I normally shoot with an SLR--Canon 5D Mk IV or sometimes a 7D Mk II. Ive owned several small cameras aimed at pro photographers, like the G12, G16, G7X and G7X Mk II. All are great little point-and-shoots, but Ive found I never have a use for them. The images arent good enough to sell and Im not one for snapshots; theyre too noisy to use shooting bands in bars (my hobby) and dont have enough reach to get near the stage. The G7X Mk II would probably take a decent landscape shot but that means a tripod to keep the ISO down. . .and I just dont bother. But this camera, with its zoom capability, offers something different. The image quality isnt quite up to the other point-and-shoots but yknow, its not bad. It requires good light, with its f/6.9 aperture at full zoom, and I wish it could shoot raw. But given those limitations, it still allows me to shoot things I cant or wont shoot with an SLR. That claim of a "40X zoom" is a little duplicitous--theyre multiplying from the widest range and not from the 50mm we usually consider normal. Its really more like 20 times, from 24-960mm equivalent. However, thats like mounting a Sigma 150-600 on a 7D Mk II--and thats a serious commitment to the shoot. With the SX730 I can wander down to the beach and have a realistic chance of snapping a bird photo, or a surfer. Holding the camera steady at full zoom is the biggest challenge, but Im getting the hang of it and Im pleasantly surprised just how good the image stabilization is. I think theres another mode I could try that would improve that, too, but Ive hardly left P and Av. The macro capability is good; my closeup of the flower looked great in Lightroom but lost some detail when compressed--I think thats where the lack of raw data really hurts. The photo of my old film camera what slightly sharpened in Lightroom, along with color/contrast/clarity but I think you can see its pretty good--and I shot that at full zoom and 1/25th of a second! (It took a few tries, though.) Shooting in shade I was able to bring down the highlights and raise the shadows, so the bit depth must be pretty good. The musician shot. . .well, the camera had just arrived and I didnt have the focus down--I think it could do a sharper pic. The nice thing is, I shot the show with a 70-200 on my full-frame, which means I was able to get shots like this from 5 times the distance. Cant wait to try it in a big concert venue (where I probably couldnt bring an SLR anyway). Itll require good stage lighting, though; no question. Ive only had it a couple of days and used it on two shoots; photos are attached. I see other reviewers have had faulty copies--mine has been flawless so far. Battery life seems to be about 250 shots. Havent done much with the video yet. To summarize: this doesnt come close to a 5D4 image but its pretty close to the G7X Mk II in good lighting, and that zoom range allows shots the G7X just cant do.

Based on a few weeks usage, Im very impressed with the performance at full zoom. I shot a bald eagle photo and he was 2-300 away. When I cropped the image down, I discovered the camera had also captured a flying bee and you could see its wings.

I bought this as a travel camera, something better than relying on my phone, with the need for a super fast quickdraw for sudden photo opportunities--it delivered, spectacularly. The speed from off to ready to shoot was a couple of seconds, the flip back for selfie mode came in handy way more than I thought it would, and the video mode was really very good. Personally, I loved the bluetooth hookup to my phone. I would dump the photos to my phone every night on vacation and then just wi-fi them from the phone up to Google Photos. Backed up every night, I never worried about losing the camera. I used the 128gb sd card, and with 4500 photos and several videos it still isnt full. I did buy a spare battery, which came in handy for the one day I actually drained it. It was also nice for charging one while using the other. I almost never needed the digital zoom, as the optical on this is almost absurdly good. Does decently in low-light with no strobe, but a tripod would have helped. The strobe deploy is manual, so you can make sure to force it off when shooting in art galleries and the like. Buy a lens cleaner brush for it, as you dont want to risk damaging the lens by blowing on it or wiping it down. Overall, great camera--I look forward to using it on my next trip.

Took this on a tough 21 day vacation and it stood up to all the knocking around and in and out of the bag and some rainy and very cold weather. Pictures were sharp and I love the focus, both near and far.

Downsized from my DSLR because I was tired of hauling it around. Couldnt be happier with this camera. Takes great shots; love the selfie feature. Great to not just use my phone camera all summer!

Cant go wrong with Canon P&S cameras. Still have a couple from years back. Still work great. When 1st getting this camera I thought, 40x zoom? Seems a little extreme but when I started using it, it was pretty nice. With the optical image stablizer its fairly easy to hand hold at 40x. Doesnt hurt to use a support though. Camera has a lot of features not unlike any other P&S. Ive always stuck with Canon because their menus are close to the same, so if you have had a previous Canon then you would be at ease using this one. The tilt screen is a nice touch for shooting a selfy or shooting at low angles. I would recommend downloading the manual for further information regarding features. Exposures are very good. It shoots very close up without additional settings.

Great camera. Took it on a trip to Alaska and it did a superb job. Initially I got this as something I could fit in my pocket and take out for shots but it is too big for that. Im happy with it anyway though because it really takes fantastic pictures. With its small but not pocket-worthy size I suggest this case that I purchased with it. Megagear MG1174 Canon PowerShot SX730 HS Ever Ready Leather Camera Case and Strap, with Battery Access, Dark Brown The camera comes with tons of settings too to get pictures just right. The added Bluetooth and WiFi options are super great for taking full quality images from the camera straight to your phone. Battery life is great but Im one to always purchase another as you never know. There is no memory on-board without an SD card. Im attaching sample pictures: one with no zoom and the other all zoomed in with the optical and digital maxed out. They are of Flattop mountain in Anchorage, AK. The screen is also a major plus for taking selfies. Its great for people who dont like to hand your tech over to the common tourist to take a photo of you and your travel buddy. I will also attach a macro shot as well. Overall a fantastic camera.

Been using the PowerShot line of cameras for nearly 20 years now and everyone I get is better and better. If you want crazy optical zoom and excellent photos, this is the unit you need. Lots of easy to use menus for shooting options as usual and all the settings just work so well. The zoom power will blow your mind!!! The action shot, multi-photo shoot setting makes catching quick sports type action a breeze. Its not as compact as my previous PowerShots but........... they also didnt have 40x optical zoom either!
