I bought one from Staples and one from Amazon in 2014. I use one for the office and one for the home (Apple Mac mini goes back and forth with me, running Windows on Bootcamp). STRENGTHS: 1. Alkaline batteries last for months (I never turn it off) 2. Comfortable. 3. Tracking: The Bluetrack tracking light does not get interrupted by dog hair or mouse pad dirt. I dont have to clean it, unlike my old Logitech Mouseman Opticals tracking light. WEAKNESSES: 1. I have occasional trouble with the strength of signal between the transmitter in the mouse and the USB receiver, causing the mouse to lag. 2. Scrolling: I use Windows full-screen scroll, but the mouse either goes through web pages too slow and Word documents too fast, so I usually end up using the scroll bars. 3. Separate USB dongles required for each mouse. It takes up 2 USB ports because I do not carry the mouse back and forth to work and home. The Logitech keyboard I use can handle multiple keyboards with the same USB dongle. 4. Do not lose the USB dongle. It is matched with the mouse and cannot be replaced. You will have to buy the combo again.

I have used this model mouse since it was introduced. Its one of the few things Ive counted on in the technology laden part of my life to be consistent. I go through about one mouse per 2 years, each previous mouse becomes a back up or parts bank. I am a heavy mouse user, my day job requires me to use a mouse all day, so for an average or light user, this mouse WILL last you a long time if you treat it well. This is the perfect mouse for tiny hands and for travel. The dongle stores securely away, the battery lasts a very long time (even when I forget to turn it off) and the back button (located near the thumb) will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Performance is ultra-smooth, and by my count, this is probably my 6th mouse in 10 years. As I said, Im an ultra user, and I wear the scroll button out after a year or so. If you have pets, keep a can of compressed air around, or remember to blow into the area where the light emits (with the mouse off, dont blind yourself). Pet hair and lint gets in there and youll know it immediately as low performance levels will immediately be apparent. Happy mousing.

This used to be a good mouse choice, but within the last couple of years microsoft has opted to change the build quality on these mice to something very low compared to other mice in its same price bracket. This is my second order of this mouse since 2016 and both have now failed. The first lasted 9 months before the right mouse click stopped working completely. This second mouse which I have had for about 14 months is now failing due to the scroll wheel rubber completely separating from the wheel itself and continues to disintegrate. I would recommend looking elsewhere unless you intentionally plan on only using this mouse short term.

I purchased this mouse about 2 years ago, mainly because it only uses one AA battery and is very quiet (the scroll wheel is virtually silent). It has the small nano-sized USB receiver that you can leave plugged into your laptop, and rubber grip sides for a nice feel. The size is perfect for my hand... not too small and not too big. The mouse has worked great for about 1-year, until the rubber sides started to pull away from the plastic mouse housing. Also, the rubber center scroll wheel is coming apart, making it hard to turn! The mouse was great for a while, but under daily use the rubber components just come apart. Maybe Microsoft fixed this issue with their latest models. Im planning to purchase another one today and give it another try. Feb 2016 Update: I purchased another Microsoft Mouse 4000 and it arrived wrapped in plastic with no retail box. That was fine with me, as the mouse worked as expected. This is definitely a smooth and quiet mouse, especially the middle mouse button/scroll wheel. The scroll wheel is completely quiet, and all three button clicks are also very quiet. I noticed that the rubber surrounding the scroll wheel looks different than the previous models Ive used, so hopefully this new mouse wont have the same problem with the rubber wheel falling apart over time as the last two Microsoft 400 mice Ive purchased.

Loved this mouse, and the scroll wheel too, at first. You can click it side-to-side to, but unfortunately this feature is not customizable (why?) like the other buttons, so it only does horizontal scrolling (which youll rarely use if ever). Dont have to use a mouse pad, the tracking is good, the buttons work fine, and the small shape is nice. Unfortunately, the soft rubber "tire" on the scroll wheel degrades over time and eventually ruins the middle button. First, the rubber itself sticks to every kind of dirt and debris, and cleaning it just makes it worse (towel lint). Eventually (several months) the texture gets rough and small rubber pieces come off. Then it gets loose (I guess stretched out) and comes off the wheel, preventing the wheel from turning and clicking properly. The only solution is to cut the rubber off and use the bare wheel (uncomfortable, but works).

