Ive been using Logitech trackballs for 20 years. I have been using the M570 since its first release and although I like its functionality, they only last for a year or so before the left click button fails. Logitech has known about this defect for many years and refuses to upgrade the switches. I have bought at least a dozen of these due to the left click failure. I heard the the MX Ergo was a major upgrade so I took the plunge. Ive been using it for the past couple of hours and its basic functionality is very close to the M570 with one huge exception: you cant adjust the scrolling resolution. In the Amazon comments section it scrolls at 6 lines for each tick of the scroll wheel. The M570 software allowed the scroll rate to be set as low as 1 line. On many websites the text entry for comments is in a narrow window and you cant scroll back to previous lines if the scrolling is set to 6 lines minimum. Logitech should add scroll rate adjustment to their Options software for this device. Why they would take away this capability in a supposedly upgraded product is inexplicable. If this device had this option, I would give it 5 stars; without it, I give it 1 star, a major fail.

Ive been using Logitech TrackMan Marble devices for ~20 years.... I own 3 of them, starting with a 1st gen button and then the later generation model that replaced the middle button with the scroll wheel. I have them both at home and at work. The TrackMan series have been incredibly durable and usable devices (basically, Ive never had a problem with them). I bought the new MX Ergo hoping to find it would be a good upgrade with better ergonomics..... Unfortunately Ive been disappointed since the moment I opened the box and placed it on my desk. Unlike the older designs the buttons dont align with your index and ring fingers and the scroll wheel doesnt line up with either your index or middle fingers. This makes things awkward because, while you can left/right click comfortably, you have to move a finger (index or middle) to operate the scroll wheel. Your ring finger doesnt have anything to do and the placement of the buttons wheel doesnt make it comfortable to rest where all 3 functions are accessible to 3 fingers. The thumb button is awkwardly placed and cant be reached without contorting your thumb off the trackball and/or moving your whole hand. Unless you have the unit in the "rotated" (angled up) position your pinky finger kind of flops around and falls off the unit and doesnt have a comfortable resting place. Pretty much an all around failure of poor ergonomics / usability over Logitech designs from 15-20 years ago, where all your fingers and your whole hand rested comfortably on the unit. Seems like a solid device that worked out of the box, just has terrible ergonomics.

I purchased this mouse to replace an older M570 which felt like its palm was raised too high toward the bottom. The MX ERGO feels excellent in the hand when flat, and even better when tilted. The ERGOs metal base has a rubber bottom and adds quite a bit of heft, which keeps it firmly in place. While the ball squeaks against the ceramic bearings, a tiny bit of oil resolves that issue, and that will happen over time anyway. The scroll wheel is a clicky type with detents as well as side scrolling and feels nice. The palm and the scroll wheel are rubberized, but not the buttons. The precision button seems a little too strong though as it feels like it cuts the DPI by around 90%. While the left and right mouse buttons feel nice and clicky, the back and forward buttons next to them feel very vague and cheap by comparison. While the mouse is capable of operating over either Bluetooth or its included unifying receiver, the USB connection is solely for charging and the mouse will not operate over the cabled connection, which is a bit of a disappointment.

Im giving this mouse 4 stars because I love it. Im a bit irritated by the advertised battery life - not sure if theyre lying through their teeth, or if I got a dud...but I dont even get a week out of the thing before it quits working (no warning, blaring alarms...just quits). HOWEVER...its not a huge deal because with a stationary mouse that still works as its charging, using it while "plugged in" isnt at all annoying. And if theyd said "4 days on a single charge", Id have still bought it. But to say "Battery holds power for up to 4 months on a full charge. One minute of charge gives up to a full day of use"...well thats just silly. Maybe itll hold a charge for 4 months if you charge it fully and then turn it off and store it in the refrigerator and NEVER use it... But back to the good. Because of the nature of my relationship with my biggest client, I am required to make use of a "company" laptop for certain things. But for my design work, I use my high-horsepower workstation. Keeping 2 keyboards and 2 mice has been a severe annoyance, and now with this mouse and the K850 keyboard (purchased separately), I can pair both devices to both computers and switch back and forth effortlessly. Even if everything else about this mouse sucked, Id still love it; fortunately it doesnt suck. Its a very nice mouse. I love the weight that others have complained about; I think the ball is just as smooth and quiet as previous 570s that Ive owned, the 20 degree tilt is excellent, the "slow" mo button is very handy for CAD sketching. All things considered, this is a great mouse.

The Logitech MX Ergo is a justifiable upgrade from the M570 and is the best trackball mouse (in my own opinion) on the market. I have one at my office, one at home and will not go back to a traditional mouse ever again! It takes some time to get used to, but eventually (after a few days) you move much faster and effortlessly on your screen. The MX Ergo has the trackball, two standard click buttons, scroll wheel and four other programable buttons. The software for the mouse can be downloaded on the Logitech website and from it, you are able to program the buttons for a plethora of shortcuts and macros. You can even get as detailed as to programing gestures and buttons for different aps. As an example, for excel, holding down one of the buttons and moving the track ball a certain direction allows me to copy, paste, run functions I use often and much more. You charge the mouse via a USB cable and Ive found that it can hold a charge for about 6 months, (this is with the mouse on at all times too). The device overall is a complete upgrade as far as materials and design. I like that you can change the resting position of it and also that it is heavier and sleeker looking as well. The price tag is steep, but if you plan on using it daily, I find it a justifiable purchase.

