Takes great images and video, above and below water, but after only about 20 minutes of snorkeling (but several hours of "dry" use), the connector cover over the USB/HDMI ports popped open, destroying the camera. Ive owned several cameras over the years, taking them in and out of my pockets and backpacks and not once has one of their covers opened without me manually opening it. And yes, I ensured that both locks were engaged before entering the water. On the good side, the SD card survived.

I needed a small camera to take on a cruise and shoot some underwater photos and video. This was just what I was looking for. Certainly didnt want to lug around my 5DMKIV all around the Caribbean. Shooting underwater was fantastic. The controls were easy to manipulate underwater. Most of the photos were really good and the video was nice as well. Anyone who thinks that the image quality of any point and shoot is as good as a DSLR like the MKIV or MKIII is delusional, but then again I cant submerge a DSLR underwater like the TG-5. For vacation snap shots it fits the bill nicely.

There are 2 categories to review for this camera. Photo: The Photos are EXCELLENT, especially macros! If you are getting this camera for pictures, its 5 stars! Video: The video and audio quality are less than stellar. However, with that being said, its the best waterproof (non-fisheye) camera on the market so I use it to Supplement my non-waterproof G7X Mark II. I use it when I am worried about weather or getting wet (raining, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, etc). If you use it underwater, prepare to overlay music to your video because you cant hear much if at all. If you are using it on dry land you can hear the audio but it is not the best. The other issue with video is the focusing speed and video stabilization. The focusing speed is beyond slow. Whenever you move the camera, it takes a few seconds to focus. The video stabilization is non-existent. With regards to video, this should only be used for supplemental footage or situations where you dont want a non-waterproof camera to get damaged.

PROS..Great photos..clear an sharp in Most instances. It is compact. I have to do a lot of one handed shooting and the quick to grab and eade of sticking it in a pocket aspect of this camera is super CONS....terrible in situations where the light is coming from the side..the flat glass at the front throws a glare to the image... just be mindful of this. The controls are way to easy to accidently change. The round black style button gets rotated by the users thumb when grabbing the camera to get a shot and then holding the camera and pressing the top shutter button. Arrrg Worst of all...with other cameras when they hibernate, you wake them up by pressing the shutter release once to wake it up and then again to take the photo. ...not this camera. You have to press that little round on/off botton. ...wait for the unit to power on....then press the shutter release . By then the shot is gone. The unit should unhibernate with just the shutter button. .BTW just try all this with gloves! The battery life is way to short...buy xtra The camera WILL die on you just when that once in a lifetime shot is desired...just expect it.. it WILL happen. There is no metering mode. It meters the entire scene. There needs to be a spot, and a zone, and total area meter mode. A toggle at the lower shutter release side would be great for this...

I normally carry a full size camera and wanted something smaller, lighter and waterproof as a backup; this camera was perfect. It is a little bigger than point & shoots I have had in the past but still compact enough to travel well. I also bought the case and kept it clipped on my belt loop with 2 extra batteries. I used it for snorkeling and on a zip line in the rain; got great pictures both times. My trip was 11 days and I still have not had to change the battery (270 pictures and 1 short video - I still had my full size camera with me.) I have not had it long enough to discover any dislikes. My full size camera is a Sony and it was the Sony representative who recommended this camera.

WOW!! I bit the bullet and got a new underwater camera for our upcoming summer adventures. We are huge snorkelers and our last camera was reaching a point of low battery, low quality pics (i had to edit A LOT!) These are SOC - Straight out of camera - AMAZING For snorkeling fans, what i loved was the amount of detail for the perimeter and background as well as the subject. We also used it above water - when we climbed the falls. - Our guide took all those photos in Auto, they all turned out FABULOUS!! I am so happy i invested in this camera. Initially it was a smidgen heavier than my last one, and the buttons were different .. So i suggest playing with it during the day above water first - now it feels totally natural in my hand! The Olympus app and ability to upload the images was a HUGE hit for me! We travel to many places without a laptop or way to upload images for social media - the app takes care of that, I can upload my pics to my phone on the boat ride back to shore - SO COOL!!! Seriously, This camera ROCKS!!! Dont let price hold you back - its worth every penny!

I bought this based on the recommendation of a friend in one of the PSA Fine Art Study Groups. He posted a beautiful closeup shot of a flower and touted his new T-5 camera. Based on his recommendation, I purchased one solely for macro shots. The camera also has underwater capabilities but I havent used it for that. I did buy the extra Olympus light ring for the camera. The in-camera focus stacking feature is amazing and so are the capabilities provided by the microscope mode which provides me with the ability to capture images of small things that I had never been able to photograph before. The price is good and the camera is very durable. The only downside is that the image file size is a bit small so cropping isnt a good option without negatively impacting the resolution of the image. For the price, this camera cant be beat and it is truly state-of-the-art. I recommend it if you are interested in close-up photography but be sure an also buy the little LED light ring which is inexpensive but important for close-up photography.

This is a very good camera for what it is. I have taken this to the water many times already. Very easy to use, great picture and video quality, especially underwater. One thing to note, make sure to double check the locks on the doors before entering water, I didnt double check the doors at one of my outings and the usb/hdmi door came open, water got in while I was snorkeling, camera turned off and gave me a scare, but i returned to my kayak removed the battery and sd card and put them in seperate dry bags. Continued my day, went home and you could see the water in my screen and lens. I thought for sure it was done for, but I left the doors open, and put it on my desk for 2 days, it appeared dry and i popped battery and sd card back in, it fired right up and just as good as the day I got it. Hoping for no long term damage and that I got really lucky with this. I am certain it was locked as I double checked that morning, so it either failed somehow, or in my kayaking, or taking it in and out it became unlocked, not sure but be cautious and double check it every time you are going to be getting in the water, right as you enter, this is a new habbit I am forming and would suggest everybody do the same. That was my only problem so far, still a great camera for the price.

This camera was recommended as one of the best waterproof cameras around. I bought it for snorkeling, and it takes incredible pictures. I’ve also had great pictures of sunsets, up close flowers, and the camera is very easy to operate. The expedition guides on UnCruise Adventures use this camera (but the older model tg-4), and you can imagine the abuse their cameras get. I can’t say enough about this wonderful camera.

Bought this for a cruise vacation where we planned to do some shallow dives. It is an excellent camera! Works fantastic underwster and on land. Very feature rich and easy to use. There are so many options that it can take a bit to find them all. Being able to shoot in RAW + JPG is a must and this camera has it. Love it, love it, love it. It has taken quite a bit of abuse and has even gone down to 50 feet on several occasions.
