UPDATES 05/20/2019 - original review below. After a few weeks with the laptop, I have noticed some issues with the laptop. Namely, thermal and WiFi. Ive dropped by review from 5 to 4 stars. None of these issues are deal breakers and I still love this laptop, but let me explain so you are aware going in. Thermal: the intel i7 processor on this machine is a beast and it produces a lot of heat. Unfortunately, the design of the laptop is so thin that it has no great way to dissipate heat. When the i7 goes up to nearly 4GHz (the turbo boost on it) it usually throttles (clocks down) because the temps of the processor will go up to 90 or so Celcius at least on my machine, (max temp being 100 C). Additionally this will make the fans go kind of whacky. There are a few fixes (and you can implement multiple), one of which I chose to do and it resolved my issue. The first fix is you can undervolt your processor. This requires software called intel xtu. I didnt mess around with this option. The second option is re-pasting your processor, and installing thermal pads on your heat sinks to draw the heat from the processor and GPU to the bottom case to dissipate the heat correctly. This, in addition to the intel XTU are your options if you NEED 4 GHz. The last option, which worked perfect for me was to turn off TurboBoost in the BIOS (very easy). This permanently clocks your processor down to 2.2 Ghz - which for me, was way more than enough performance. Im able to game at the exact same FPS as with turbo boost, as well as photo editing without any noticeable slowdown. All Ive seen from doing this is better temps and no more crazy fans. Again, this isnt a dealbreaker for me and I dont think it should be for you. If it is, and you NEED 4GHz either be prepared to do some work to fix it, or you should consider a gaming machine that dissipates heat better. The second issue is the WiFi card. The Killer 1535 card included in this machine has some issues. I am replacing it with an Intel 9260 (very inexpensive Wifi Card and easy to do) to deal with these issues. The issues with the card are random disconnects somewhat infrequently, but the 9260 is a cheap easy fix. Driver updates didnt seem to help. I still love this laptop despite these issues. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW After owning a Dell Latitude E5450 for the last few years, I decided it was time for an upgrade. I set out on a research hunt for a laptop that had high build quality, great performance (preferably with a dGPU), good battery, as compact as possible and not overly expensive. I also wanted a strong 4k panel. Those are some tough requirements to meet, but the Dell XPS 15 9570 exceeded my expectations in these areas. Ive owned a lot of laptops in my lifetime, everything from an Apple Powerbook 150 to a GPD Win, to fat gaming laptops. Out of all of the laptops Ive ever owned, this is easily my favorite. Over the last few years Ive been fairly disappointed in the direction of Apple and have found myself leaning more and more towards Dell, and as far as I can tell their quality has only gotten better. BUILD QUALITY The build quality of this machine is unbelievable for the price. Although styled differently, I feel like I am holding a machine on par with the quality of a MacBook Pro. PERFORMANCE The performance of this machine is great, especially for how thin and light it is. The i7 CPU has 6 cores. Its faster than many desktop processors even on the market right now. 16 GB of RAM should be enough for anything youll run aside from some video processing type tasks. The GTX 1050Ti Max-Q is a fantastic card as well. Its about on par with a 960M in terms of performance (not quite as good as a true 1050ti). Although I dont use this for heavy gaming, Im able to play Playerunknowns battlegrounds on 1080P with about 50-60 FPS on average. The NVME SSD is snappy. When doing photo editing tasks, the machine doesnt have a single issue. THERMAL The laptop stays pretty cool, even under fairly heavy loads. I havent done any empirical tests, but during heavy gaming the keyboard gets a little warm as does the underbody. Nothing that doesnt happen on any other laptop with this kind of hardware. I did not notice any throttling of the i7 CPU (monitored with task manager) during gaming either. The fans will go on in these situations but this doesnt bother me at all; Id rather have a cool laptop with fan noise than a hot one with none. DISPLAY The display on this is the best part of this whole package. I have the 4K screen and I highly recommend it. The colors are perfect on it, it pops and looks perfect, especially for creative tasks where color is important. I wouldnt recommend the 4k if you have extremely high battery demands or perhaps if youre a hardcore gamer; the 1080p screen would probably be better for you. The 4K screen will probably set you back an hour or two of battery time, and for gaming in FHD on it, it will look a bit weird downscaling to 1080P on a 4K monitor...but to me, the 4K is worth it for the colors and pure beauty. KEYBOARD The keyboard is flawless in my opinion. About as good as you can get for a laptop keyboard. The tactile response is perfect, the sound is clicky enough to be engaging but not loud enough to be annoying. Backlit keyboard is a nice touch too. BATTERY LIFE Battery life is fairly good for the specs that are in this, with a 97+Whr battery. With keyboard lights off, battery set to high battery life mode in Windows 10, and Dell Power Command set to Optimal, I get about 6 hours with moderate use (web browsing, Photoshop Lightroom CC). This is totally acceptable to me. With the 1080P screen youd probably get 6-8 hours. With heavy use (such as gaming) dont expect more than 1 - 1.5 hours. SERVICEABILITY From what I can tell, this machine is fairly serviceable, especially by todays standards. The RAM and SSD are easily user replaceable, and Id argue that the battery is as well. Honestly, I cant think of anything bad to say about this laptop. Maybe that I wish the battery life was a little bit better, but this isnt Dells fault and I cant knock the machine for it. The hardware in it is some high end power hungry stuff. They somehow stuffed nearly a 100 Whr battery in here which helps a lot but Im not sure there was much else they could do. Any other questions and I will try to answer them in comments. This here is a keeper.

