Wireless desktops are great. Ive bought a few of these over the years. The operational distance on the MS Desktop 2000 is good, I have a PC hooked to the TV and can control it about 10 away from the sofa. I hate typing on any laptop keyboard, . Its just not comfortable. And I hate the touchpads even more I used wired USB kb and mice for awhile, but the wireless option makes setting up a comfortable workstation quick and easy at a client site. I just wish MS would have had the brains to ... 1) Use the same size batteries in both the mouse and the keyboard. The mouse uses AA, the keyboard uses AAA. Dumb. 2) Put an on/off switch on the keyboard. I have to slip a strip of paper between the batteries to keep the keyboard from draining when I transport it in my backpack.

I just got this in the mail today and after inspecting and testing it, I have to say, this keyboard is great! Dont let the negative reviews deter you. I ordered my product directly from Amazon and not through another seller. The keyboard has little features that make you really appreciate the keyboard in the end (i.e. an on and off switch on the mouse, crevices on both the keyboard and mouse for the one USB wireless adapter, function keys that work, etc.). The quality of the keyboard is unmistakably great and the mouse has a nice feel and weight to it. I really love it and I think that you will too. I actually decided to purchase this keyboard over the Logitech one and do not regret it at all. *****Edited 1/14/2014************ I have been using the combo for less than a year (received on February 18, 2013) and the USB transceiver has gone out on me. I figured no problem... I could probably find a replacement, a universal transceiver or Microsoft replacement. Unfortunately for me, no such thing exists. Apparently Microsoft states that the transceivers are personalized for each set, making the entire combo completely useless. I now have two nice looking pieces of plastic in my hands. I am very disappointed as the set costed quite a bit of $$$ I was hoping the set would at least last longer than a year! Now I have to search for a new set! Wont be going with Microsoft again... Be wary fellow consumers!

Works out-of-the box with Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows (though it takes Windows about 15 seconds to figure out the new device). Range is great for mouse and keyboard; no delays or inconsistencies encountered. I liked the Wireless 2000 non-business version so much I decided to try this one as well. Pros: NO CORDS!, to state the obvious, but very nice to eliminate clutter on and under my desk. Works with Linux (thank you, Microsoft) Only one USB widget required for mouse and keyboard, saves one port (nice for my older machines) Keyboard is nicely sized and shaped, and has feet pads that keeps it solidly in place, no sliding around in spite of its very light weight. Nice feel on both keyboard and mouse, but Im not that fast and therefore not fussy. Mouse wheel has side-side movement for lateral scrolling, and found this to be the only difference between the "business" vs. "non-business version", except the non-business costs a bit more. Cons: None. Great combo for the cost.

This was my second set of the same item, and both have failed in the same manner. After about a year, the USB receiver is no longer recognized by the computer. I only purchased the second set thinking that it was a fluke on the first one, and the keyboard and mouse are ergonomically comfortable to use. The second set was purchased June 2017 for my work computer, and was not used at all for 4 months between September through December 2017 (maternity leave). It worked just fine when I returned to work for about 5 months, and then intermittently the USB receiver would not connect. I know this is not an expensive unit, but am extremely disappointed with quality control.

I accidentally got this thinking it was was the same model we used at work, which are cheap but usable. This model is not satisfactory. Keys are beyond mushy, I cant find any surface the mouse will track on consistently, and the scroll wheel doesnt click. The wrist rest is designed for looks not comfort, and the the USB dongle is massive like an USB drive. If I kept the packaging this would be returned. I wont even donate it to goodwill its so bad. E-cycling here we come, waste of money.

I bought this wireless keyboard and mouse combo for my girlfriends desktop several months ago, she didnt want or need anything top of the line, so I researched keyboards that appeared to have good bang for the buck and came up with this set. One thing she really liked right out of the box was the size of the mouse. Most wireless mice are marketed and sized with laptop portability in mind, this sets mouse is not, it truly is a normal desktop sized mouse! The Microsoft Wireless Desktop 2000 is just as described, it is meant for a Desktop!! Installing this wireless set was a snap on Win 7 Home Premium 64bit system. The mouse and keyboard were automatically detected and the appropriate drivers were auto installed. Both the keyboard and mouse has quick response times and there has been no issues what so ever as far as signal loss, hesitations, dropped characters etc. The wireless keyboard has all the most commonly used basic keys, plus those you can program for your specific wants or needs. The mouse is a basic 3 button wireless mouse, that is comfortable to use and is compatible for either left or right handers. The mouse has a on/off switch to conserve power when not in use the keyboard remains constantly on at least as far as I can tell but its a power miser, we have yet to have to replace any batteries in over 2 months of daily use. This is a very good quality combo whether youre on a tight budget or not and only have basic computing needs. Highly recommend it to others.

My concern with this keyboard and mouse relate to the design and build. It operates fine. Installation went smoothly (just insert supplied batteries in the mouse and in the keyboard, then insert a small dongle in a USB port, and wait for software to be installed). The software installation encountered a Setup Error 1603 part way through and abended. However, the keyboard/mouse seem to function appropriately inspite ofthe error. My major gripe with the mouse is the scroll wheel is loose and had no detent feature. That means, while just resting my finger on the scroll wheel it can easily move. Perhaps Ill get use to this, but every other mouse Ive used has a light detent so you can feel little clicks as you move the wheel. That helps keep the wheel stationary. With this mouse, it is too easy to move the scroll wheel. In addition, this mouse is not as comfortable to hold for long periods of time as other mice Ive used. The keyboard seems fairly large and massive. It takes up more desk space that the prior keyboard (one from HP). It supports keyboard control of audio volume (+ and -) but it lacks a mute key. This is a disadvantage for me as Id use the mute frequently. Also, the function keys have very small labels (most of the key space is consumed by light-blue special functions that Im unlikely to use) and the function keys are not grouped in sections (like groups of 4 keys) which means the button labels must be studied to determine which key to tap. This slows down the operation of the typist. The keyboard is stable but higher than other keyboard. This causes my wrist to bed upwards as I type (forearms resting on the desk) which causes wrist strain. I felt my fingers getting tired more rapidly when typing with this keyboard.

