Background: I bought this keyboard for my HTPC/Media server thats sitting in my living room so I could sit anywhere and control whats on my TV. Pros: - Heavy for its size. Wouldnt be surprised if there were weights in there but its hefty and is evenly distributed through the keyboard so it doesnt feel awkward in my hands. - Back-lighting is really premium, super even throughout the keyboard and the preset brightness settings are perfect for dark and light rooms. - Included usb charging cable and extension are really long so I can charge it from anywhere. - This is a big one: The left mouse click in the upper left hand corner of this keyboard. It puzzled me on what it actually was in the beginning but once I figured out that you could hold it and use the trackpad with your right thumb and left index finger for the mouse click it was a game changer. It doesnt really advertise this feature but its REALLY nice when its not laying on a table. Cons (depending on how you feel about these "issues"): -Its all plastic, for $100 brushed aluminum would make it feel more premium and add weight in a good way. I knew going into this that it was all plastic so I cant take a star away or anything but still if even then front panel was metal it would make a huge difference in perceived quality. -Fingerprints. Theyre everywhere so either get used to it or constantly clean it, it doesnt bother me but I know it bothers other people so I included it here. Other thoughts: Cant speak to battery life yet as I havent owned it for 10 days yet but if there are any issues I will update this review. Conclusion: If youre in the market for this kind of keyboard I absolutely wouldnt hesitate to purchase this one. Its solidly build and works well for all of my needs.

Received this only this morning (overnight by the way), love it right off the bat.....ONLY complaint is that the space bar makes noise whenever it is pushed....other than that, its a 5! The question I have is whether the space abr should be making a rattly noise whenever it is pushed???..NO other keys make a sound! UPDATE: 3-12-18, I began having some issues with this keyboard where it would just lose connection with the cursor (computer) and seemingly disappear from the screen. Other issues would be after dwelling while writing, it would miss the first 3 or 4 letters typed before restarting for me. The keyboard is otherwise very nice in every respect. Fortunately, when I finally had enough of the disconnect issue, I contacted Amazon who did not hesitate to offer me either a refund or a replacement despite being a little over 30 days old. When I asked about its general history they said it was a rare malfunction, and rereading reviews did not find that issue listed...so I took the replacement, got it in 2 days, its working fine so far...but as a note, the space bar is also a little noisy compared to my K800s! AMAZON remains the best outlet out there, great prices, shipping and of course amazing customer service that is easily contacted and chatted with at any time, any day! UPDATE 3/31/18 : This second one too became a disappointment so went back to the trusty K800 I still had, a far better keyboard. I designated the 830 to my laptop where I use it at the beach house with very little urgency and virtually zero expectations of literacy or accuracy...Im disappointed that Logitech would place a higher number on this keyboard....save your money, but something else!....I remain a faithful amazon customer because of their tireless efforts to satisfy their customers, but disappoint that they sell this item!

The Logitech K830 is about as premium as a home theater keyboard can get. This keyboard is a perfect fit for those full keyboard typist like myself who prefer a standard keyboard like the one you would find on a laptop pc. Your ten fingers will find the home keys easily and stay put. To be completely upfront. It is slightly smaller than a standard keyboard layout. From the left shift key to the right shift key, the keyboard measures 10-1/4" inches. A standard keyboard measures 11" inches. The loss of 3/4" of an inch is bearly noticeable. It has a full-sized ENTER (RETURN) key and both the left and right shift keys are a standard 1-3/4" wide keys. Tabs are also standard sized. The spacebar, however, is slightly smaller than normal, 3-1/2" side. I added two full-sized keyboards for comparison. The Keytronics bluetooth keyboard and a wired Dell Mechanical keyboard. Despite being 3/4" of an inch less wide, it does have a generous touchpad for mouse navigation. The pad measures 3-1/8" wide by 2-1/8" tall. The pad is as good as those found in a good quality laptop touchpad. Furthermore, this keyboard is backlit making it easy to use in a darkened living room without the need to switch on a lamp. Perfect for the 5.1/7.1 surround home theater. One other thing. The keyboard is capable of entering input to two devices at once. Since the keyboard can pair with any Bluetooth device and pair with Logitechs own Unifying micro USB dongle, you could add the dongle to your smart tv, and Bluetooth connects the keyboard with your FireTV, Android TV (eg: Nvidia Shield TV), Apple TV box or even a PC computer and then switch the active device using a special keyboard combination on the keyboard itself. Nice eh?

