I want a camera that fits in my shirt pocket. Sony does, but overall TOO small, and I have average size hands. All three main buttons - Power, Shutter and Movie are extremely small and seem barely there, not tactile enough for me, I find myself fumbling for the on button and shutter. Also, the HD movies record to AVCHD, a format that is still not very edit friendly, at least not in iMovie. Also Sony seems to have gone overboard with selections/menus. I mean, theres an Auto mode AND a "Super Auto Mode"! Do we really need that? I wonder how many photographers actually use all the effects, modes, micro variations of exposure control. I dont, but if I did, it takes a while to even FIND what you want, in the menu, sub-menu, sub-sub-menu. Overall its too many unnecessary bells and whistles. But I guess you can say that about all the major camera brands. Ill be sending mine back, and keep looking for the perfect pocket cam.

This little gem replaces an old Nikon small camera whose lens operation failed. Couldnt find any small cameras in Nikons lineup that I liked and that compared to what I had. This Sony camera is exactly what I wanted - it can be a simple point and shoot or it can give me photographic control when I want it for special pictures. Seems to be very well built.

Probably the best no-brainer pocket shooter Ive ever owned. I realize it has a myriad of scenic modes and manual control, but I usually just leave it in Intelligent or Superior mode and still get great results...as you can see in the attached pics from Big Sur. I may upgrade it to Mark2 with Wifi and NFC just to make life easier.

amazing camera - Im not going to go over the features since you know them. I will say that I went hiking through Europe and ONLY took this vs. my dslr. I am a semi-professional photographer (I do weddings and portraits, but its not my full time job) so I was very back and forth on whether to bring my Canon 5dii or 6d. No sweat, this rx100 handled things beautifully. I had only one instance where I wished for a wider angle (around 16mm on full frame) so I just took several photos to stitch together in post production. To be able to have this in my pocket at such a light weight compared to a DSLR is an awesome thing. Start up is not the fastest, but now Im nitpicking. Photo quality is incredible for such a small camera. This is now my go-to camera for weddings where Im a guest, and travel. Thats a big deal!

Pictures were good, not spectacular. Flash was OK, better than most Canon cameras which consistently over-expose or erratically fill flash Does not have Macro function and does poorly at close-up photos. Very little JPEG compression so files are quite large. After 2 years stopped working for no apparent reason and lens will not go back in or fully out.

My quibbles with this camera are small. The image quality is outstanding. It rivals, and sometimes even surpasses, that of my full frame Alpha 900. The small size and excellent video quality make it my go-to camera for hiking. Even though it doesnt take filters, I can still hold an ND filter in front of the lens for long exposure shots.

My first "expensive" camera. Ive owned this camera since it came out about 5 years now and have gotten some really good photos out of it. I believe I have around 6,000 shots with it. Honestly I feel that I have gotten my moneys worth out of it, and then some. I really enjoy the quality of the pictures produced. At night though or indoors things can get a little hairy, especially in these less than ideal conditions. I have been able to get some fantastic shots, that Ive also edited on Lightroom. I am now in the process of learning .raw files, but I will note that this camera is not very intuitive when shooting outside of the auto mode. It does not really take great photos using the other modes. I generally shoot in auto mode 95% of the time and 5% scene mode such as pet and landscape. I noticed that not many great photos have been uploaded to the reviews of this camera so I will add some of my favorites. Enjoy!

Over all my years dealing with point and shoot cameras, this has to be one of the best. color rendition is superb, even at close range. I opted for the first version instead of the newer, because, I didnt need many of the fancy features on the latest. Ive e had many Nikon and canons, but this one impresses me best because of the larger 1". Videos, with a light tripod are great. I am impressed. Purchase if you dont want to spend $1000.00 for their latest. Takes a bit to figure out their menu in comparison to Nikon and Canon. Pictures so far are vivid with detail and accurate colors.

I am trying to return this. It is not a simply point and shoot camera. If auto is selected, true colors are not captured. The worst part is the only way to view the images is to download Sonys program. This program does not download or work on any of my laptops, so why have a camera? I cant keep all the photos on the camera. Battery lasts for about 2 hours if left on. A cheaper, non-Sony camera is better. And I hate to admit that because Sony was my favorite for electronics.

What can one dislike about this little gem? When first introduced several years ago it was ballyhooed in the press as a remarkable leap forward in camera design. I bought one and in the two years I had it I took the best pictures ever. To me, a nit picker on quality, it left nothing to be desired. Easy to use and understand, and extremely reliable. I sold it to move “up” to a larger micro 4/3rds Panasonic, but what with lugging around the camera and extra lenses I eventually realized that weight, bulk, and too much automation really puts a hobble on my picture taking, making it something of a chore. So I now have a new RX100 and am pleased to find that the pure enjoyment of this super Sony is still part of the package, along with some new features.
