Not had this camera very long (just a few weeks), so Ive not shot that many pics...yet. Like the Coolpix predecessor I had (for years), I plan to use this one to take thousands of work photos. Its updated from the previous camera with "black chrome" buttons instead of chrome ones....and all controls seem to be in the same places and within easy reach. The lens is better having wider angle and more telephoto capability. The focus/shoot capability is a little slow to suit my taste, but still ok. Takes a few secs to make things happen. NOT a pint and instantly shoot camera. The flash before was simply manual pull up operation, but this one is a button release pop-up. Same flash location...just an upgrade (in Nikons opinion...LOL). Ive got to get the flash set up though. The old one takes GREAT flash pics in totally dark areas! For some reason...it doesnt seem to flash automatically when in low light situations. (Im sure its a fault on my end, and not the camera. I dont have something set right.) But for the money it should be great like the other Coolpix I had (and actually, still do). Oh....dont forget to buy and install an SD card to store lots of pics. It doesnt come with one, just an internal memory that has low capacity.

Very sad to put one star. Hugely disappointed. Ive owned this camera just over one year and today on a critical day, it has quit. After going online to troubleshoot and try the usual fixes, it seems this is an ongoing problem with this product. Everything about this camera has been wonderful, it takes great photos, is easy to use, until today there werent enough ways to describe this (formerly) great camera. I recommended it to everyone I know. That it simply quit kaput zip zilch zero has taken me by surprise and after quite a bit of research, it seems there is a serious issue with Nikon regarding this product. Is it worth repairing for more than the camera cost? No. adding it to the waste stream is a travesty and if Nikon knew (and they MUST by now), why arent they offering to fix this? It clouds a formerly great reputation for cameras. I will never buy another Nikon product. If you buy this product, know its likely to fail.

This is a very good camera. The resolution and zoom are fantastic. I took about three hundred pictures today and they all came out great. I had the camera set on auto/scenes and it worked faultlessly, I did not correct any shots for lighting or settings, did crop a few but that’s not the cameras fault. Another plus is the memory card. I bought the recommended 32 g card. With the camera set on its highest resolution it will hold over 6300 pictures. Recording is very fast, never had to wait for it to catch up. The vendor delivered the camera a week before Amazon said it would arrive. There was a small strap to hold the lens cap to the neck strap that was not in the box. A quick email to the vendor using the provided email address and the replacement was in the mail the next business day. I highly recommend both the camera and the vendor. One last comment, I have a full size Nikon 35mm digital camera and many lenses for it. The L340 is at least its equal.

We purchased this camera for my mom who has Parkinson’s and sometimes experiences difficulty taking clear photos because of her tremors. After reading reviews we thought the vibration reduction would be great for her. I’ve always used Nikon products (owned four separate DSLRs) and have never experienced an issue. This camera is terrible. My phone takes better photos. The images are blurry, unfocused, and have ruined most of our holiday photos. This is regardless of who is taking the photo. It happens with or without flash and in every lighting condition. Even when used on a tripod the images were not focusing properly. We tried adjusting ISO, photo mode, etc. and the issues persist. Unfortunately we are beyond the return window so we are stuck with a $200 paperweight. I’m done with Nikon point and shoots.

Tried out this camera for the first time last night when I went to an outdoor beach boys concert and I was very very surprised with how well it did in such low lighting, and how clear, sharp looking, the pictures turned out. The pictures werent blurry at all. The high definition /high quality of the pictures turned out spectacular. I got this one because I didnt want a DSLR camera..but something close to it. Im so happy with this camera. Im so glad I ordered it. It wont disappoint! I highly recommend this camera.

This camera takes excellent photos, especially those at a far distance. We live on an island where the mainland is 3 miles away; and this camera allows me to take up-close photos of sailboats going by even when theyre over 2 miles away; close enough to read names of the boats sometimes painted on the bow.

Just received it a few days ago but, so far, so good. I tried it out by taking a few photos on different settings and I am SO happy to see this camera does not have the problem of "too much orange" in my photos. I am not a professional photographer - I use my camera mostly for close-up shots of the jewelry I make (so I can post online) and casual snapshots - this new camera is SO much better than my old one. I even tried making a video and I am happy with those results as well. It handles movement very nicely. If for some reason, things change over time, I will update this review, but so far, I am loving this camera.

Read most of 1 and 2 star reviews, and decided to buy this cam anyway. Most of the problems others had can be fixed by simply reading the owners manual, which you can download from Nikon. When zooming, the focus goes out, just simply push the manual button down halfway, and it will focus. Left one star out, only because when shooting video, focus is a little slow responding.. Other than that, fine first good camera for beginners. Good battery life Clear pictures Easy to navigate features Well made for 150$ Just point and shoot

Had this camera for 5 days now. Easy to use camera, put in batteries and sd card (not supplied) and started taking pictures. I take pictures for my job, not a professional just need to record what, went, where. This camera is great, for my use point and shoot. I bought 2 extra SD cards, case and batteries.

We are super disappointed with this camera, which we picked out after our L820 died. Note that the L820 isue was that the plastic parts in the battery compartment door wore out and broke off, which also looks like a potential problem with the L340. Our "test" is hummingbird shots from a distance of four or five feet; the L820 took beautiful shots but this one didnt focus, no matter what setting we tried. It also seemed like the "sports" setting, which took sequential photos on the L820 as long as you held down the shutter, only took single shots. The photos indoors, even on a porch with great light, also were blurry. It was necessary to use the flash with the L340 even in situations not required by the L820. The sunset photos would not pick up the rosy color of the sky on either the dusk/dawn or the sunset settings. On top of all this, each time we tried to take two photos in a row, we would get a message like "Please wait until the camera finishes recording" after the first shot, including a long delay before we could shoot the second photo. It did take good photos on the "flower" setting of photos as long as there was no movement. I would not recommend this for anything else. Im actually going to buy a refurbished l820 and hope for the best until Nikon improves their game.