Ill start by saying that I love this mouse, but it is only fair to say that the one I just purchased is the fourth one Ive bought, and the one it is replacing lasted less than six months before the left button stopped working--too late for an Amazon return, and Microsoft makes returns for such inexpensive items impractical. I watched a YouTube video on disassembling the mouse for cleaning (not guaranteed to solve the problem) and concluded that it made more sense just to buy a new one. My first wireless mouse was the BlueTrack Mobile Mouse 6000 Wireless, purchased in September 2009. In February 2010, it flamed out rather dramatically: the nano transceiver became too hot to touch, and the mouse stopped working. I ordered a replacement, and it lasted till January 2013 before self-destructing in the same dramatic way. By that time Microsoft had apparently decided that model was a poor design and had stopped making it, so I bought my first Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 from Staples the same day (having become hooked on wireless, I didnt want to go even one day with a corded mouse). In August 2015, seeing that model at Amazon for what seemed like a good price, I ordered #2 as a backup. It was placed in service in October 2016 and is actually still functioning, but the on-off switch had become a little iffy, and the transceiver frequently lost contact, so in December 2018 I placed in service #3, also ordered from Amazon. As noted, it failed a few days ago (May 26, 2019), to be replaced with #4. All of the first three have been battery hogs; In the first two, I had to replace the battery about once a month; #3 has given me about two months per battery. Admittedly, I use a mouse probably more than most people, but the estimate of "up to 10 months" for battery life is unreasonable. Other reviewers have stated that this mouse is not as well made as it used to be. That may be true, or it may just be that there is an occasional lemon. When it is working, it is a very good mouse. I especially like the nano transceiver and the way it is stored (not that I ever need to store it) and the placement of the power button, which makes it easy to thumb it off and on (I turn it off when I leave the computer). I have small hands, and this mouse is a good size for me and very comfortable to use.

Ive had this mouse for almost three and a half years. In that time, Ive had practically no problems with it. The battery life is exceptional. Theres a warning light that turns red when the battery is low; it can last about five days before it conks out. It fits in my hand nicely, and I dont accidentally hit the back button on it like I did with my last mouse. The only drawbacks are minor ones. Clicking with the scroll wheel is difficult as it requires some extra pressure, and sometimes I scroll by mistake in my attempt. After using the mouse for a while, my palm does get a bit sweaty, but nothing major. Ive begun to notice that mine has just recently started acting up. Its getting pretty close to the end of its life most likely. The left mouse button isnt really reliable anymore. Highlighting text has become a real challenge, and sometimes clicking once gets registered as many sequential clicks. The other buttons work as expected, and the movement is not impaired. This mouse has served me well, and I would recommend it to anyone despite these inconveniences. For the majority of its lifespan, its been a very reliable and comfortable mouse.

I have purchased 3 of these for the women in my family and they love it. Perfectly sized for their hands, and the buttons are customizable. Battery life is about three-four months with moderate daily use. It takes AA batteries and prefers non-rechargeable. One family member was so impressed, as were others in her office, that it is now the official office mouse. The wireless, nano sized transceiver plugs into a USB port on the computer (laptop or desktop, Windows or MAC) and is hardly seen since it protrudes only about 3/16". This mouse includes the "page-back" button for easy browsing and the scrolling wheel can be set for scrolling up and down pages from a single line at a time through a whole page at a time. These mice can generally take a drop onto a hard surface from four feet high without breaking, though the battery compartment top will fly off and the batteries go rolling. Highly recommended. BTW - To customize the buttons in all ways possible, see: www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/wireless-mobile-mouse-4000-limited-edition for the official MicroSoft Mouse Suite download. I have used this package with XP, Vista, Windows 7 Premium and Ultimate, Windows 8 and 8.1 in both 32 and 64 bit versions. Want a mouse which is larger and includes a page-forward button? I bought the larger Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 for myself which is too large for many feminine hands and includes the "page-forward" button on the right-hand side, which this reviewed (Mobile Mouse 4000) mouse does not.

Pros: * works on almost any surface (blankets, pillows, carpets, tables of course, etc.) * smooth scrolling (no clicks when you scroll up and down) * customizable buttons and scroll speed once you download the software online * works from a good distance. I can surf from across the room but whats the point? You wont see the screen anyway lol * USB slot under mouse for storage * USB sticks out of my laptop (HP Envy) about 1/4 inch. No biggie but I take it out before putting the laptop in my bag for safety purposes * aesthetically pleasing Con: * I was uncomfortable with the size at first; Ive been using Logitech M310 for the longest time. You get used to it though. * I thought the click is a bit loud, maybe because its sharp/deep. Ive tried other mice with subtle clicks but its because the clicks are more shallow. Doesnt really bother me though. Overall a great mouse for everyday use and traveling purposes! Its just a mouse so Im not picky. No complaints.

I bought one of these because my old Model 4000 track-wheel had reached the end of its life. I love that mouse and it was very ergonomically comfortable for me, but this new one (supposedly the same model, but black) goes through batteries like crazy. I had to switch to rechargable batteries and it now goes through about one rechargable a day. It is really really bad. I tried cleaning the optic lens with alcohol like some people suggested, but no luck. Update: Ive now sat on the phone for over an hour tying to get support for this product, or a replacement or something. They kept telling me they would transfer me to the appropriate department and they sent me to "Child protected services" and then another time they just hung up on me. This is worse than no support, because they pretend there is support and just waste your time.
This fits your .
Make sure this fits by entering your model number. One AA battery provides more than 10 months of battery life, recommend Polaroid AA batteries for extended use, and on-off button helps conserve battery life. Microsoft BlueTrack Technology gives you precise control on virtually any surface. Ambidextrous design to provide comfort and control for either hand. Snap-in Nano transceiver stows conveniently in the bottom of the mouse. Reliable 2.4GHz wireless connection with up to 15-foot range.