It would be probably an ok keyboard and mouse for someone who doesnt work 8-14 hours on the computer. It served the purpose, I was looking for a solution of using one less USB outlet on my laptop, since these 2 uses the same USB cordless plug. Its great for that, but the keyboard is not what I was looking for. The keyboard is hard plastic by the wrist, NOT cushioned! It does not lay stable on the desk, it limps to the bottom left corner, and as I type it shakes and makes a noisy hitting sound between my desk and the plastic keyboard. The mouse doesnt always have a good wireless connection and it doesnt go where I point or click. Mouse to me was very uncomfortable for longer use. Again, I work on the computer and use the mouse a lot! My wrist cut circulation and my entire arm got numbed up to my shoulder only using it for 1 week. There is actually a pinched nerve in my neck since yesterday, no fun! (Previously I had a quality $100 mouse by Logitech, and I was used to it. But I needed more USB plugs.) I am returning the item (Microsoft wireless 2000) since I just went to Staples and my eyes got caught on this Ergonomic keyboard + mouse that was on sale. It is called Sculpt Ergonomic also by Microsoft. I bought it, didnt think twice. Oh boy what a difference! The mouse is like a ball, meaning that it is taller by the thumb. And since my hand is lifted by my thumb my wrist is unable to lay on the surface of my desk, what a relief! The keyboard is lifted by the wrist as well, and it is cushioned! so no more cutting circulation! Cool thing that the number keyboard that comes with this ergonomic keyboard is a separate 3rd piece so you can place the mouse closer to the keyboard (I think this would be beneficial for left handed ppl., to put it on the left hand side) And all these 3 pieces are connected wireless through this tiny USB plug. I like that the USB plug because its shorter than the one for Microsoft 2000 and it doesnt get in my way. I paid $99 for this ergonomic keyboard, after 30$ instant saving. I am returning the Desktop 2000 to Amazon. Thank you Amazon for making returns so easy and customer friendly! i can return for 1 month, print a free return label, and Amazon will schedule a UPS pick up for me. Awesome! Always save the original packaging that you received your order in, it makes it easier in case you need to return. PS. This ergonomic keyboard Im typing on... well, I hope I can get used to it. Im making a lot of typos. The buttons are smaller and shorter and more space between buttons than Im used to. Enter is very small. Peace out, Adrienn 33

My husband and I each got one of these mouse/keyboard sets back in 2012 to use as our keyboards at work. I think we paid $25 for them at the time, so the fact that theyre still going strong 3 years later, after 40+ hours of use per week, is a pretty good value for the price. The markings on my keyboard were all rubbed off, so I have upgraded to the 3000 model just yesterday. My biggest complaint with this item (and the upgraded model) is the size of the USB receiver. I use this on a laptop that I have to carry around to and from meetings at work, and the size of that thing sticking out is kind of annoying. Especially if I want to quickly throw my laptop into a bag. I dont like unplugging it because I know I will end up losing it. I understand its a small complaint, but its a big enough issue for me that I almost returned the 3000 model when I received it. I just feel like at this point in our technological advancement, there is no need for a USB receiver to stick out an inch. The one thing I had to get used to when I started using the mouse it that it is on the heavy side. I got used to it over time, but there was an adjustment period. Honestly for the value, you cannot beat this item, and I would definitely recommend. Unless, like me, the size of the USB receiver is important to you.

Im not in much of a mood for jokes, so lets get to it; this is a cheaply made product, and if you get more than a couple of months of constant use out of it, youre lucky. 1)For some reason, I got a Spanish version of the pictured product, which doesnt matter, really, except it made troubleshooting a chore due to everything(buttons, instructions on the back of the keyboard for syncing, etc)being in a message I cant read. A shipping mix-up, no doubt, but I thought it was worth noting nonetheless. 2)The keyboard & mouse arent exactly sturdy or durable in terms of construction. I guess thats a byproduct of the price-point. Really cheap plastic, all the way, and buttons that feel like theyll collapse under my fingertips any second with every keystroke. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for. 3)The wireless receiver failed. Its not getting interference or anything like that, its not my drivers or an update I missed or some software I dont have, the USB receiver just up and died, less than a third of a year from its purchase, and Ive used it all of maybe 20 hours, total(going by the playtime for the one game I bought to use it with). I cant replace the receiver without buying a new bundle, and Ill be damned if I give Microsoft any more of my money to end up boned again. I now have a dead USB receiver and two cheap doorstops that I cant use when I hook my laptop up to my TV. Nice. Microsofts tech support is as useless as this pile of crap I have sitting on my desk right now. Keep your money in your pocket, or be ready to invest a little more, just to preserve your own sanity. Id recommend buying the mouse separate from they keyboard, just in case things go bad; at least, that way, you have something that works at the end of the day.
