We got the camera for trip to the Bahamas - first time snorkeling. The underwater pictures came out way better than expected. Such an excellent purchase. We were good doobies, and we always soaked it for 10 min as per Nikons directions.

I searched hard for a waterproof, kid friendly camera that took decent photos. I didn’t want to spend hundreds since it was for my young (& still a bit irresponsible) kids. I also wanted one that DIDN’T use AA batteries (that I read quickly drain). I never heard of “refurbished” cameras before I came across this one. Figured i’d take a chance because the reviews seemed pretty good. Wow! What a camera. We’re on vacation and this camera has taken the most awesome underwater pictures! Love that I don’t have to worry about a camera getting ruined by water! There are also many fun features on this camera that I wasn’t even aware of until it arrived! (Neon effects, bubble effects, cartooning of photos, etc.). My kids (ages 6 & 7) are having a blast with it! Love it!! Amazing camera! Look forward to buying more refurbished items from here in future.

Unfortunately, this camera takes better photos above water than underwater. Clear, vibrant photos outside the boat; underwater, its a different story. If the water is absolutely clear and you are not moving at all, the photos are good. With any action in the water disturbing the clarity, the photos are awful. I can say it is the camera and not the circumstances because my daughter was using her Olympus Tough next to me for 6 days of snorkeling and her photos were far superior to the CoolPix. As far as user-friendly, there is a HUGE problem with the CoolPix that I cant believe they have not changed: when you go to press any of the buttons down the left side of the screen, it is very easy for another finger to accidentally press "record" which is on top of the camera. Many times I was recording without knowing (sounds silly, but it is easy to do). Really hate this camera.

Easy to use but doesnt have a lot of bells and whistles. A friend gave me a Nikon CoolPix S3500 around the same time because he knew I was looking for a camera. I use them both, but it is really nice knowing that I can take this one in the rain. I live in a place where it rains a lot. Will probably take this to JazzFest so I can take pictures without having to worry about my phone getting damaged. The camera is a little chunky but not as much as a film camera. Nice to have but doesnt get as much use as the S3500. The sound and picture quality of the video is pretty good. Battery life is great. This would be a good camera for kids too, seems sturdy enough to stand up to being dropped a time or two. Definitely not in league with SLR cameras, but it can go where they shouldnt. Nice to have in your aresnal.

For the price this is a great camera, but it does take a long time to focus on something. If you dont wait for it to focus the pictures are almost always ruined. This is not a highspeed camera at all. I havent tried it underwater, but I have seen pictures from others and I wouldnt be afraid to use it underwater. Best water application I can think of is if you were in a downpour, and either had no way to keep it dry or you were taking pictures out in the rain. Other cameras would definitely be toast. Update 05/17/2017 - We are buying a new camera. This camera is the absolute worst in low light situations. The videos that you can take are almost always ruined by the fact that the microphone picks up everything around the camera, including just handling the camera. Shaking the camera just a little shows up so badly in the videos they are unusable. Any time you take a picture in low light using any one of the auto settings shows up blurry in the pictures. When I say low light I want to emphasize that any indoor application that has lights inside is too low of light. The auto flash hardly ever goes off and is totally useless in its application.

I wish I had read more of the one-star reviews. I used this camera last week ONCE, on vacation, and after one underwater session, the shutter button will not work. I am going to try to return it, but Im afraid Amazon is going to try to force me to have it REPAIRED instead. This was a VERY expensive, virtually DISPOSABLE underwater camera. SO DISAPPOINTED, because the pictures it took were great. I have never had anything I purchased on Amazon.com perform this poorly.

I bought this camera for my trip to Aruba for snorkeling. The last time I just use a cheap disposable camera ya not that good at all. Well upon using this camera on my trip. Me and my wife were blown away for the great pictures this camera takes. I was very happily surprised just how long the battery lasted I took over 200 pictures the first day. Half way though the second day with almost another 100 pictures taken. I changed the battery out and Yes took Videos and a ton more pictures. Would I recommend this camera to anyone Yes it works prefect. Spend the money and buy this camera you wont be disappointed I know Im not love it

this camera is excellent. I was hesitant to order this online without seeing it in person but i was pressed for time and decided to take my chances. I was I was bringing this on a cruise (along with a traditional digital camera) primarily for its underwater features. the first time I submerged the camera i was very nervous but it worked perfectly and the picture quality was great! my only frustration with this camera is that if I left the camera on underwater setting when I turned it off during the day it would sometimes act up when I would turn it back off at night to take pictures on land. The camera flash would turn off and on by itself and then the camera would freeze..midway through the trip it was happening quite frequently which was frustrating- I would just shut the camera off when it froze and turn it back which did the trick but of course I missed a bunch of great pics due to the delay. I would recommend this camera but I also plan on bringing my regular camera on my upcoming trip again just in case and will strictly us this one for water shots.

Can I just say wow? This camera exceeding all my expectations. I used it for a snorkeling trip to Key West to take photos of the wildlife I saw underwater, it was amazing. Worth every penny, I cant wait to use it again. Originally, I was on the fence about getting this camera or a waterproof case for my phone, Im so glad I chose this camera. The battery life is AMAZING, I charged it once on my trip! The only "trick" I have figured out with it is to turn it off after taking a photo underwater, I would accidentally hit the capture and video buttons while swimming. The camera is showing wear, some scratches on the outside, but who cares?! Nothing has impacted the amazing photo quality. I cant recommend this camera enough! Great for videos too, unfortunately I cant upload due to taking so long.

Takes better pictures than I expected. I purchased this for a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. I knew I could rent a camera for $50+ but thought the price was worth a shot. I never had any of the problems with water getting behind the screen that other reviews said. This was used during a full 7 hour trip. I often forgot to turn it off...but the battery held up all day without issue. You cant beat the price point! So glad I purchased this camera
