Its been 2 years and the letters are flaking off! Its decently quiet and its been a pleasure to use as a touch typer. Its survived some brutal college work and has been ticking along softly without any issues. Wish the amazon basics label would flake off like the letters.

Long story short. The ctrl key & the windows key should be switched imo... or it would be nice if I could re-assign the windows key to function as the ctrl key. Keyboard feels good & functions well... but the ctrl key on the left.... is under the left side of the longer shift key with the windows key on the right. My last keyboard had the ctrl key under the right side of the shift key... so now I find myself hitting the windows key way too often when I want to hit ctrl. Why in the world do modern keyboards put the windows key in a more primary position than the ctrl key? this makes no sense. I type around 45 wpm... & when Im flowing my thoughts to the keyboard, I would never need to add in using that windows key. IOW... The windows key isnt something you need to use while typing. Its something you use when you arent typing that brings up your windows menu which is just as easy to do with the mouse. So why that button is in a more primary spot than the ctrl key is a mystery to me. You have to stretch your hand farther to do cut, copy, paste (expecially paste... ctrl + V) reaching your pinky over the windows button to reach the very much more used ctrl key. if there was a way to re-assign that windows key into a ctrl key I would. its just as easy for me to mouse over to open my windows menus... I dont need a button... especially one thats in the way like that. /rant

I want to preface this by saying the 5 star rating is in comparison to other similar keyboards. This isnt a mechanical keyboard and it doesnt claim to be, so Im not comparing as such. I write for a living--some weeks I might pull 25,000 words depending on whats going on. After going through a number of cheap Logitech keyboards over the course of a couple years, I picked up a mechanical. Then, my mechanical was having some issues and I needed to replace it but it wasnt in the budget. I needed something cheap that would put up with regular use and figured I could toss in a bag if I was going somewhere and didnt want to use my laptop keyboard. Im glad I picked this one. It sees far more use than I ever intended and its held up like a champ. After a few months of regular use, the keys still have their lettering, theyre all still responsive and more importantly, Ive had zero problems with hand cramps or wrist pain. Unlike many basic budget keyboards, the key layout on this one is fairly untouched, while still making room for media controls. Theres not a ton of hotkeys, but the ones there are actually useful. I enjoy the feel of the keys. Theyre not mushy like a membrane keyboard but arent nearly as tactile as my favorite Cherry Blues. For the price, the typing experience is stellar. This isnt a quiet keyboard by any stretch, but its also a far cry from the clackety-clack of a mechanical. I can still pick up keystrokes when recording with my headset mic, but its a background noise and no intrusive on the audio side. One issue I could see if if youre not happy with the angle of the keyboard. Its not adjustable in any way, but fortunately for me, its a great fit for my normal typing angle. The grippy sections have no trouble keeping the keyboard firmly planted on my glasstop desk either.. Very happy with my purchase and will likely pick up a spare to have around just in case.

Amazon Basics is starting to be a brand that I like the more I use. I needed an inexpensive keyboard to attach to my laptop to improve my overall desk set up on a budget and the keyboard did just that and surprised me. Pros: Key travel is great. All are very responsive and feel great when typing. At this price youre not looking for a mechanical keyboard, but this is much more comfortable to type at high volumes than my laptop (Acer V5). Awesome dedicated buttons - Calculator on the top right, MyComputer button in the middle, music player button, and dedicated volume buttons are all included as single-press actions. I have all of these features on my laptop, but I have to press a function key and this really makes my life easier! F + J + 9 (D Pad) keys have a pretty solid bump for getting right to work without having to look at the keyboard. Number lock + Caps Lock do have green lights to indicate when theyre on. Backspace and shift keys seem to work well and Im not worried about how well theyll hold up over time. SHIFT and ENTER seem small but they work just fine without slowing down typing speed or accuracy. D PAD size is great number pad is great and playing around with the calculator didnt slow me down at all. Cord is pretty long so you shoudlnt have an issue keeping it connected to whatever you need. Cons: Upon further examination, the space bar seems and sounds a bit shaky. Im worried about how well itll hold up over time. Then again, Ive had other keyboards/laptops with similar issues. Being such a cheap laptop Im not expecting it to last forever I just wonder if thats going to be the first thing that goes. I wish it was a bit wider of a keyboard. It feels like a normal size I just feel ever so slightly cramped for a dedicated keyboard. The high gloss finish of the body shows dust and smudges, I wish it was more of a matte finish like the keys. The rubber "feet" are not very grippy I had to put a pad under my keyboard (check photos) to make sure it didnt slide around while typing (that may just be me typing too hard). The "feet" are a solid bar on the back so if you like to prop your keyboard up further (you shouldnt its bad for you), then thatll be a con as well. Overall: Great value. Exactly what I needed. Great price.

