After a week long investigation into comparing all similar laptops: 13inch ultrabooks with business performance, I thought this machine was the victor. The warranty wont cover me here in Asia, but I put that aside for such a great machine. Sadly, this machine is a dud, heres why: (1) I saw it in a youtube review but chose to disregard the information. yes, the screen really does wobble with normal typing. Ive used US$500 laptops that dont have that problem. It shakes around, especially if your table is a little shaky too (resonance). This problem alone is a deal breaker. (2) The battery life, or should I say death. Most online reviewers talked about 9-12 hours, with this Amazon page saying 22.5 hours average. Well, I got a measly 4-6 hours when browsing and some Skype calls. Imagine after a year, perhaps 2-3 hours. The whole long battery life sell is marketing total bs. I phoned HP support and said to expect 5-6 hours of normal use. (3) The keyboard design. Wow. With 4 keys for page controls on the right, the rest of the keys sit to the left meaning when you type, your head is not at the center of the screen if you sit straight on. Unacceptable ergonomics. On the plus, the machine ran fast, screen and sounds are awesome.

Bought this beauty from MS store and its beautiful, slim, light weight and runs great. Just to be specific about ports its got two type c and one older type A. It can charge from either type C port. Love having legacy usb type A for wireless receiver button for Logitech anywhere mouse. Screen is gorgeous and keys are good. Whats not so good is troubling though. Namely the fan is almost always on but its not to loud. I dont like this as my earlier spectre 13 doesnt have this problem. There is thermal config for this but only reduces it a little. My bios is NOT configured to have it on always if thats a concern. The second is so fixable that its ridiculous that HP doesnt do something and that is key lights go out after 10 seconds. There is no bios change that can be made- I tried. So when your in dimly lit room you have to take a guess where button is and maybe hitting something else that screws up view. Maybe fix is coming but this is latest bios update and win 10 1809. So if I keep this I will have to put up with these issues and havent made up my mind as I have 30 days. If these issues arent important to you if a good deal for $1529. Try asking for friends and family discount as I got $79 off.

Awesome little laptop! This thing is a powerhouse, opening things lightning fast due to the whiskey lake processor. When I first got it, it got hot and the fans were on 24/7. After I updated windows and updated the bios (through HP Support Assistant) the fans basically ceased to turn on. If Im doing heavy computing the fans turn on, as would all laptops, so this issue was fixed. Hopefully the other reviewer has tried to update their bios to fix this. There is another option to turn fans to "Quiet" mode if needed, but since my update I havent really needed to. Amazing laptop!

I read many rave reviews for this laptop so I was pretty confident I was getting a quality product. The first one I bought would not even boot to Windows without shutting down unexpectedly. I even tried a clean install of Windows and it shut down in the middle of that. So, I exchanged it for the same model. That one I was able to get up and running Windows, and I was able to install all of my programs and settings, but it started shutting down without warning. After the third time of it shutting down in a single day, I returned it again. The positives about this laptop... small and lightweight. The keyboard is good. Oh, and the battery life is fantastic. I switched to Windows from a Macbook Air after catastrophic keyboard issues with two different Macs. Honestly, even when functioning properly, this machine doesnt operate as smoothly as a Macbook. There is a noticeable difference in the smoothness/speed of the trackpad scroll, and its a bit slow switching between programs. And with gestures enabled, it has an annoying tendency to select text on accident. But, at least it has a functioning keyboard. After I returned the HP Spectre I replaced it with a high-end Dell (XPS 15) and that seems to run as smoothly as a Macbook, albeit at a significant cost to battery life.
