Lets start by saying that the Asus looks great. Its sleek, the keyboard feels great, screen is crisp and bright, and the battery lasts for 8 hours. On the down side, dont expect this to wake up anywhere near close to "fast". Boot up times (because this machine appears to fail to sleep) can last anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds. It also doesnt really persist state all that well. If youre running crostini apps, for instance, youll find that theyre all shut down. Likewise, if youve configured chrome to only store credentials per session, youll find that while it restores the window and tab locations, youll need to log back in to whatever was there. Ive also noticed that you must adjust the screen from the top. Any torque applied from the side runs the risk of causing the machine to hard lock (hold down power for 30s to force a restart) This is a bit disappointing considering that the last chromebook didnt suffer those problems, so I dont believe this to be a chromeos problem. Since this is a travel machine for work, these are just annoying bugs rather than hard fails, but it would be really nice if I didnt have to deal with them.

The memory is 4 GB and over 3 appears to be used. I dont stress the system so it works for me. Some annoying things are that the SD card sticks out a little and if it gets bumped it pops out, and the keys are hard to read. I like to use the SD for storage when possible to leave room in the limited internal memory. It is annoying when the SD has popped out when you are trying to use it. The grey (silver) keys dont have enough contrast with the lettering in imperfect lighting and the backlighting isnt really effective unless you are looking down from above. I preferred the black keys on the C302. I expected this though having tried a Pixelbook which has the same color keys. Overall though Im happy enough with it and love the screen size for the overall size of the device.

...the video went dark and would not recover. I was watching an Amazon video. The sound continued but the screen went dark. Very strange thing to have happen and I have to return it of course. Too bad as I really like the 1/4" screen surrounds which do make for a large screen in a smaller machine. I share another reviewers complaint about the difficulty seeing the keys. The markings seem to be painted on instead of etched and at any angle even with backlighting they are effectively invisible. Not great for hunt and peck typists. We like Asus products here and have two other Asus chromebooks along with a Samsung Pro, HP 13, a Toshiba, and A Google Pixelbook. I was looking forward to this ones speed and fine build so this is quite a disappointment.

Wanted to love this one- its highly rated by tech reviewers. A bit high priced for a Chromebook, but I hoped to get what I paid for. My unit arrived with a broken/defective keyboard. Certain keys would not work at all, and sometimes the entire keyboard was dead. Restarts, powerwash, etc... would not help. It was snappy when working, and the display is good. Nice size too. Attractive machine. I will echo others thoughts about the visibility of the keys. I found it difficult to see the lettering on the keys too. Its actually surprising they would release it like this. This machine looks like it has a lot going for it. I could have lived with the difficult to read keyboard had the unit not been defective. Who knows if this was due to poor design, quality control, or the horrible packaging by the shipper (zero padding around the computer!) Hopefully this defect is the exception and not the rule.

Had issues right from the start with it. When I hit the number 1, it would type 13428709. Eventually got it to actually type 1. Got it fully setup for my mom who was going to be using it and then it happened again and this time when i rebooted i couldnt get any numbers or backspace to work again which means I couldnt unlock the computer either. Did a powerwash and the issue with the numbers remained. Was every number but 5 & 6. Worked with their support who was helpful but took a lot of time to get exactly where I got in less time. Returning this!

I own a dozen Chromebooks, including the Google Pixel, and the Asus out-performs all of them by every measure. The aluminium build is better than the Acer 14 that was popular for a long time, the battery life is better than the the smaller Acers and the practical screen-size and cost make it a better option than the famed Google Pixel. This is now my go-to device for everything Chromebook, from airplane travel to taking notes in meetings. Its impressive to see how well it works, with every part of the machine being considered thoughtfully, including a keyboard thats great for fast typists, and a small charger thats perfect for road warriors. Ive used this now for nearly two months and its a just a spectacular device. If youre considering a great all-round Chromebook with a solid build quality at a mid-point price, look no further.

I received the Chromebook in a timely manner as promised. Unfortunately, it malfunctioned from the start. After a few minutes, the touch-screen would freeze and trackpad would stop working. I would then have to reboot. A few minutes later, touch-screen would freeze again, trackpad would stop working. Id have to reboot. After a 3rd time, I performed a hard reset which at first solved the issue but a few minutes later, the same problem occurred. At which point I contacted Amazon and subsequently returned the chromebook for a refund with no problems. Amazon was great and efficient. Aside from the malfunctions, I liked everything about the unit: size, shape, weight, touchscreen and keyboard. But I should mention that when unpacking the unit from the box, there was things about the inner packaging that made me suspicious that it wasnt original packing from the factory but rather, a repackaged item. No way to know for sure.

Afte purchasing the Chromebook Pixel in 2015 for years I did not feel any urge to replace it; it just did everything fine, no complaints up till today, at all. However, when I read the reviews over the C434 I have convinced myself to upgrade; keywords are for me: fast laptop, enlighted keyboard (not many chromebooks have it!), good design. One more feature to move me to buy this laptop was the tablet modus -something I have always missed with my Chromebook, especially at work, when I sometimes need to use the laptop in tablet modus, doing my rounds in the clinic. My 11 inch Asus chromebook flip did the trick -but was too small, too slow to get my primary PC. The C434 delivers all the expectations; tablet mode is a bit heavy, I have found myself using it as a tablet, but in landscape mode. C343 is a bit less snappy, than my Chromebook Pixel 2015 -maybe due to less memory? However, addition of Linux apps is a great bonus; I have installed Thunderbird (as my daily mail program, also for my Exchange accounts!), Libre Office (for offline text editing and presentations) and NixNote 2 as my Evernote program (much better, than the corresponding Android apps). On the minus side: illuminated keyboard (as many time written here): too little contrast between key and enlighted space, hard to read; turning down illumination in bright spaces helps - but this is definitevely worse, than on the Chromebook Pixel 2015. All together: I have found a good replacement for my Chromebook Pixel 2015, stylish, real workhorse, tablet mode -and at an very exceptable price.

This computer is awesome. The screen is beautiful and responsive, the volume is great, the brightness is great, and I love the ability to freak people out by turning the keyboard all the way around. I am especially pleased with the solid and high quality feel of the keyboard itself. True, the backlit solution doesnt work that great and the white letters are hard to see against the nearly white grey keys. But the feel and feedback of the keyboard itself is amazing.

Have been using this Chromebook for a few weeks now. Slightly heavier than my other asus laptop. I grew very tired if windows and had a chrome os lenovo yogabook tablet which I loved. And I love this Chromebook even more. Its sleek. Beautiful design, quick to turn on, off, or load webpages. Im very happy with it.