So far so good. I have only had problems a couple times with the period (.), but nothing major. It all works just fine. Yes, the keys are thin and all that stuff, but they are definitely as loud as an old and big-keyed HP keyboard. Nothing that bothers me really. The keys do have some sort of "cheap" feel, but I am not gonna lie to you guys...the truth is: this keyboard is cheap!! I paid $10.49!! Besides that, it is a good, solid construction. The angle is fine, nothing too crazy, just as good as a laptop. There is no way I can see this thing bending down at the middle since there is support all the way through on the back, its not a flimsy foot on each side. All the magic buttons work without me doing anything btw: they calculator works, the volume keys work, the function keys work just fine, the My Computer shortcut works perfectly, the music player shortcut does as well... Cant beat this keyboard!

For my Win 10 HP laptop (and hopefully most others) where you need or want a replacement keyboard: 1. This keyboard reproduces almost every normally used key on an HP laptop keyboard except the Airplane mode (WiFi) and the brighter/dimmer screen buttons, but those can be controlled by calling up window controls and dimmer during battery power can be pre-set to be automatic. 2. You can enter your computers password on a cold-boot with this USB keyboard. I unplugged mine and popped out the battery for a minute to make sure it really was a cold-boot from dead "off." 3. This keyboard should sit right on top of typical laptop keyboards (whose keys are depressed below the outside edges of the laptop) and behind the touchpad on most laptops and stay in place due to great friction from four long rubber feet: the keyboard dimensions are 18" wide, 5 1/2" deep, 7/8" high in the back. the cable comes out the bottom middle of the back and is 52 3/4" long including the USB plug.On my 17.3" laptop it sits behind the touchpad with at least an inch of room behind it where I could slide it back without blocking the bottom of the screen. It overhands the edges of my laptop by just under an inch on each side. 4. If you desire to use this keyboard directly on your lap, it is cool (temp.) and solid. Im considering making a stand for my laptop next to a chair where I can keep it stationary and using this keyboard and a cheap optical mouse in my lap. 5. The keys are quiet with a full keystroke feel. Theres no lag between typing and seeing the text appear on screen. I ordered this due to a faulty keyboard on a 17.3" HP laptop and am very pleased with it.

I purchased this keyboard about 4 months ago to replace a wireless, pricey keyboard I had already exchanged twice because it quit working. I was fine that it was a wired keyboard, because I dont have to worry about connection issues or batteries. It states its quiet, but its really not. However, I love the clickety sound of the keys! My husband just bought me a brand new HP computer for Christmas and the keyboard to it was already not working correctly (stopped typing, shift/control keys stopped working to select multiple items) within just a few hours, even with new batteries. So I hooked this keyboard up to the new computer and I have had no issues since. I love it! Its a basic, dependable keyboard at a bargain price!

First of all, I just assumed a keyboard with the word "basic" in its name would basic AF. And it is. But thats okay, because I dont need a fancy keyboard, especially to use while Im working from home. I just needed a keyboard that has the following features: - worked - inexpensive - had 10 key (my new work laptop and MacBook do not have 10 key, which I need to be more efficient at things) The only thing I dont like about this keyboard is that you cant adjust the height other than what it comes in, but theres a BIG bonus with this keyboard. It sounds so nice and cool when you type. Its the type of keyboard that makes you sound like you are doing really important work when really you arent getting sh*t done other than writing a heated response to a comment on a news article on Facebook. #LetsBeReal

Ive been searching for a wired keyboard with Chiclet style keys where the "F" keys line up with the number keys for a while. Thats the main reason I bought this keyboard. It does not incline as much as my previous keyboard, which is my only complaint. Very minor complaint as Im sure I will get used to it. I like that it has rubber stoppers on the bottom to keep your keyboard in place on a slick surface. It has a lot of great shortcut keys without having to use the "Fn" button to get to them like Ive seen on other keyboards. There are standard shortcuts like windows, file, and volume control (up, down, and mute) as well as short cuts to video and music. My favorite shortcut is the calculator shortcut which is in the corner of the number pad. Overall this is pretty much exactly what Ive been searching for at a very great price. Its as durable as any brand name keyboard that Ive used before.

Ive had this key board for a while now. This is the first Amazon Basics key board Ive bought and its really good. The button layout is very similar to a Apple macbook and has pretty much the same press feedback. The price is what got me the most. Last time I bought a cheap entry level keyboard it was for double the amount and I think slightly worse build quality. The looks of this keyboard it looks like its worth more then what it is, which is a nice plus. Currently I use this for the office work, web browsing and some PC gaming. If it doesnt hold up , It would show in the PC gaming. The only negative I have but is kind of common with a lot of keyboards is that when you place your finger on the keys and wiggle your finger a little the keys wiggle too. Some keyboards have a lot of it, some dont. Out of 1-10, 1 being super rigid and 10 being super mushy. I give this a 3.5. Overall Im happy with this purchase. Who knows, Amazon may make a gaming keyboard. Id probably would try that too. UPDATE 7/3/18 This keyboard has held up for the last few years that Ive owned it. I still like the compact slim style it has. The dedicated volume and calculator buttons have been good features that I used frequently. As I mentioned in my original post if Amazon came out with a gaming keyboard I would try it out and years later it has come true. So yes I just replaced this keyboard with the new gaming one and so far Im excited to see how well that one holds up. Initial thoughts so far for the gaming one has been a positive upgrade.
