This was a highly rated unit on Amazon and on several review websites. We received the item and plugged it in to charge it up prior to the "first start." The white light came on the side (unit is charging/charged?) and I proceeded to push the on/off button. Nothing. Pushed again...nothing. Pushed and held for a while, then released...nothing. Contacted ASUS chat support, was told to 1) remove the charger, 2) hold the power button down for a full minute, 3) plug in the charger and "start normally" (emphasis mine). Nothing here worked. The next troubleshooting step was to "plug the computer into a different outlet." My next step was to contact "Superwoman Grace" at Amazon chat support and she arranged for a replacement. I will update this review after the replacement arrives...

Touch pad is absolute junk, often doesnt respond or behaves erratically. Makes this laptop useless as a laptop. Back and forth with ASUS customer support, they had me completely wipe it down and re-install everything (hours of work) but of course that didnt work. Now they say the only option is for me to box and ship it to them for a several weeks and again theyll likely wipe it down. After 20+ years of Dells, HPs and a couple IBMs I truly regret this purchase. Run, dont walk away from ASUS laptops.

Install Flash Player Bought this laptop in September 2018 to replace a 4 year old HP Envy. Ive had great experiences with HP laptops but wanted to try something different this time. Right out of the box I noticed this laptop had an annoying buzz/distortion noise while playing audio/video and even when simply scrolling the mouse in a web browser. I spent a few weeks trying different fixes, upgrading & downgrading audio/display/chipset drivers, reloading the OS, adjusting sound profiles, adjusting power settings, etc and never could resolve the issue. Unfortunately I missed Amazons return window so I decided to send the laptop back to ASUS for warranty repair. The return shipping was about $35 via UPS but I figured it was better than dumping this thing on EBay at a $100-$200 loss. According to ASUS the laptop was repaired by replacing part #14008-02530900 (X705UQ_VECO_SPK_M_WIFI_ANTENNA). The laptop arrived back to me this afternoon and sadly the issue is still present with no improvement. Im not sure if it was actually tested before leaving the repair facility. I have included a video which demonstrates the noise while scrolling through a Facebook page. I would have given this product a 4 star rating if ASUS had fixed the audio issue. Instead it is getting 2 stars because I spent decent money to ship it back for repair and it was returned to me in the same condition. Aside from the audio issue it seems like a solid laptop and it performs well but it does have a few design flaws: 1) There are no capslock or numlock indicators on the keyboard. This may be trivial to many, but as a software developer I use that visual feedback to instantly know the state of my keys prior to typing. Im not a fan of the "lets start typing and see what we get" kind of thing. This is especially annoying in masked password fields; 2) the 10-key buttons are narrower than normal which makes them tricky to use; and 3) the speakers are on the bottom of the unit, so you have to tweak the EQ and raise the laptop off its surface in order to get a normal-ish sound. **Update 2018-12-15** Contacted ASUS support regarding the above-mentioned issue and arranged to send the laptop for repair a second time. They were kind enough to provide a prepaid shipping label this time. I just received the laptop back from the repair shop and it continues to have the same problem as before, maybe slightly worse now. I think its time to give up. I applaud ASUSs customer service efforts. They didnt give me any hassle during the returns. However at the end of the day, the problem has not been fixed after multiple trips to the repair shop so Im dropping this down to 1 star. Im not sure I trust the brand enough to accept a replacement unit (if they were to offer) so most likely I will try to sell this laptop and go back to HP or Dell.

This product stopped turning on after six weeks. Its a total brick. Asus was completely disinterested in resolving my complaint. I cannot recommend this product.

It broke within 2 weeks. Needed a motherboard replacement. Had to call to have them send a shipping label because warranty only covers 1-way shipping. Also asked them to please do what they can, within reason to preserve the data. They did a motherboard replacement and sent it back without any data. Last I checked, a faulty motherboard doesnt wipe the hard drive. After this experience with terrible, pathetic customer service, this is the last time I every buy an ASUS laptop.

I have had this for a little less than a week and here are my first impressions. This review if for the 17.3 inch Vivobook Pro N705UD-EH76. I am upgrading from a 17.3 HP Envy. I use this laptop primarily for work. First on the features. This weighs a little less that 5 lbs (yes I actually weighed it). It is not Windows Hello compatible and does not have a fingerprint reader. Neither of those features were important to me. It does a have matte screen which is something that was important to me. Much has been made of the keyboard, so let me address that. I took out my measuring tape and measured the keyboard from end to end and top to bottom. It is the exact same dimensions of the HP keyboard. What is different is that they compressed the 10 key numeric keypad. The number keys are narrower than what you would see on a 17.3 inch laptop. However, that also means the "standard" part of the keyboard is larger. Those keys are actually larger than typical. So if you dont input a lot of numbers, you will like the keyboard. If however you do a lot of spreadsheet work, you will not be happy with the keyboard layout. The keyboard is backlit and brightness is adjustable. The touchpad as many have indicated is Macbook style. I found the touchpad quick and responsive and intuitive to use. It is thin and light for 17 inch laptop. I would not describe the build as sturdy, but it is certainly not flimsy either. Update 6/13/18. Dead. Will only boot up into BIOS screen. Sending in for service. Changing rating to 1 star. As for performance, it the fastest laptop I have ever owned. This ships with Windows 10 Home, not Pro. Compared to the HP and Dell computers I have owned, I found the bloatware to be minimal. Like with most Windows laptops, it came with McAfee security suite pre-installed. So you may have to uninstall that if you are not a McAfee fan. Setup was relatively easy and uneventful. It took about an hour and half to load all of the Windows 10 updates. It has a 256GB SSD drive which powers the operating system. Boot up is quick, about 10 seconds. It has a 1Tb standard hard drive which is where I save my files. I cannot address the battery life, because I do not run it off the battery for extended periods of time. But I do not have high expectations for long battery life for 17 inch laptops. This is my first Asus laptop and so far I think this is an excellent value. I think it will difficult to find better performance and features at this price point. Will update if my opinion changes.

Called 3 times about not being able to delete McAfee. Always some overseas call center that want you to restart the computer until the problem goes away. 45 minutes on the phone 17 restarts later with nothing fixed!! Spent over 1k on a computer I cannot delete files from or install new software. Complete waste of money!!!! I had to pay someone to wipe the harddrive because of a ghost administrator. Another 400.00 spent on a new laptop! Asus has went down hill with customer service!!

I paid a lot for this computer. Ive owned it exactly 2 months. The battery does not stay charged long. Im having trouble with the AC adapter getting extremely hot and smell like burning plastic. Im working with Asus tech support and they asked me about my warranty card? I just realized there never was one in the box. Why would it not have a warranty card? It will take 2 days before someone gets back to me from Tech support to find out the issue. Very difficult to get something to simple resolved.
