number but it will get you through a workday on single charge without a problem. With all that said nothing is perfect. Its not a deal breaker but I just dont understand why Microsoft felt the need to only include one USB A 3.0 port. I can understand their reasoning for not including a USB C but not having at least 2 USB 3.0 ports limits external device hookup unless you plug in a hub of some sort. Of course Microsoft sells a hub specifically for this laptop so that might have been the idea behind it.

This laptop is for people who need to be able to whip out their computer and type on the fly. I cannot stress enough that the Surface Laptop 2 has THE BEST LAPTOP KEYBOARD on the market. If youre an impulsive writer, go to a lot of meetings, or need to take fast-paced notes in school, this is absolutely for you. The incredible (and I mean seriously incredible) display and touch screen are a huge bonus. You will, however, compromise on performance. The small form factor seriously limits the thermal integrity of the machine, meaning that whether you try to pack an i7 or an i5 in there, youre going to get some serious throttling. This does, however, also make for incredible battery life. I highly recommend the i5 8Gb config. You absolutely do not need the i7 model, as the form factor significantly limits its performance. If youre looking for something that can handle more intensive workloads, this is not the laptop for you. Its also ABSOLUTELY not for gaming. Overall, the average user wont regret this one. Its extremely versatile, and itll get you through a few years of school. Expect to depreciate over 3 years if youre buying it for your business. I love the thing, and Im really picky about computers.

I gave this a four out of five just due to a lazy thing that Microsoft could easily fix. The power cord for this laptop is way shorter than it should be... like prohibitively short. The cord from the wall to the brick makes it hang in the air and tugs the charger out constantly. I am currently looking into where to buy an extension for this. That is only an extra $10-$15 and isnt that big of a deal... but if you are dropping $900+ dollars on a laptop, should you really have to do that? My other complaint is the lack of USB-C ports. I knew this going into buying the laptop, so I am not going to complain about it too much. But I purchased my Spectre three years ago and it had two USB-C ports at the same price point... it is just really odd Microsoft hasnt added at least one yet. Besides that the laptop is amazing. I went from a Macbook, to an HP Spectre and now to this. I will say that I think the Surface Laptop is my favorite of the bunch. I wasnt sure Id like the cloth like fabric around the keyboard, but it is great. It looks good, runs smooth and has an amazing screen. The speakers on this laptop are also tremendous. Ill definitely be sticking with the Surface Laptop line, especially if they fix the two issues I listed above!

I searched for a laptop for school for several weeks, combing through hundreds of reviews and types. I decided on this one based on overall price point and reviews. Overall, this is an awesome laptop. It charges really fast and the battery life is pretty good. I love that it starts right up and recognizes your face as soon as you open it. It is durable and super fast. I use it mainly for taking exams, Microsoft office, and other things for school. I love the draw feature on it especially for lectures. You don’t really need the stylus pen. Overall, I have been pleased with this laptop and would definitely recommend it especially for the price point. It is super quiet and light weight as well!

Honestly, this is the best laptop Ive ever purchased but I did only had it for 4 months. Ive had no issues with it and the keyboard is amazing! The touchscreen is also flawless and my laptop never slows down and honestly it is just amazing. I was scared to purchase such an expensive laptop because there is a chance you may recieve a laptop that is defective but so far no issues so Im quiet happy w/ my purchase. I do have to say that when you purchase your laptop make sure you read what that seller is selling and their reviews on that product. Fortunately for me the seller I picked are the Toll brothers and they had such great reviews on their electric products. Great customer service on their part and the laptop arrived safely. Thank you so much, couldnt be any happier!

I dont know if I can find enough positive things to say about this laptop. Yes, I know that it does not have any type C USB ports let alone a single Thunderbolt 3 port, but this laptop is really the fastest, best looking, and most functional piece of hardware Ive owned. Aside from my $3,000 gaming PC that I built myself, this is the fastest machine in the house. Again, it lacks in I/O, but I havent had a need so far to plug anything into it. I bought the Surface Arc Mouse thinking that I would use it and I have only used it for a few minutes here and there. The track pad is so intuitive, accurate and responsive that I really just dont need a mouse when I use this laptop. The keyboard is AMAZING. I mainly use this for work, and I must say I have not had a more comfortable all day typing experience on ANY laptop. I would recommend this laptop to anyone who needs a lightning fast machine for work/school that can last all day under load with a killer battery, and still look amazing while doing it. Ive already gotten several compliments on the look of the machine from my colleagues. Well done, Microsoft. Well done.
