What I like: The hinge feels amazing The overall performance The portability, it is light and the metal behind the screen helps with the feel of it. The screen refresh rate What I dont like: Just about everything else. I cant run any overclock at all on the GPU (through acers own software) without the drivers crashing (also on auto fans). Then if you dare even think about hitting the turbo button the fans go right to 100% and if you dont have noise canceling headphones/headset then you find yourself not being able to hear the game unless you turn it up high enough to drown out the fans. Terrible thermal design as it gives up surface area and has to compensate with stupidly loud fans, it really should be a 17 inch with another heat pipe for both the cpu and gpu or at the very least more dense (or just larger) heat sinks. Ive found the keyboard will double some letters, I dont know if that is a fault of the switches they use or what but It never happened on my old Asus rog laptop so that adds a bit to the lack of thought that went into this laptoop. Im not sure what Im going to do with this obnoxiously loud laptop but I might have to put it in another room and stream from it.

I love everything about this laptop. I bought it specifically for gaming, but Im also not a very tech-y person. The few things that I have yet to figure out are more on me than the laptop itself. I have discovered (by accident) some extremely cool features, but more importantly - have been very satisfied with performance during gaming. The only downside is the sound from the speakers is not very clear. Its not /bad/, just not what I think it should be. Overall, a very fun piece to use for gaming and great value.

I travel a lot and go to many networking meetings. The first thing I noticed was this is MUCH heavier than my current laptop. (That being said, I paid a lot more for my lightweight 2.6 pound 15” laptop.) My current one also has an SSD drive and is 512GB, where as this is only 256 GB. But this one has an extra place to add a hard drive, so I imagine that if you put a good drive in here for all your data and it should work like a charm. (I will probably eventually do this, but I tend to work of external drives anyway.) It’s good not to have the data mixed in the same location as the programs anyway, so I don’t see this storage issue as that big a deal. I am not a gamer, but I run a home business, do photography, graphic design, and a bit of video, so I know I always need more than what the typical sales person thinks. All of my expert graphic design friends recommended I get a GAMING machine. So, I’m super excited to have one. I loaded 4 different Internet browsers and my Adobe software Master Collection. (I am not yet in the cloud.) All of this took up about 33% of the disc space when I look at the little pie chart. I am not a big techy, back end details type of person. But I know enough that this again proves, you will want to add another drive for storage or use an external drive. I’ve no issues running the programs so far. It is not uncommon for me to have the 4 browsers open with 20 tabs and be running Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop at the same time. The machine has not yet felt hot. I am sure the super fan included helps with this. Camera – is in the top of the machine screen. My other laptop actually has it built into the joint, the bending part of the laptop – so lower edge of the screen. (I think this saved on some of the weight, and was a sacrifice I made when buying. No laptop ever seems to be perfect.) This is really unflattering for any live calls, so I’m excited to have the camera in a normal place. I am a mouse user. I just got a tablet. There are connections for both on the right hand side of the machine, which seems to work fine. My son helped me with some of the downloading and installation work. He is a Mac user and touchpad user. He was screaming for a mouse about 15min into using it. He said the touchpad is so sensitive if your finger goes low. So, I expect those who use touchpad will have some adjusting to do. Keyboard: I really like the keyboard. Now, I need to find a protective cover. I like those plastic shields to protect for the unforeseen drink spill. The keys are super smooth to the touch and the blue lighting is just – COOL! I am a number pad user as well, so I love that it comes with your typical side keyboard. So many smaller laptops drop this off to save space. It was much more comfortable to use than my current one, where I occasionally hit the wrong key on the left end of the board. Something about the height of the Predator keys and the depth when pressing them – is just perfect for me. I have no issues hitting the Caps Lock, Cntl, Fn, and Shift keys, and move swiftly around and my normal pace. My other machine is much slimmer, but I just checked, and this Predator Laptop will fit inside my current laptop case. I know how hard it is to fit laptops in all the cases offered, so look for the “Lacdo 15 Inch Water Resistant Laptop Sleeve Case” ASIN B072NRXMS5. This will fit it snug with no movement and the case is slim, so fits nicely in a backpack. Some may like more corner padding, but with a tight fit, your laptop doesn’t slide around. SUMMARY: Very few gripes. A spec heavy, low storage, and sensitive touch pad (but I don’t use that anyway). Really no big complaints. This is a solid machine, good buy for what you get, and I look forward to using it more.

I bought the model PH315-52, which is the latest build. Be aware that the upgrade HHD installation is now different from older models and instead of 4 screws and a latch, you now have to remove 10 screws and the whole back cover. To protect your warranty this should be done at an Acer Service Center. Still a good laptop though, and Ill keep mine.

I used 2017 Helios 300 for two years and the hinge of it was broken down due to mechanical failure. And Acer charged me for $640 to repair it. I just used it with a broken hinge for months because I did not want to pay that amount. But anyway, I broke the screen too after a few months. So I decided to buy a new one but WITH A WARRANTY this time. Hinge looks way better than 2017. I never had a performance issue with the previous one that is why I decided to buy this again even though all the problems I went through. I bought 4 years warranty this time for my sake. Hopefully, It would be nice everything will be fine and I dont have to use the warranty, but I feel confident because of the warranty.

I bought this to play Planetside 2 and it is a very demanding game. This laptop delivers the performance that I’ve been wishing I had for years. I am so happy I bought it.

Performs better than basically anything else you can get for $1,200. It comes with the CPU slightly undervolted. Decent battery life.
