Just purchased this computer and at first the CPU was constantly at 100% and in the red. Now for the price this computer has a relatively good CPU. This CPU has a benchmark of around 2600 which for the lay person a benchmark is a way to rate CPUs/Processors. Most computers in this price range have a CPU benchmark under 1000 and the higher the benchmark the better. This computer comes with bloatware pre-installed which slows down the computer and fills up the processor to 100%. After some work this computer is now running great with the CPU holding mostly at around 39% and startup time is at 42 seconds now compared to more than a minute and a half right out of the box. Heres what i did. First I downloaded "PC Decrapifier." This tells you which programs on the computer are not necessary and which ones are and recommends which ones to be deleted.... for example one of the unnecessary programs was "Tangent" games. After that i downloaded "advanced system tools free" and scanned and cleaned the computer and then in that program went to "startup" programs and chose to run only the necessary programs to run upon startup. I added two 8gb ram sticks to bring the total ram to 16gb which was very tricky but there is a YouTube video on it and now the computer is running great. So that being said the computer is functioning very well for the price paid with a relatively decent processor. The end!

Pros: -Lightweight -Nice, conservative design -Alright processor and RAM, could use expansion to 8GB -500GB of storage -Lots of palm and wrist space to rest on -Keycaps feel nice to type on -Has bloatware, but only two programs which are McAfee and Wildtanget Games. I thought the HP suite that also comes with it isnt that bad since I can pair it with my HP printer Cons: -Cheap plastic toy feel, flexes a lot and honestly feels like a toy -Battery life is not that long, from 100% and just about 45 minutes of medium/light usage its at 88% -Trackpad is kinda finicky when trying to motion gesture but its minor -Minor, but num lock key doesnt light up when activiated -Stutters and lags when under load, which can be done when uninstalling the bloatware that comes preinstalled Overall, its not bad but I highly recommend getting this whenever it goes for sub $250 as anything above it makes other laptops way better choices. I chose this as a "better chromebook" that can do web tasks as well as handle old games like Civ 5. So far I dont count on the battery life making it throughout the whole day but it doesnt take long to charge.

Was looking for an inexpensive laptop for my 84 year old mother-in-law to use to check e mail and use the internet and chose this laptop due to: 1. price $250 for what was a couple of years ago would be considered a fast processor 2. HP a name brand 3. had everything you need - enough memory, enough ports, a DVD - to do an adequate job I set it up for her and kept it simple and it is working out great By the way, was NOT loaded with Bloatware, only a trial subscription Virus Program also, had to remove HP Audio as it kept popping up and freezing up the laptop So,again for $250 you get a laptop that is more than adequate

Great standard laptop. Ive used mine for a couple of months now and Im happy with it. Be advised: this has massive amounts of bloatware factory installed, but anything you buy nowadays has the same issue. Just be prepared to go in and remove it or it will likely slow down performance prematurely. I liked the larger keyboard and the 10-key pad and it has excellent battery life for this price point. For reference, I use this machine mainly for school and work purposes, no heavy gaming or video editing, etc.