I was initially really excited to get this laptop as it was the second highest build possible in terms of included hardware (processor, graphics card, ram, ssd) & many reviews online listed it as one of the best laptops period. Upon opening it up the laptop has a really nice, solid & sleek aluminum construction. This build is a bit on the heavier side (~5lbs) whoch isnt too bad for me, but if youre looking for portability go with the XPS 13. Eveything boots ups and operates very quickly. With the larger power supply I can go several uses, hours at a time without having to charge (I usually charge once every 3 or 4 days). Keyboard is a bit on the small side as well so just be aware. However this review wouldve got a 5/5 expect this BRAND NEW computer comes from Dell with Speaker crackling! Dell is aware of the issue as a multitude of customers have brought it to their attention through customer service and online forums. At this time they are refusing to do anything. This defect should be heavily considered before buying this expensive & "premium" laptop. Honestly, I recommend you pass this one up. Several people have tried different fixes from software deletions & installs, to utilizing the warranty for a motherboard replacement all to no avail. Its a defect in this particular computer (XPS 15 9360 &9370) and quite honestly demands a recall. (Again unlikely a BIOS update will fix this either) In conclusion, PASS ON BUYING THIS LAPTOP. Be careful & do alot of research for any & all problems on whichever laptop you buy as I thought I did on this one, but was wrong. Best of luck!

Does anyone else have a bad wifi signal?? I previously had the killer card for the first couple of days and did all the driver updates and still the wifi signal was poor. I purchased the intel 9260 wifi card, installed and did the driver updates and yet my signal is still bad. Download speeds are at max 60-100mbps but weak signal so it doesnt matter how fast my connection is. Am i missing something here? I feel like the antenna is not working properly in this laptop because i ran a test with my phone next to it and download speeds were incredibly faster than the laptop. Phone was doing 260mbps download meanwhile the laptop was like 50 mbps. Called Amazon and their gonna send me a replacement i hope it works since i really like this laptop. So i got replacement and the wifi signal is good and strong but now the speakers crackle and pop, music sounds distorted at time. Looked it up and it seems to be a common problem, i give up returning it ASAP!!

I bought this beautiful new laptop from Dell, and within a week, the spacebar started missing entries, which caused me to have to go back and insert spaces about every 10-15 words. Then a few days later, the speakers started sounding all garbled and muffled. Whatever. So I sent it into Dell for repair, and when I received it today, I get a message on the screen that there is no hard drive installed. I sat on the phone for 30 minutes waiting to speak with someone, and after about 45 minutes of trying to understand what the untrained tech was saying, I am now waiting for another box so I can send the laptop back to Dell again. Very aggravating that they have such low quality control at their domestic repair facility. Apparently when they replaced my daughter card, then failed to migrate the SSD, and didnt bother to boot the laptop to confirm that it worked. I will never buy a Dell again without Pro-level onsite support!!!!!!!!!!