With mixed reviews of this new, improved, and twice as expensive Logitech wireless trackball, I had my reservations about spending $100 on a "new" product. Given Amazons excellent return policy, I figured Id give it a try. Im very happy to report that Im very happy with this new generation of Logitech wireless trackball. The new Logitech MX ERGO wireless trackball has several useful updates beyond "old green ball" (the M570). The unit feels more substantial with seemingly less lightweight plastic. The tilting option is more of a gimmick to me than anything. I set it clicked to the right and forgot about it. The controller software has been upgraded from the older, end-of-life SetPoint to the newer Logi Options, which as the name implies, gives lots of options for programming the various additional buttons on the MX ERGO. The scroll wheel feels confident, as do the low-profile buttons, and the Precision button above your thumb (controls speed of the trackball motion) is much more handy than I wouldve thought. All in all, I am very happy with the new Logitech MX ERGO wireless trackball. When my other M570s eventually die, I will have no problem replacing each one with the new, improved model.

First, the battery lasts about 2 days on a charge, as opposed to the 6 months I got on a single AAA battery on the previous thumb trackball mouse that costs about 1/3rd as much. It then takes several hours to charge, so its basically a wired mouse. The other version also had a nice spot inside the battery area for the USB adapter, which was great for travelling since it didnt stick out of the laptop or get damaged if left in. Also, the ball on this one requires a stick of some sort to remove the ball for cleaning, my pinky finger was all I needed for the cheaper version. This one also weighs about 3x as much. I tried and tried to like this one since its so much more expensive, to justify the excessive cost, but after a few months, it just refused to pair with the USB adapter. That was the last straw, I threw it out. Its inferior in just about every way to the cheaper Logitech thumb trackball mouse.

Bottom line (for people who dont expand): Great hardware, terrible software due to lack of mouse acceleration. Third party solution needed to fix this issue. (See below) The good: The mouse has a solid feel The 20 degree tilt does make a bigger difference than I thought it would. It really is more comfortable this way. It still works while charging The mouse wheel has good friction, allowing for more precise movement than the 570. It can also be tilted left and right to scroll horizontally. The bad: Whole-underside rubberized foot is less effective than the 570s multiple feet at keeping the mouse stationary. I was able to freely spin the mouse on my desk! Youll want to put this on a pad, and even then it wont be quite a stable. The trackball seems to move less freely than the 570 and also makes noise. The Ugly: This mouse requires the use of the Logitech Options software, which lacks options for Mouse Acceleration that the old SetPoint software had. I tried, I really tried, to live without it. However, one setting for mouse speed was too slow (requiring multiple movements just to get across the screen), and the next setting was too fast (making it impossible to target anything reliably). Mouse Acceleration helps the cursor move fast when you want it to, and slow when you dont. The "Precision Mode" button is not a substitute, and I could not even find any situation where I wanted it anyway. Windows has its own setting, called "Enhanced Pointer Precision", which does the same thing as Mouse Acceleration. Enabling it helped tremendously.....for a while. I found that it would occasionally disable itself. I could find no pattern to this. I was ready to give up and return the mouse for a refund simply because the software made it unusable. And then I found this on reddit: /r/Trackballs/comments/726n7d/logitech_ergo_has_no_acceleration_options/ In this reddit thread I found a link to a program which can be used to re-create the effect of mouse acceleration, along with some suggested settings. It requires a reboot after installing the driver, but after that I was able to easily tweak and create a near perfect replica of the behavior I had before. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to purchase this mouse. This driver saved the Ergo for me. Im including a screenshot of my settings. Hopefully this helps someone else with using this otherwise very nice mouse. I seriously wouldve returned this mouse otherwise.

Logitech has sunk to new lows. Now they have an MX Ergo, and a MX Ergo PLUS. Theyre they same mouse. One of them has a really cool rubber riser though that increases the tilt. I like that a lot. The MX Ergo PLUS is a cool product. Its a cheap rubber riser. The first mouse I ordered had one. The new mouse does NOT ship with one. I called Logitech and requested one, and they denied me. I wouldnt do business with a company that creates two similar products only one of which has a cheap mold of a rubber-plastic (that sells for the same price) and one without. The MX Ergo Plus isnt sold on Amazon, its exclusive to brick and mortar retailers. I wouldnt suggest purchasing the version without the rubber-riser.

I love this mouse and its a great successor to the m570. I like how smooth the movement is even right out of the box. I programmed all the buttons to my personal customization and I love the toggle button next to the ball to slow it down for work like Photoshop, etc. I recommend this to anyone who uses a mouse all day long and needs relief from wrist pain. The M570 was good for long use but this angled bottom gives it much move comfort. I do travel with this mouse every day so i did buy a case separately to protect it. I hope it holds as well as my other m570s. UPDATE: This mouse is still great except it is giving me terrible wrist pain. Its the best mouse I ever bought but I cant use it more than 2 days at a time without getting pain. Its so smooth and so precise but its a little too large for my medium sized hand. I tried everything and I feel disappointed to be getting pain from an ergonomic mouse. I lowing the stars from 5 stars to now 3 since this might work for others just not me