I acquired this unit to use with my Raspberry Pi 3 computer. Ive had the unit less than a day but Ive been pleased so far. I was initially confused that the bluetooth on the R-Pi failed to recognize that the keyboard even existed. For some reason, there is no direct driver for this available - Logitechs work-around for this is a small USB dongle (Logitech Unifying Receiver) that acts as a receiver. I expected to have to order one but checking the box a second time, found that they had actually included one with the kb - whew, evening saved. Once the dongle was plugged in the computer recognized it and responded immediately. While this does enable me to go cordless, which is nice, it does come at the cost of occupying one of the precious USB sockets on the R-Pi. I am hopeful that developers will resolve this issue with a proper driver. Ergonomically I found the trackpad to take a wee bit of getting used to. My thumb keeps expecting the mouse keys to be at the edge of the keyboard, in stead, they are about an inch higher. I dont think this is a problem with the design or keyboard, just a question of what one is used to. Im sure that with a bit of use the position will become a matter of habit. I love that this unit is rechargeable! Its a great shape and size for my needs and my large-ish hands do not have trouble finding the keys, even though Im accustomed to a somewhat larger layout. While I got this KB for my R-Pi, I can see us using this with our home entertainment system as well, the hunt and grope using the tv remote is tedious in the extreme. My only concern is if there will be any cross-talk between the one in the study using the Pi, and the one in the living room connecting to the Samsung TV & BDP. If it were possible to give this 4.5 stars I would probably dock that half point because of the bluetooth issue, but other than that, Im very happy to have this cordless keyboard.

This had the potential to be a great HTPC keyboard. Long battery life and just the right illumination. However, this product is fatally flawed. The USB charging port is poorly soldered to the product and can easily come off rendering the unit as useless as there is no battery backup option. I did see reviews from others that had the same problem but I thought if I was careful Id avoid the problem; no such luck as mine came off and I found that the delicate resoldering for this was beyond the skills of average electronics tinkerers such as myself. Logitech was no help either as I had just missed the warranty period. BTW, their customer service is slow in communications turnaround and leaves much to be desired. My recommendation is that given its price it is not worth the risk of this fatal failure.

I am a tech guy and I know my tech products. Ive used dozens of keyboards over the years for my Home Theater PC. I used IOGEARs GKM571R mini lighted keyboard for years. It has a good trackball but its keyboard is awful for typing. So I wanted a large keyboard for when Im doing more then just selecting videos. It had to be lighted and it had to have good navigation. This is by far the best fuller sized keyboard Ive used for HTPC use. The keys are well spaced and have great travel and feel. The touchpad is by far the best one Ive used in 20 years of computing. Ive had an integrated touchpad in my desktop keyboard since way back in 1997 and Ive always liked them IF they perform well. This one is very sensitive and responds to gestures perfectly. You just have to lightly glide across it and gently tap. No frustrating intermittent responses from the keyboard. I wish it had 3 finger gestures for back and forward paging but it only has 2 finger scrolling and pinch zooming. I does have a back key on the left side top row to use with your thumb as well as the standard back key right next to the touchpad. Ive been using it for over a month now and Ive completely abandoned my IOGEAR mini. This keyboard rocks! The rechargeable battery lasts a couple weeks of fairly heavy use. I now just charge it overnight about once a week so I dont get stuck. It will warn you when its getting low. There are 3 light settings off, low and high. The lighting is bright white and very easy to see in a dark room. My only cons to this keyboard are the function lock keys use a dark red type that is so difficult to see even in the daytime and I have excellent vision. Forget about seeing them in the dark, its not happening. The good news is they are only the F keys. The default is your media controls which are lighted so it really hasnt been a problem. But why Logitech would make this excellent keyboard and then choose dark red instead of a neon high contrast color baffles me. The other thing is this keyboard is a fingerprint magnet. It will look like it was passed around at a pizza party in no time. I clean it every few days because it looks dirtier then it is. But they are small knocks. My search for the best HTPC keyboard has finally ended!

Let me say first how much I looove this keyboard. It feels perfect in my hands. The keys are silent and feel smooth like milk when I type. The keyboard is built sturdy and doesnt feel cheap. I love that it is wireless and comes with a charging option. The backlight comes in dim mode (default) and bright mode if you tap the light key again. Everything is magical EXCEPT...... The darn backlight turns off! I wouldnt mind this as much if it turned off after 5 mins or so of use, but a few seconds after I stop typing, it shuts off. The reason that is highly annoying is because it is hard to see the keys which is why I got the darn thing in the first place. What is the purpose of having a lit keyboard when you cant see it to type? I have to always touch some random key for the light to come back on. You will love this keyboard if you are writing a story and typing nonstop. However, for the work I do, I have to do a block of typing, and then click with my mouse and its very jarring and harsh on the eyes when I go from seeing a lit keyboard to seeing no lights on it at all. It actually strains my eyes more. They should have given us the option to keep it on as most backlit keyboards have or at the very least let it sit 5 minutes instead of 5 seconds before turning the light off.

I ordered this keyboard on August 26, 2016 an it is now Jan 11, 2018 and three of the keys have stopped working. It was used as intended as a "Living-room" remote, so not a lot of typing. This is one of the more expensive keyboards in this sector and I would expect it to last more than a year and a half. It is also just out of its one year warranty. I did give it 2 stars as I liked the functionality while it worked. I will be moving on from Logitech as I have had a number of their products and feel they are overpriced for what you get.