Great CPU. Video Card is fast enough to throw down the odd game when Im away from home (FFXIV, GTA V/Online, Fortnite). I tend not to play the newest AAA titles on the go, so not a concern for me. Excellent battery life. Very glad for the 2 USB-A ports in addition to the USB-C Thunderbolt port. Only complaint is the minor LCD bleed the the bottom left and right hand corners. I only notice them when the screen is displaying something dark, like in some movies or games, but its definitely not a deal breaker.

I love this laptop, but when I first got it it wouldnt boot. Well, more accurately it spent minutes on a black screen with the keys lit before the keys stopped being lit and nothing more happened. So I did what any good IT guy would do and flipped it over, disconnected the battery and tried booting it using the power adapter. It worked. Plugged the battery back in and screwed the case back on, no more boot issues. Shortly after I realized my headset wasnt recognized when I plugged it in. Looked it up, turns out the Realtek HD Audio Manager was breaking it. Go into your task manager and disable its load on startup and you should be fine after a reboot. After getting the headset working, however, there was a weird echo. Turns out another bit of bloat from HP was causing that. Open up the Maxx Audio Pro software and turn off the Bass Boost. Id recommend uninstalling it afterwards so it cant be accidentally re-enabled. These arent things that should have been issues, but they were overall all easy to diagnose and quick to resolve. As everyone else has mentioned, the keyboard isnt the best and the graphics card isnt for gaming, but the laptop wouldnt lose a star for that. If the computer booted up correctly the first time, I would have given it 5 stars. The computer is solidly built. The touch pad is accurate (even if I nearly always use a wireless mouse). The screen is bright and colors are accurate. The battery life is amazing (especially if you use the battery saver features). The ability to upgrade the ram, wifi, and SSD is extremely welcome in a computer so thin. I had planned to replace the wifi card, the ram and the SSD, but unlike the earlier models which seemed to have slower Toshiba SSDs, mine came with a fairly quick Samsung NVMe SSD. I have a Wi-Fi 6 Killer wireless card I intend to replace the current card with, and will be getting the 32gb of ram later. Ill also be replacing the thermal paste to improve the thermals once Ive got the time. Ill update on the progress once Ive done it. All in all, this is an excellent computer Id recommend to anyone who isnt afraid to open up the computer and check connections once theyve received it. Sadly, I cant recommend it to people who arent at least a tiny bit technically savvy since, given the number of reviews stating issues, it seems fairly likely that youll have a simple problem you need to fix. Hopefully they can fix this in the next revision.

This computer looks amazing, but it sucks. The audio engine has a bug that sometimes stop working and only produces cracking noises and white noise, apparently other people has this problem too and dell is not very good with the tech support. I will definitely try to return it

I bought this computer hopping for the best and I find myself quite disappointed because It freezes all the time regardless the task it preforms. I have to reboot it up to 5-7 times every time I use it even if its just for checking emails. It also never wakes up from sleep, keyboard light turns on when pressing but nothing else happens. I work in animation and I purchased this computer in September, since then, Ive been working on borrowed laptops because this one is unstable!

Ive wanted a Dell XPS for a while and I finally opted for one. Surface Pro and Dells Xps are leaders in their category of high end 2 in 1 and laptops. With 16 MB of memory and a 512 GB SSD drive this bad machines rocks royally. Fast with an excellent display you can do whatever you want and Im all about speed and space as I have a few external HDs just in case. I really dont have much to say although I’m thoroughly satisfied. I will say that you have to spend if you want the best.

As in prior ratings, this is awful, absolutely worthless. It took hours to download Chrome and then it could not find my personal account. It is certainly not the dell xps 15 I have used in stores prior to purchasing this. Buy this machine if you want to wait over 5 minutes to open a new tab tab and to waste good money on absolute junk. Dell needs to pull these computers before their reputation is tainted for good. Do yourself a favor and buy HP Spectre 360 15 which is cheaper or the Dell Inspiron 7000 series (much cheaper) or even the Dell Inspiron 5000 series (half the price) All have 13 and 15, and Dells have 17, all touchscreens and perform much better than this. The positives: Screen and feel of keyboard and touch pad but makes no difference if you are going to stare at a blank screen waiting to load a web page. This model computer is rated #1 for 15 inch on most sites but this product on here is not it, this is defective. It was so slow to open up my Amazon tab that I was able to plug in, start up and get to Amazon quicker on my other computer. Received this item today and it is being reset (I dread how much time that will take) and packaged up to be returned. I am also contacting Dell to make them aware of this.