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN DEC 8, 2018: I didnt like the previous keyboard I wa using (Logitech K-400) because it wasnt backlit and just felt "cheap" in my lap. "Your lap?," you ask. Yes. This is a keyboard I ue on my entertainment computer attached to my 65" Samsung TV. So, being able to see the keyboard in the dark is important. Also, the touchpad was not very responsive, although if you were persistent, you could navigate well enough. I thought Id spring for an upgrade. So, I ordered this Logitech K-830 and was very excited when I liberated it from its packaging. Its beautifully designed. The materials have a quality feel, and the weight of it gives you the sense of value. But, in a very short time, it soon became evident that there were a couple problems with it. First, let me tell you what I really like. As I said, the feel is nice. The look is clean. It charges through a mini-USB cable like youd plug into an Android or Bluetooth. Very convenient not to have to inventory and switch out batteries. (Of course, the charge doesnt last nearly as long as a couple double-A cells, but its still not a bad tradeoff.) Another thing I really like is the on-screen heads up when you hit the Caps-lock. It tells you when its bumped ON or OFF. Thats really nice. But, now heres the deal breaker. I presume that this first problem is peculiar to this specific keyboard, although I would not be surprised if the problem were lot-related. The "S" key does not work unles you consciously work to hit it harder. You may have noticed some missing "esses" in this review. I deliberately did not go back and put them in just so you can see the annoyance this causes. Perhaps in time with use it will break in and I wont notice this as a problem anymore. Indeed, it seems to be getting better even as I type this. Nevertheless, its a thing and its negative. The other thing that is just really the pits is that the scrolling software is really bad. You know what I mean. When you take two fingers and scroll a page up or down on the touch pad. When you stop and take away your fingers, almost every time, the page drops like gravity to the bottom or top of the page (depending on which direction you were going originally) all by itself. Ive gone into the software for this particular keyboard that I went out to the Logitech support pages to find and download and install. You can fiddle with the settings all you want and it doent really do anything to solve this problem. I did a search on this and there are other people on forums out there that have complained of the same thing with their K-830, too. Theres a workaround that Ive discovered, but it means that you have to train yourself (like having to tap the "S" harder) to do a special maneuver with your fingers when you use the touchpad. Heres the trick: Scroll down or up to where you want to go but then only remove ONE finger and wait for the jumpy screen to stop. Then remove the other finger. Its not how Id like to ue the device, but it works and stops my frustrations. Logitech is aware of the problem but their response is numb. It feels like they just dont care. "You bought it, sucker" is what I feel. Id say, youre taking a risk if you order this beautiful device. Sorry to say. UPDATE DEC 31, 2018: I have nothing about this keyboard to add, except for my profound disappointment in Logitech. They have designed a beautiful looking and feeling device made from quality materials, only to walk away from it with respect to its function. I really dont get it. This could have been THE top-dog winner in the remote, touchpad, backlit keyboard space. (And there really are not many choices in the full-sized space.) Instead, theyve abandoned their commitment to quality. I have to agree with another reviewer about the quickness of the backlighting to shut off. Theres no adjustment for this. Nor are there adjustments for touchpad sensitivity or inertial movement behavior. The "S" key on mine still malfunctions. Its just an awful keyboard to experience despite its quality "feel" in the hands. By its feel and looks, it would be FIVE stars all the way across. But, due to their continued fumble on this wireless backlit keyboard, I have dropped my review down from a 3-star to a 2-star rating. Shame on Logitech. Dont waste your money.

I wanted a wireless + illuminated keyboard for my pc/tv media server. The two options were Logitech K830 ($60) and Rii ($27). I bought both to compare. Appearance: Rii is lighter weight, but Logitech is more sturdy/sleek/pretty. Unfortunately, Logitech Logitech doesnt have space, for storing the USB dongle, whereas Rii does. Scrolling: I liked that the Rii has a scroll function on the right side of touchpad, and was about to return the Logitech for its lack of one because its pretty important when no mouse. But then read the manual, which explains that you use 2 fingers to scroll on the Logitech. So, equal here. Buttons: Logitech has dedicated mouse buttons (preferred), whereas theyre built into the Rii touchpad. Logitech also has dedicated volume buttons, whereas the Rii does volume with the function buttons. Illumination pt1: Big minus on Logitech is that the function keys are not illuminated! So finding the F11 key to go fullscreen when watching a video is a pain. However, I plan to resolve this by putting a sticker/something near frequently used function keys. All buttons on the Rii are illuminated. Illumination pt2: Colorwise, the Rii has 3 options of green/purple/red backlighting. Logitech only has one option. However, that option is white and I like white the most (no white on Rii). I was initially annoyed by Logitechs "light sensor", but the manual explains how to override that to select whichever brightness you want. Touchpad: After reading all the negative reviews about Riis touchpad, I expected it to be really bad, but its not that bad at all. If Rii where the only keyboard I had order, I would have found it completely acceptable. However, I then tested the Logitech... which is perfectly smooth. Final decision: Both keyboards get 4 stars from me. If I werent planning to use this keyboard very often, I would stick with the much less expensive Rii. Not having illuminated function keys on the Logitech is inconvenient given my usage. But after testing Logitechs much smoother touchpad, Im returning the Rii. The Rii touchpad is not terrible, but if theyd just improve that one feature, theyd have a better keyboard than Logitech for ~half the price.
